And we are here again with another very British split. I really don't know why people from UK so love to create such violent music, that still a mystery for me. But, I won't lie - I really like that barbaric side of that country and its citizens. Split 7” Mangle / Fetus Christ will be topic of this day... These bands deserve to be in my “badass bands from the tea island” list. Both covers are unattractive but they hide some really dreadful violence inside… The beginners Mangle punch me right into the face with just a first and single tune. This shit is really harsh and full of aggressive energy. The structure of these songs is well known to me, slow/fast formula works flawlessly. Probably I can say same about everything else here, but that is not bad at all. Mangle managed to create something stupidly dangerous with just a basic and classical elements of powerviolence/grindcore. This is the noise that boiled my mind and this is the kind of music that I can listen all night long. The only one minus in this recording it it`s a total time… it`s too short to satisfy me, haha! Be honest Fetus Christ side got bad quality, the sound is messy and hollow… but the material itself is good. This hardcore/pv has more punky taste. Tupa-tupa drums and wild screams are hilarious. Unfortunately fast parts sound just like a noisecore, guitar sound is simply disappearing in blasting moments. But on the other hand it was fun to listen this short and loud blast. Rating: Mangle - 8.5/10 Fetus Christ - 7/10

Famine / Art Of Burning Water (Dead Heroes Records)

Recently I was flooded with a huge load of releases and it's took some time get this this small split - apologies to the label and bands! This split is presenting the extreme scene of UK, with its fast and slow sides… funny thing is, I tried to listen digital version of this split few times and every time I was bored to death. It sounds so blank and dry, must say I was unpleasantly surprised. BUT, the vinyl version sounds much better (thanks to the analog gods), it has life energy inside, so this small piece of black wax changed my mind about this release. But the sound is not the only important thing here, the cover is a necessary part too. I like this idea with band members photos, yes it looks stupid but on the other hand it`s cool. I bet that people were surprised when they saw these crazy punks making photos in a photo booth, haha! But let`s go back to the music. First band of this split is Famine from Leeds… This is not regular grindcore, these crazy homosapiens are mixing grindcore with hardcore and fastcore, the result is really great. Corkscrewing riffs stab your mind like these flying creatures in “The Birds” movie. Furious drumming is great too, there are almost no slow beats. This extreme mass also charged with different vocals which are making this music more various and interesting. The London-based trio Art Of Burning Water attacks us with 3 super heavy songs. This band is differs from Famine, their noise full of heavy hardcore and sludgecore. But it's still extreme as fuck. I really like how this hysterical vocal follow with slow/fast guitar riffs and massive tone. Rhythm section is here too, their joint work is huge and sound really impressive.
With a boiling energy pumping throughout the material, Art Of Burning Water offers a really strong and painful work that will crush your skull. Rating: 8/10 Famine Art Of Burning Water

ACxDC / Goolagoon (Dead Heroes rec)

Make America violent again! I guess thats how we can refer to this split. US hardcore/violence guys from ACxDC and Goolagoon put their forces together to finish off our minds. Good violence should have nice a face... So besides the extreme content, this release has very interesting and lovely look. The vinyl has pleasant splatter structure with warm colors. Inside of sleeve (which depict two covers) you will find a poster with both bands, stickers and much more. With all of this, my tactile needs were satisfied. Now I hope to satisfy my ears with a good and loud portion of noise. Antichrist Demoncore starts this mosh pit. This is the very last material that was recorded. I know that there still a hype about this band, but I still don't get why this squad is so popular, haha! Generally this material is good, not so badass as the first releases, but cool, there a lot of loud riffs and groovy moments. Can`t say that I find this songs remarkable, they aren't much different from their previous works, but all songs are played with high skill. When I spin their side on my turntable I notice that this material has lack in upper and lower frequencies… it spoils the listening impression a bit. Goolagoon is a young band that mix hardcore punk with powerviolence. Their material is nice, I didn't find anything special, but I had fun during the listening. But there is one huge and negative minus; The sound killed everything, the vinyl sounds even worse than the mp3 on bandcamp. It is very quiet without juicy and necessary frequencies. Bloody Phoenix / Lycanthrophy / Skunk / Disturbance Project (Dead Heroes rec)

