Marxbros / Travølta
What could hide under artwork like this? Anarchopostpunkreggae? Funny grind? Nope - guys we have here a strong hardcore/violence 12” with two young but not stupid bands. Of course the cover is mostly a joke and it could push you away from this release, but I assure you, this noise is worth of your time. No more words, I'm putting this pitch black vinyl on my turntable and pressing the button!
Netherland guys with the strange name Marxbros are on side A; we'll start with them. After a few songs I realized that this noise reminds me of real hardcore, with all simplicity, anger, and fun. There is no hip-hop stuff like in famous hardcore bands and I really appreciate it. It's rare to find bands in this genre which are true to the old school. Punky drums, wild yelling, simple guitar tone, good and catchy riffs are the ingredients of real and honest noise. Dutch language especially good for music like this, it makes everything spicier. Can't say that these guys took my heart, but I honestly enjoyed their material.
Last, but not least, is Travølta. I know these cock-sparrows from Heultje city for a long time. Behind the goofy name is a lot of hidden potential. Travølta starts with clanging bass intro that turns into a violence massacre. Each song is full of punk energy and violence. Every component of this recording session has a pretty modern sound (on my taste of course), but together drums, guitar, bass and vocal create a twisting mess that sounds pretty nice. This is not the heaviest music that you could hear, but I`m sure that powerviolence/fastcore fans will be satisfied.

Cliteater - Clit ´em All + Eat Clit Or Die (Nailthecunt Records)
Reissues are not always a bad
thing (as many nerds think...), and I will prove it to you with this black and
shiny digi-pack. I'm holding in my hands a massive release with two CD's
inside. This edition has a simple look, but that's only the first impression.
Open it, and you will find art for both albums, a small poster, and a fresh
band photo and ton of information; Nailthecunt Records managed to make a very
strong and beautiful debut release!
The first part of this double pie is an
album from the beginning of Cliteater's history - “Clit ´em All”. I feel like
these guys have tried to make everything by the old deathgrind traditions -
this material is heavy and straight, and all songs have similar structures.
Here you will hear a lot of death metal riffs and grind blasting drumming, with
bulldozer-ing bass creating that extra heaviness. Vocals are much the same,
sounding foreboding and like a hungry, gurgling stomach, haha! Samples from old
movies are here too, and they help to keep balance in this music mess of blood,
rot, and squished remains.
It's not the best in Cliteater`s discography, but
it's definitely a nice album.
When I listened
to “Eat Clit Or Die”, I felt that these guys have grow a lot. This LP is
riffy, catchy, and the sound is deeper and cleaner. With this album, you will
be served with groovy-as-hell death metal/grindcore. I find this album more
grind oriented than “Clit ´em All”, and it's simply because of swing tempos,
primitive caveman dancing tunes, a few crust punk moments, and evil roaring.
But, there is a lot of cool slow and fast buzzing death metal tricks - just
check the song “Crash Test Fetus”. Art for both albums was drawn by Luisma
(Haemorrhage) - I bet that you've recognized his style, haha!

Gewoon Fucking Raggen / Travolta (Loner Cult Records)
Put a few musicians into a room together, and it’s almost guaranteed
they’re going to start a jam session. Then throw 2 bands into that same room, and
its pretty much a done deal, theyll be making a split!)) A split which will
show you the furious power of fast hardcore. Yes, boys and girls I'm talking
about the teamwork of Gewoon Fucking Raggen (Netherlands) and Travolta
(Belgium). This split definitely contains noise that is so fast the A-side
became the B-side, and thats so wicked! I dont know whos idea it was to put the
main image in so many negative characters, but it works. This artwork looks
both silly, and truly crazy.Okay... enough empty words for now... Lets dive
into the music...
First band on the menu, is Gewoon Fucking Raggen (which translates to "Just
fucking shred" btw). I`ve been super excited to hear new tunes from them,
because I know how fast and mad they are. It starts out with a funny intro, that
makes you realize- “Hardcore Will Never Die!”, haha! But then slams a very
quick and sharp song right in your face. This is super intensive
fastcore, totally insane. Sweet and simple riffs, good enerizing speed, and a
ton of noisy fun. The best parts here is definetely the "yelling"
style of vocals, and fast drum beats. My favorite song is ”Jazz”… Fuck... this
track drives me crazy. Honestly, it awakened my primal instincts, and i was
ready to jump into the nearest moshpit hahaha!
Up next is Travolta. This is a young band, but these guys have a lot of
experience. With this record they showed what they are capable of. In
comparison to their first split, this one is much juicier. Here youll find a
lot of stupid cool intros about John Travolta, space intruders and other weird
stuff. This brings out some picant and fun notes in whole picture. They act
with a good mix of powerviolence and fast punk. Ear drilling with good fast blasting
drums and brain melting guitar riffs. This work show they have grown, and
developed. I really appreciate that. Let`s see what noise Travolta will bring
us in the future.
