Psychoneurosis - The Fall Of Humanity (Selfmadegod rec)

Only a lazy fan of extreme music hasn't heard that Psychoneurosis is back. After doing a successful split with AG and a bunch of cool gigs, these guys finally recorded a new album - this news cheers me up. Then, Selfmadegod Rec posted a preview song “Brexshit”... fuck...that was a brain-crashing song. So I started to wait for the whole album, and a few month later “The Fall Of Humanity” was in my hands… I guess Psychoneurosis tried to prepare/warn listeners about unexpected fast and ugly grind fights, that why they started with and elegant, atmospheric, and slow intro. I must say, that was a great idea because “Modern Technology” (the next song) is damn harsh. Death-grind riffs collide with bloody good blast/polka beats to create some of the most efficient grindcore warfare of this shitty year. I love this brand, heavy sound with a bit metal taste, that sound is like an indicator… When I hearing it I know that I`m listening a band from Poland, hehe! Anyway this balls to the wall material has a ton of great songs with cool guitar sound, blasting drumming, and savage vocals. Psychoneurosis managed to create a really badass grind product. Everything above is hidden in a well produced CD with badass cover art. Just look at this image, this crossover of “From Enslavement To Obliteration” looks gorgeous! Maybe this is a joke image, but fuck, the artist did a massive work with all elements, colors and other stuff. I freaking love this art and noise too! All Over The Face - Like a Bull

This was one of those unexpected promos; they are rare in my practice. Guys from Switzerland sent me a big parcel with their debut album “Like a Bull”. I was surprised when I opened it, there was both the LP and CD version of this full length… I must admit not every day you receive 2 formats of one release. So as I said All Over The Face are from Switzerland, they came together 5 years ago, not sure if I can still call them an active band. During their years of existence they played a bunch of gigs and released 1 album. In my opinion this band is a bit weird, because it’s mixing everything together; Punk, Metal, Crust, Grind and Hardcore. Like a Bull has a rather unattractive red cover, but it has huge portion of hate inside. All 9 songs are about our rotten world and our ugly behavior. This album is intense and fast, with quality sound and mixing. But, I found it very strange and it took me some time to realize why it's so hard to listen to this album through to the end. These guys are using many riffs, structures and tunes from different genres and together it sounds cluttered. I don't want to be an asshole, but this album can be compared to Frankenstein’s Monster or to a broken puzzle. Bass, drums, guitar, every instrument sounds good, but the way they`re combined is weird; the whole 20 minute album simply didn't catch my attention. Rating: 6/10 All Ove rThe Face fb Official site

Brutal Sphincter - Analhu Akbar

So, what kind of music does a band with such a name play? Hard rock? Pornogrind? Cyberturboscat grind? Well you're not even close. These Belgian bastards make fun of politic and social topics. This band is active since 2012, they have 2 albums, both of them were released at famous Rotten Roll Rex. Analhu Akbar was vomited from the factory two month ago, so it's still warm. I like this art, it looks neutral to me. I mean there are no vaginas, dicks or other bullshit. It's just dirty terrorists and innocent victims, everything dedicated strictly to the album theme.  

Well at first, when I heard the beginning of the opening song I was thought “wtf is that Slipknot playing or what?”. First riffs sounds like some sort of low new-metal. But then guys engaged a nice portion of groovy & heavy noise and that made everything clear. While there certainly are touches of classic czhech school (NCC, Jig-Ai etc). Flurries of blastbeats (with a bit annoying trigger sound), minor-key riffs distorted into chainsaw grinding, everything above is covered with groovy and swing structures. Brutal Sphincter use few kinds of vocals in this album. The main is pitch shifted high vocal than guttural and pig squeal, it brings in a bit of variety in this dirty and nasty mess. I feel that I forgot about something, oh yes! The sound is monstrous and massive, sometime it reminds me CBT style.
If you haven’t heard this and you want dynamic groovy grind, get this album.

Haemorrhage - Haematology II - The Singles Collection (Power It Up)

In the world of grind, it’s practically impossible to not know the name Haemorrhage. This nasty pathological act has taken the hearts and minds from the biggest part of the underground community. It's taken more than 10 years to release second part of Haematology, but believe me, it was worth the wait. Traditionally, I want to consider the design of this release. So, German Power It Up released 2 version of this compilation; the first is a double gatefold vinyl edition, and the second is a CD version. I was lucky to get a 2LP version, and you know what? It's fucking gorgeous! All of the polygraphy is high in quality, and everything looks just amazing. Luisma drew badass art for this one... The Mad Pathologist is back, haha! Inside the sleeve you will find much interesting information. Each of the releases within this edition has a small story about this or that split; it was really interesting to read all of them. Everything here is soaked with the creepy atmosphere of a morgue.

