Agathocles & De Blenders

Ha! The idea used for the cover is amazing. The The redrawn cover of the famous Sex Pistols album looks just great! And you’ll never think that behind such a cover there can be hidden something noisy and disgusting, haha! So… As far as I know, De Blenders – is one of the projects of the Belgian underground activist Brame (Bite Down, De Blenders, Prisoner 639, Vleesklak Record). In his noisy project he chills at full throttle paying tribute to the old noise collectives. There’re almost 15 dozens (what a madness, haha!) of short noisy songs. This noise is more like machinegun sound, haha! Raw, noisy, crazy and ear-damaging. So if you’re into old noiscecore, add De Blenders to your collection soon! I won’t introduce good old Agathocles to you – you already know them well. There are bands which we like for their new ideas, different sound etc. And there are also bands from which you don’t expect any experiments. AG is one of the latter kind of band – we know them for persistence and outstanding voluminosity. You’re not gonna hear anything new on this split, but it doesn’t mean that you should ignore this split. Listen to it and cheer up from Belgian masters’ songs. Btw the vinyl version of this split contains a few bonuses – live songs recorded just after the guys arrived from the Asian tour. Grade: 7.5 / 10 De Blenders AG: mincemania@hotmail.com

Gewoon Fucking Raggen ‎– Bruja

Rotterdam is a very beautiful and large city in Netherlands. But that nice look has an other side. Dark, crazy, noisy side, where all people are like one big family. Where loud and fast music have no end. I guess for simple human it`s pretty creepy but we love it and we call it underground. Today I want to talk about one not well known band from Netherlands' dungeon. Gewoon Fucking Raggen it's a great example of sick, sharp fastcore. This ugly punk monster consist of 3 crazy pieces (two men and one lovely girl). During listening I noticed many punk, hardcore and rock n roll pieces and all of them mix in something really cool. You will definitely feel speed and a high volume that will corrupt your mind and make your brain explode (like a shitty bomb, haha!:)). Bruja is a first full length in Gewoon Fucking Raggen history. It's full of Invigorating, demonic energy... These riffs, solos, blast beats, angry screams will make you feel alive. And few words at the end. Okay this release have no super cover but all of these 17 songs sounds like shots, and I believe that this album will find many fans.

Burning Cyborg - Entering Digital Infinity

Fuck! I didn't come across for a long time with such a strange noise!) I`m not a big fan of cybergrind stuff but Burning Cyborg hook me up with it`s madness. After I digged some information on the web I can directly say it is the only release of this band, and it is a pity... because songs on this EP just mince your brains into salad!)

Just have a look at this acid cover, look at those variegated colors... the same will be projected into your brain while listening to this vinyl! It's a hellish and dangerous mix of grindcore, cyborg music and harsh noise. Special irrationality for this chaos adds electronoise component... it really does sound violent!) It sounds pretty wild but interesting, I really didn't expect that. Rhythms are changing with a breakneck speed you just do not understand what is happening, ahaha! For me it was very interesting and surprising release and it`s a pity that this wax has not much of this noise...

Marginal - Chaos and Anarchy

There is a lot of bands with Marginal name on our planet. But today we will try to introduce to you Belgian marginal band :) The name of this album pretty typical like for the crust band. Lyrics full of hate for human affairs.... hmm I already heard those things many times but this theme still kicking me. About whole design and main art we can probably say that’s a classic one. All executed in the best traditions: black and whit colors, nuclear blast, war, death and desolation... And also we have here a cute character (which plays here the role of the reaper if I understand it right). Nice dark crimson color of this vinyl that conceals a big, massive, clumsy destructive acoustic power.

Heavy filled with middle-tempo rhythms, Chaos and Anarchy that became a second full length album for these Belgian pirates. I can’t say that Chaos and Anarchy it’s what I like for 100% but to listen to it at least once, it is worth. Guys trying to keep balance between crust and death metal... and they do it well, however it skips as openly crust and purely death songs. Also I need to admit the presence of two guitars, and it makes the sound very tight on this wax. I really enjoyed from the combination of harsh growl vocals and crust punk shots (it sounds very spiritedly). So in the end I can say that this album is not a bad even it's not follow with nuclear evil energy... Chaos and Anarchy probably cannot be compared to a hydraulic press, which slowly compresses the metal as balls to the wall.

