Abortion - All You Need Is Hate

When a band has been around for as long as Abortion has, there is not much to say that has not been said already. Slovakian grinders have had a very rich discography during their almost three decades of existence. "All You Need Is Hate" is their 7th full-length coming three years after Konvert and it's a good addition their discography. Cover art was made by Radek (Meat Spreader/Neuropathia), and I must say this angry psycho clown looks a bit weird (as for grindcore release) but interesting, it feels that this creature is real savage. The colors were chosen right too, combinations of black and yellow look tasty. This album has small tiny touch of the 90s, as the insert is made in old diy way. Xero copied A3 insert with photos, lyrics and everything else, maybe for someones it looks cheap, but personally I like it.

"All You Need Is Hate" is packed with raw emotion and a serious sense of urgency among lower classes of people to recognize their potential and take control of the state. Old guard is know how to mix classical grindcore with drop of mincecore. In contrast with previous album, "All You Need Is Hate" has more fire, it's not so boring like Konvert was, it has more fire but there is still some boring moments. All songs sounds similar to each other; almost all of them are mid speed, and that does not spice this album at all. Also, there is one more thing that I'm not happy about, it's the sound of the guitar. It's a bit dry on my taste. Of course there are alot of positive moments; for example I found hidden Sodom cover (go ahead and check Grand Hotel Alepo track). I'm grateful for this promo vinyl, because it sounds much better than the digital one. Of course I don't want to lie, these songs doesn't have hyperblasbeats, dissonant sound of guitar, or super sounds in general; this album is totally not for fans of new wave of grindcore. All in all, Abortion is just a bunch of old grind freaks, who love to make noises in their own way.

Cavernicular / Violent Frustration (Rødel Records)

Rødel Records is a very old and honored German label. This name helped to a lot famous bands with their first steps; Mr. Keule, the owner and chief, is still out there looking for units that aren't well known, and vinyl factories still receive orders from Rødel Records; that's why I'm trying to get a copy of every new record from this ancient temple. So the new one is a split LP between Italian grinders Cavernicular and German machine Violent Frustration. These squads have a different style and sound, and that makes this split even better and spicier. There is one more curious thing - both sides have different play speeds (33 and 45RPM). Lets go in speed order, the turntable will be set to 33RPM on the Violent Frustration side.

This is heavy, brutal, and absolutely murderous death grindcore with dual screaming and growling vocals. For the first few seconds, I thought, “Why is this music so slow?”; but then these guys punched me with a huge load of blasting (hehe), followed by strong riffs, and nice song structures with a good guitar tone that's not super low; and it sounds pretty tasty. I noticed some nice classic death metal elements here which is nice, and I would say it is about 70% grindcore and 30% death metal. This grindcore can crush you - it's really tremulous and I believe that in a live setting this machine sounds much more brutal.

On the flip side we have Cavernicular; fresh blood in the Italian grind underground. On a previous recording, these guys show a big love to hardcore… but these 10 songs are something different. They have switched to some tight, punchy, riff-first grindcore; that cave grind has surprised me. Musically, there's nothing on here you haven't heard before or better, and while that applies to the whole genre, this “new” Cavernicular is really enjoyable! The visual part is freaking amazing with red and black colors and anti-Trump art, but most of all I like the background; all of the skulls and bones look so gloomy. The whole concept is kick-ass, but I don't think that Trump is enemy number one, because this dude is only the top of the problem. Anyway, if you haven't heard politically oriented grindcore in a while, than this LP is a good way to fix that!

Social Chaos - Dia do óbito (Rødel Records)

At the end of this long day I just want a Grind album that I can enjoy that has enough of aggression and barbarity. Social Chaos will help me convince you that Grindcore will never die.
Originally “Dia do óbito” was released in 2014, on CD, but I guess that did not satisfy the fans, and in 2017 this monolith was reborn on beautiful black wax with a nice gatefold sleeve. Actually, I am a bit disappointed by the cover artwork. Because this full length deserves something much stronger, more aggressive and brutal. In my opinion this gothic art does not fit this album. Ah well, one cannot have everything.
Social Chaos undoubtedly plays around with the traditional aspects of old school Grind. But, these guy are using elements from other genres like Death Metal, Punk and Crust. The mixture of these things helps to keep this noise fresh, full of energy and juicy. The guitar spewing out primitive and brutal riffs with low buzzing sound, these tunes can crush bones! Also there is some cute small solos, which perfectly fit into this old noise. Death Metal growling and screams make the sound of this album more demonic, the vocal section is an integral part of “Dia do óbito”. The drumming sound is interesting too. Snare has a weird sound, it sounds like the drummer is playing on a human skull, hahah! Unfortunately the bass is lost somewhere under the guitars and blasts beat, that is not a catastrophe, because this album still sounds raw and badass.
This band has been active since 2001, during these years they have released a lot of good stuff. And I really hope to hear a new album from them soon, because I cant satisfy myself with only Dia do óbito, no matter how often I to listen it 😉

Cavernicular - Man's Place in Nature (Rødel Records)

The Italian grind scene sometimes reminds me of a mixed cocktail. Half of the bands are blanks, or even worse, while the other half are freaking amazing. A while ago, I wrote about mediocre bands from that region but now it's time for a good one.