It has been years since this album was released, I wanted this LP so much, but only this year I got a chance to get this beautiful beast, haha! Yeah I know, all the bands on this release are bloody good, I don’t need to go into detail about them… But the names were not the first thing that caught my eye. Look at this artwork, this image is absolutely killer! It was made by Szymon Siech (VBRRTRD.com) and this work perfectly fits with this noise and incredibly conveys the atmosphere of madness from all 4 bands. But, enough about the artwork, let's jump into our first band on the line - Bloody Phoenix! As far as I know this is the final recording from Bloody Phoenix and they are here to harm your ears with 5 brutal songs for the last time. The songs are overflowing with ferocity, each track feels like a strong punch. Savage screams, crazy blast beats and buzzing guitar sound, that’s what we want to hear from this band and we are given all of the above. I want to highlight the last song Bella Ciao. This really crazy song was made with the inspiration of weird Russian groove war songs, and honestly, it sounds very great. But there is one negative moment in this material. The sound is not loud enough, everything sounds a bit dumb. Czech Fastcore warriors Lycanthrophy are honored veterans of the European Noise scene. I’m glad that they are on this split. If you have heard this band once you will recognize them every time. They have their own crazy style and powerful speed. The vocals are especially spicy here, but the riffs are good too. Punky blasting is simply badass and the bass sound makes this mess decent. They recorded 9 songs for this split, but it`s very hard to notice pauses between songs, so this material sounds like one big and mad swarm of the piranhas. Skunk is responsible for the Crust mood on this LP. These Canadian fuckers know how to create really cheerful and groovy music. Simple and catchy riffs, clear structures and a ton of dirty power, that’s what Skunk sounds like. The caveman vocals are sick, and I can say the same about their guitar tone. Goofy drums are here too, together they are creating very cohesive noise, that sticks to you and makes start to sing the rhythms. This band has two members from Archagathus, I guess that is the main reason why these riffs sound very similar to Arch material. Spanish grinders from Disturbance Project are closing this rodeo. This band is very sharp and dangerous... Their Noise comes at you lighting fast, like a Bullet Train of fist-pumping perfection. All the songs are short (it`s a standard of Grindcore) and charged with huge load of energy. This combination of riffs, vocals, and blasting drumming could be compared with a harsh fight. While listening to this band you will imagine yourself inside the cage during an MMA-style match. The bottom line, however, is this is an old split but, it’s still one of the best split’s to come out over the last few year. Fissure / Shackles (Dead Heroes rec)

It's rare to see such lovely looking vinyl - a black base with white streaks/metastases... of course this is not a regular pressing, and I must admit that Dead Heroes has good taste. As for the bands and music, we have here two squads from different sides of the globe. Hardcore/pv boys Fissure are from the US and chaotic grinders Shackles are from Australia. Everything sounds familiar? Maybe, but let's put this 10” split on our turntable and check it one more time. I can call California's Fissure a good example of the modern hardcore/pv wave. Their sound is clear, has nice mastering and a drop of energy. The hardcore elements are prominent throughout the material. The band uses a terrific balance of whiplashing powerviolence alongside groovy hardcore rhythms and grind blasting here and there. That keeps this music interesting, even if the tracks are pretty much similar. There was a couple beatdowns in this material, but that didn't bother me (which is rare, haha!). Queensland town - Shackles. This bands stands out from the Australian grind scene, but not with material or speed; these guys have 2 drummers that are playing synchronously! It's freaking insane, haha! Two drum heroes definitely makes this music more decent. Besides chaotic structures, this noise has a crunchy guitar and crusty bass sound. It's interesting how simple riffs can be twisted into chaotic and blasting moments. I can't say that the hardcore vocals are unique, but it's good for this kind of music. At the end, these guys used some sort of industrial, I believe this is the best outro for this crazy split. Rating: Fissure - 7.5/10 Shackles - 8/10

Controlled Existence / Headless Death (Dead Heroes rec)

Be careful boys and girls, this split is very spicy. This is the place where Czech fastness meets with Australian primitivism. This release sounds like a weird kind of yin and yang, on one side we have ferocious evil and on the other side we have same evil but more angry and barbaric. As you already understand, this is a very strong release, with which you need to be more careful. So let's taste this piece of noise! 