Prisoner 639 / StevexJobs

The first thing that caught my attention in this release is a photo on the cover. Hell, I've seen a lot of things but such action I see for the first time. I do not know what kind of sick mind could come up with to harness the hippo in the wagon. Ahah, weird stuff))) On this split you will find a confluence of two strange powerful violence bands from Belgium and Argentina. Perhaps I'll start from the Prisoner 639. With using only bass and drums the music of these guys that sounds very hard and noisy. Their powerful violence quite primitive and very aggressive, some kind of cavemen music spiced with different noises. In their songs it feels great the low gutter bass that makes an excellent shake to the brain. Usually, it is a typical for such genre tempo changing, as well as a bit chaotic madness. There are some songs of normal length and very short one that more closely resemble to noise-core. In general, it is a very pleasant noisy-powerful violence.

If I'm not mistaken, StevexJobs - it is the first Argentine band that I got for reviews. In contrast to Belgians, these guys use a guitar although it really sounds quite dry...but it is full of mindless and enjoyable experiments such as some punk rock and hard rock moments (as in the song Rol), ahah) All tracks sounds cheerful and a little bit unusual and it is very amusing.

Discophobia / Slecht ‎(Vleesklak Records)

It's impossible to release only good stuff all the time, something messy and shitty can always happen. After listening to this material I understood that this split is one of the worst Vleesklak Records releases. I never heard these bands before so I didnt expect nothing speсial from them... but I still would like to ask one big question "why would someone release something like that on vinyl?"... Discophobia - if I understand correctly it`s one more project from belgian maniac who`s standing behind VRV band. Honestly I have tried to listen to that stuff but I havent found any interesting for myself. It sounds pretty boring. Just some incomprehensible mixture of black metal and goregrind with drum machine noise... Slecht - one more belgian band and for this time it`s just pure black metal. But it`s not interesting too. Mostly it`s the same boring thing as Discophobia and I didnt like them too. In my opinion this release does not merit the cost that was spent on it ... would be better to release it on some diy tape.

Art Of Burning Water / Nervous Mothers ‎

Receiving parcels from different labels remind me the old christmas times when I was opening gifts, and look what's inside those boxes. The same feeling was when I got a big box from belgian Vleesklak Records. And among the other releases on the botom of the box I found this strange split. Design of this wax is pretty primitive but I realy like that! Empty inner side, info list and simple black vinyl... thats all. I'll be honest both bands were unknown for me, I put this split on turntable without expecting anything. But I was totally wrong! And so... Nervous Mothers - those belgian guys plays very dark powerviolence. It's their last work and this material stands out with very dark atmosphere. As expected (for pv of course) among all instruments there is clearly distinguished bass guitar sound. Although that powerviolence genre is pretty fast one, guys make a point for the dark and thick atmosphere (and they succeeded). This darkness coupled with aggressive vocals and a sound set of all instrument completely blows my mind! Art Of Burning Water - english obscurantists. Those crazy guys mix in their music sludge, harcore and pour it all with brand dark atmosphere. Here is the only one track but it`s such a badass song! Low and heavy as an elephant, this sound just breaks the skull to the core. Wicked atmosphere just crawls out of the speakers and begins to strangle you. While listening I got the impression, that I was getting sucked into some resin swamp and the resin is so thick that squeezes me and I hear my bones crushing...