Cavernicular is from Palermo city, and play a heavy style of "rock n roll". The band had a great start with a self titled debut ep, and now they`re back with new material. "Man's Place in Nature" is the first full length album from this band... Well, I was really excited about this noise, and have been waiting anxiously for it, well... needless to say, its been worth all the wait. This is a nice mix of crushing bass assaults, furious grinding guitars, plus very fast and skillfull drumming, and crazy yells. Maybe it doesnt seem to be very interesting from first impressions, BUT … The cover art is pretty standard stuff (in the grindcore genre)... the remains of some german (?) soldiers. The most interesting part is inside. I didnt really get this album completely, at first listen, and i thought to myself, okay this is just another grindcore album, just like any other,"nothing special going on here", but then i realized there were a lot of small but catchy stuff: great riffs (at some points it reminded me of strangely mutated thrashcore), groovy hardcore structures and of course different types of vocals. There are not many of those moments on this album, but still, they are to be found here. I love that every song is chained together, that makes this album even more attractive, appealing and surely more aggressive. The biggest part of Cavernicular have experience in some hardcore/fastcore/powerviolence bands. I'm sure thats the main reason why this album has so huge influences of these genres. Songs like "Asshole's Sermon", "Secret War" and "Demon Gang " features plenty of swingin, jumping hardcore energy and fun.

Boys and girls, if you dig this kind of noise, then youre gonna LOVE these 20 annoying songs!

Cavernicular - S/T (Rodel records)

Band - Cavernicular / Location - Italy / Release date - March 2017. Yes, yes, yes it`s another good debut release! This self titled EP was released last year in the end of the fall (in old and nice tape format) but only in the beginning of spring (2017) guys finally got a vinyl version (which was made by ancient german label Rodel rec). And now lets look closely on this black release... hm... a skull hm... nice picture, good artwork but it`s pretty usual cover for the grindcore bands, nothing realy spesial (but it still great) so lets check what we have inside... And we have heavy-fast 14 songs and more than 14 minutes of noise... First song, second one, then more... really good stuff. Despite the fact that is a new band and they are part of fresh wave of grind bands, I feel good punk spirit in these noises (and for a grindcore it's a main thing in my opinion). But also I feel here good balance between grindcore and powerviolence. From the first we have here smashing speed and blast beats from pv side we have a sound, yelling hardcore vocal and deep swing pieces which will make you run into mosh pit. So with this small EP Italians shows to us that they can make pretty strong and violent noises.

Nuclear Cult ‎– Internal Aggressor (Rødel Records)

Maybe someone will consider this cover boring and not interesting and will pass by this release, but it would be huge mistake. Nuclear Cult are (in their own way) the cult representatives of the german powerviolence/hardcore scene. Guys from Y and SM70 play in this band (I hope that this fact will make you want to get acquainted with the music of NC)! As I know this release (like many others) had some problems with postponed release date. And this vinyl was born only thanks to the efforts of two german labels Rødel Records ‎& Pain Of Mind, not sure about the amount of released samples, I got the colorful option (I guess it`s a limited one). It`s not the longest records (it's only about 7 minutes) but it`s very aggressive (that reminded me of the small but very hellish animals that live on Tasmania island, hehe). All starts with good dark and evil intro which (you probably understand already) develops into fast and destroying rhythms. Although these german gentlemen are not so young, they can kick ass of many young pw bands (and I`m not kidding). Live clot of dirty aggression, here is how you can describe these 10 songs. Fast, aggressive and short attacks, shorts moments for rest and then fast attack again! As it should be, those songs are short (but they are full of sincere anger and evil). So my friends, never judge releases by cover;)

Days of Desolation / Travolta

I must say that this is a very nice split... All together 8 labels have united to make the world see this release, by the way, this 10" had been waiting in queue at the factory for a long period of time (but all those who was waiting for these release won't regret it anyway). The artwork is very cool, I see the hand of the master who's name is Jasper Swerts (Infested Art) just at the first look. By the way, it was a nice surprise for me that this talented guy currently plays in Days of Desolation. Maybe, we should end our fast check, but no, wait, I've forgotten, there is a lyric sheet for all people who love to read the lyrics (it would lessen the hunger of those who want to know about the deepness of lyrical sides of this music). Side A, band: Days of Desolation. Fuck yeah! The guys had kicked my ass just as the first riff have hit, hahaha! Just an amazing introduction which transforms into an aggressive massacre. Guys don't care too much about their arms (or legs as for the drummer), nor their throats. The material sounds very vivid and tasty. There is a lot of agressive parts which make you wonna have some bruises in the moshpit. But this crustgrind is also embellished by the melody, and trust me, this shit suits overall sound very well. Side B, band: Travolta. As far as I understand, this is a debut work of this band (so I won't be to strict with it). For its first baby they have recorded 10 songs (as I know it is one good belgium guy Brame (Vleekskak Rec) is the person who helped to record them). I think that if you look through the band's name you will simply recognise that this is the band close to a new wave of powerviolence. But there isn't so much pv here, guys mix it well with grindcore/fastcore and punk. Quite good recording and the sound too, the guys have made their best in order not to fuck shit up. The material is rabid, aggressive and full of energy. Good speed though the songs aren't very various, but they are cheerful enough. I won't describe all that casual pack of ingredients in such music in details (sorry), but I can say that I really enjoy the bass sound. ;)