Czech fellas from Controlled Existence recorded some very “unpleasant” (for someone of course) material. This noise is fast like a rocket and toxic like snake venom. Fast catchy riffs slowly poison your mind; thunderous drumming continuously nails you down. Wild screaming like an abrasive piece of sandpaper, it erases the eardrums and causes terrible pain. The last song on this 7” is a cover of Warsore, and I must say it sounds impressive. It's really a pity that this side is so damn short... 

Headless Death is a horde Proto-Neanderthal guys from Australia. Their noise is so savage and the riffs are so heavy, that it often sounds messy and raw, but that is the point. The drum work crashes with a terrific rage, playing into the song’s overall ferocity in tempo and tone. The same could be said about the vocals: it`s really dreadful and primitive (in a good way). Sometimes drums and vocals are too loud and they get cluttered among everything else, but I believe it is a necessary element of conception. And, for the last song the guys chose to cover Voorhees.

Gets Worse - Struggle (Dead Heroes rec)

At first I thought that this album, with lovely goat on the cover was new material from Gets Worse, but I was wrong. This LP is just a compilation of recent material. I want to assure you that is not a bad thing and I will tell you why...
“Struggle” has a specific concept, this thing looks really massive. The last four EP’s (White Horse, Yellow Belly, The Blues and Blacked Out) were gathered together on one LP. So you will be bombarded by 40 minutes of powerful material. But that's not all, the more you look at this image - the more you see. The artist combined all of the covers from these 4 EP’s, and I must say that he did it very skillfully. He saved the dark atmosphere and all main colors and elements. And of course there is a big and beautiful insert with all the lyrics, so if you were curious about Gets Worse`s lyrics you’re welcome to read them.

I want to cover all of the parts of this compilation and obviously I will start with the “White Horse” part. This noise takes up 25% of the full “album” and this shit can bite. All the songs on this side are a chug-heavy demonstration of modern extreme Hardcore power. Short, blasting and yelling songs can squeeze your tiny head, haha!
The second work is “Yellow Belly”. This work is pretty similar to “White Horse” but there are some exceptions. The overall sound is more Grinding; they have some taste of Grindcore and Powerviolence. But, the main mass of this music is based on breakdowns and slow/fast structures.
The Blues is my favorite part of this vinyl. Everything was made in the same style, but I found here more loud screams and fast blasting parts. It has this absolutely adorable song “Berk Jerker”. The sound of saxophone at the end of the song just drives me crazy, this wind instrument has spiced up the whole song. That was a crazy and magical idea and it worked!
The last material Blacked Out stands out with its sound. Guitar tone is heavier and deep (some moments remind me of the Swedish Grindcore sound), songs are running in slower tempos. There are a lot of breakdowns, Hardcore kids would be happy with these modern tricks, but I don't like them.

Boys and girls if you like extreme hardcore with some Grind/PV notes, then pick up this album, because it worth your attention.

Derbe Lebowski - S/T (Dead Heroes Records)