30 songs were gathered together - you will hear noise from split with Impaled, Embalming Theatre, Dead Infection, Dead, Disgorge, Gruesome Stuff Relish, Amputation Protocol EP, and a few songs from the split with Gutalax. Expect of more than a 1 hour bonanza with churning grooves and bloody tunes.

It's hard to find new words for this band, we all know what the guys from the Haemorrhage are capable of. Their style is very recognizable and remarkable. Their brand of gore has a moldy taste and an old school punk spirit. I believe that this formula helps to keep this noise in a fresh and cheerful condition. The catchy guitar sounds like a real butcher buzzsaw (check songs from Gruesome Stuff Relish). In most songs, you will only be able to feel the bass, but in songs 7-9 (split with Dead Infection) it's on the first line and it has a monstrous sound. The blasting material from the split with German band Dead is freaking furious, and one of the fastest materials that I have heard from Haemorrhage. The vocal is the most stable thing here, it's powerful and ugly in all songs. In all meanings Haematology II is rad release and if you really love gore, you should have this putrid piece in your collection!

Favorite songs: "In the Name of Sanity", "Canarios Y Jilgueros", “Ausgebombt”.

Wormrot - Voices (Earache)

Good old Wormrot - this three piece from Singapore seems to be a household name these days (I guess as much as a grindcore band can be...), and certainly for good reason. They've got a solid history of putting out great material, and Voices is no exception.

Let's start with the physical album itself. Unfortunately, mine suffered a little damage in the mail, but even with that, holy shit is this a great looking album. If you thought the main artwork on the front of it was sick – just wait until you open it up. The gate-fold reveals the same style of artwork with a persons jaw and tongue being ripped out and thrown across the fold. Brutal. A few things are inside of the jacket – the copy I ordered came with a signed photo of the band (cool!), and a fold out poster with the lyrics on the back. When it's unfolded, the poster is the art from the front cover, with a whole part you didn't get to see before; more jaws being relocated. Still brutal.

On to the music itself. It kicks off with “Blockhead Fuck Off”, with a quick riff of the guitar coming from the right speaker, kind of sounding like it's coming out of a radio, and a quick tap on the hi-hat brings the track to life. If you aren't already violently thrashing your head by the time Arif comes in with a primal scream...just wait until the first blast. Whatever they mean by Blockhead doesn't matter – this is a ripper of an opener and Blockheads CAN fuck right off. “Hollow Roots” follows “Blockhead”, and boy is it different. These aren't the kind of tones I'm used to in grind...but make no mistake – by the time you've even acknowledged it's different, you're right back into a neck-breaking blast beat. This goes on for a few more tracks until you get to my personal favorite track, “Oblivious Mess”. Here again, we start off with some different tones, and when it kicks in the song almost feels like a black metal track. But give it a sec – nope, definitely grindcore.

Wormrot keeps up this pacing through the rest of the album. They do a lot of experimental stuff, there are definitely a lot of sounds on this record that are not conventionally grindcore, and push into a different tonality than most of us are used to. It's a welcome change of pace from the standard blast-dbeat-blast-dbeat pattern of a lot of things these days tend to follow, and they've inspired me to move past the 4^th fret myself ;). Some other highlights on the album are “Fallen Into Disuse”, “Fake Moral Machine”, and “Defaced”.

This is definitely something different, and one worthy of being on every grindfreaks shelf.

Jesus Ain't In Poland ‎- No Man's Land (Grindpromotion Records)

I won't lie, news about the new album of Italian Grinders Jesus Ain't In Poland has surprised me a lot. Because I was sure that they were in deep and cold hiatus. But our friends were silently preparing a huge portion of noisey material. This hammering album contains 12 songs and more than 1 hour of noise! On this album, the guys tried something new, this massive album is not just pure Grindcore… No Man's Land consists of Grindcore, some Black metal tinges and an atmosphere of doom metal. Maybe some nerdy Grindheads will say “this sucks because it's not Grindcore, there a lot of metal stuff in here too”, but fuck them. Because this album definitely works and it's huge in many ways. The first time I heard No Man's Land I was pinned down to the wall. By the time it was over my mind had melted. This work surprised me with its technical side and its powerful sound. Jesus Aint In Poland managed to embed small ambient moments throughout their Grind mess which melds perfectly. They pieced together fast crushing Grind segments with Doom/Black Metal elements so precisely. Every song has a beautiful, yet suffocating dark atmosphere especially in the end of album. This beautiful specimen is wrapped in a neat little digipack. It has magical artwork with a very emotionally moving art piece. Plus it has the lovely, bitter smell of fresh paint.