Days of Desolation / Travolta

I must say that this is a very nice split... All together 8 labels have united to make the world see this release, by the way, this 10" had been waiting in queue at the factory for a long period of time (but all those who was waiting for these release won't regret it anyway). The artwork is very cool, I see the hand of the master who's name is Jasper Swerts (Infested Art) just at the first look. By the way, it was a nice surprise for me that this talented guy currently plays in Days of Desolation. Maybe, we should end our fast check, but no, wait, I've forgotten, there is a lyric sheet for all people who love to read the lyrics (it would lessen the hunger of those who want to know about the deepness of lyrical sides of this music). Side A, band: Days of Desolation. Fuck yeah! The guys had kicked my ass just as the first riff have hit, hahaha! Just an amazing introduction which transforms into an aggressive massacre. Guys don't care too much about their arms (or legs as for the drummer), nor their throats. The material sounds very vivid and tasty. There is a lot of agressive parts which make you wonna have some bruises in the moshpit. But this crustgrind is also embellished by the melody, and trust me, this shit suits overall sound very well. Side B, band: Travolta. As far as I understand, this is a debut work of this band (so I won't be to strict with it). For its first baby they have recorded 10 songs (as I know it is one good belgium guy Brame (Vleekskak Rec) is the person who helped to record them). I think that if you look through the band's name you will simply recognise that this is the band close to a new wave of powerviolence. But there isn't so much pv here, guys mix it well with grindcore/fastcore and punk. Quite good recording and the sound too, the guys have made their best in order not to fuck shit up. The material is rabid, aggressive and full of energy. Good speed though the songs aren't very various, but they are cheerful enough. I won't describe all that casual pack of ingredients in such music in details (sorry), but I can say that I really enjoy the bass sound. ;)
Rating: Days of Desolation – 9/10 Travolta – 8/10

Famine - Razzin' (Here And Now!)

Well, we’ve finally made it to Leeds. This small town in England is where the English grind-violence movement centralized. The number of local bands there is simply amazing, and Famine is one of them. This release has been waiting for its time long enough. I know that the record sleeve was printed in another country, and, with the help of punk post, it was delivered back to labels. But it was well worth the wait... Funny, stoned art (I think that the artist was pretty stoned when he designed all this, hehehe) with acid colors/characters and, of course, the vinyl itself, it all looks fun and cool, there is not a single hint of seriousness).

Razzin' is their second release and guys have obviously put their hearts and souls into it. They’ve made a great cocktail by mixing together different genres. Here you can hear the aggression and the speed of grindcore, fastcore cheerfulness and the fun of hardcore punk! These 11 minutes of crazy sound will cheer you up for sure. On this LP, I particularly enjoy the variety of tempos and the guitar sound image. Different types of vocals are definitely a positive thing. Here you can hear "horn" screams like in powerviolence as well as regular screams that are typical for fastcore/grindcore. Hardcore parts are especially rocking. There’s definitely some sort of an edge in all this noise.

Coffin Birth / Total Fucking Destruction / Insomnia Isterica / Skruta (4-way split)

This intercontinental split has experienced many delays and other difficulties. But nevertheless with joint efforts of bunch of labels this finally happened and split was released. Badass white vinyl with weird art from Jon (fantastic artist from Russia) is great and beautiful (of course only if you're a fan of vomiting monsters with three heads:)) present for all grindcore fans.
Coffin Birth opens this split. This material is not new (these 3 songs were taken from Cult of the Technocrat tape) but it`s still very cool. I always liked their straight and honest grindcore. Of course in their music there is some side taste of death metal, but this just adds some sharpness in their sound. Assertive & hard, thier sound I can associate with old big dirty truck which runs on maximum speed. Second one, is to some extent legendary band. Total Fucking Destruction has a lot of years behind and they have many fans all over the Earth. As for me they have the lightest sound on this split (personally I was relaxed by their songs:)) even though there is some madness in 2nd song. And the first track reminds, with guitar solos and melodics, old good heavy metal, hehe) My good friends from Insomnia Isterica open side B. In their songs you can perfectly feel a school of good old punk. Their record is short but it keeps your spirit up. The sound is not buldozering and super heavy, but in its own way interesting & cool. Fast-and-dont-give-a-fuck thats how can I briefly describe it in few words) My countrymen Skruta close this split. Those guys have a great potential. Their material is diverse & curious. But the sound is slightly disappointing, that guitar sound is too dry sometimes... But guys are trying to compensate it with strong punch and they make it very good!