This band can`t be tagged as some classic or old school Grind or Powerviolence. These dudes love to experiment, that's why it's hard to set them in usual music category. So what is Derbe Lebowski and why are they seem unusual to me… Let me start from the history note. This weird name first appeared in Germany somewhere in 2011. Everything started pretty usual, some friends came together with a strong desire to play something heavy. 1 Year later they released their first work “Remove Your Mask”. Back then Derbe Lebowski sounded more like Powerviolence, but with time these guys mutated and changed into something more unique and crazier. The visual side of this album is extremely interesting. The artwork literally blew my mind and sucked me in. In my mind the images remind me of works by such artists as Hans Ruedi Giger and Zdzisław Beksiński. This magical creature, all these elements (especially connected human bodies), each touch of the pencil and brush, it causes goose bumps. I haven't seen such dark, psychedelic art in awhile, it's honestly gorgeous. This album is short, there are only 9 songs and all of them are set on one side of this obsidian black vinyl. Let's put the needle on the first track “Moloch”. This is the first song and it stands out with chaotic riffs and powerful clean sound. Honestly I`m not a fan of breakdowns, but here that trick sounds cool. I like the transformations in each song, slow heavy parts give way fast crusty hardcore shots, yes that is not “old school” but it still sounds good. Also this self titled lp is a nice mix of some more traditional powerviolence aspects with modern metalic hardcore + some small sludge/grindcore moments. I like the fact that the boys did not renounce themselves from Old good Punk. I've caught remains of that nasty spirit within this noise, and that was a nice surprise for me. PS: In case you want to know, Derbe Lebowski is dedicating all of their to social problems, themes which are around us. All the lyrics can be found in the insert inside this badass looking sleeve. Teething - We Will Regret This Someday

A year ago the Spanish noise machinery Teething released their first blasting full length album in the bands history of musical assaults). They put a lot of lifeblood and energy into this monster, and it shows in their tunes. Teething is a modern fusion of jumping style Hardcore and Grindcore, mixed in with fast and sharp groovy parts, heavy breakdowns and clean production. The coverart is made like a very bizarre collage of disturbing images from newspaper clippings, surrounding a dreadful main chacacter with beautiful eyes, and a nice attractive colgate smile, haha (Just kidding). The ungodly combination of bleak colors makes it look almost demonic, unsettling and fucking sick to be honest, I love it... I have both the vinyl and CD version of this, but especially the vinyl edition contains many wonderful tactile sensations. This LP is a cesspool of swirling fury, tangled in with kicking riffs and high velocity grooves, perfect for moshing around. But I cant say that I dig this album 100%, probably because there's not much of the punk spirit in this work. Guitar has a modern clean sound, and fits perfectly to Teethings style.. Same can be said about the bass. The slow swingy moments give a good slamming asskick (of course for those who love that kind of things). The track "Just kids" is a good example of this. But my favorites are the killer blasting attacks,"Life is peachy" and "Take me to a doctor"... Of course theres plenty of other great samples from movies (?), with special sound effects, it makes it into an even spicier slice. I kept the most important things for the end. “We Will Regret This Someday” has some good memorable songs, in my opinion it is very necessary, because who will care about blank music?

Yacøpsæ / Slight Slappers (Dead Heroes Records)

Oh guys, after all that "new wave" of powerviolence, hardcore etc, this split has become kind of like a good portion of cold beer after a hard working day for me. Both bands are well-known legends and don't need any introduction, they are loved even in the far off Nepal countrysides. But I need to know more about the photo of the cover art of this split. I suppose that the photo was taken somewhere in Africa but it reminded me a human zoo park in Belgium (yes in the 50's in "civilized Europe" there were savage people held from far off countries).

How interesting the beginning of the Germans side is... What a beautiful far east melody (in addition you can hear a pleasant sound of vinyl cracking). Here all the excess shit goes away and then without any warning these guys flood you with an unstoppable and furious fastcore stream. There is nothing new on the recording, no experiments, just good old Yacøpsæ, and as for me I like it very much. Concentrated speed, aggression, everything is traditional, and this is exactly what people wait to hear from this German powerhouse when they put the recording into the player.

Archives say that Slight Slappers have a solid and long history... There is information that these guys play powerviolence but honestly speaking it's hard to call them classical PV. All of you know very well how japanese bands differ from all others. The fury of these guys remind me of a kamikaze pilot which slays his enemies into dust by force. No matter, these guys are not very young but they can kick your ass hard enough! Ahaha! I don't know the origin of the term "Japcore" but this is exactly what Slight Slappers are playing.

P.S. This split is supplied with excellent and very cool printed zine Communal Grave. And this makes the release much more attractive for the owners. Rating: 8.5/10 Yacoepsae Slight Slapppers
