All Over The Face - Like a Bull

This was one of those unexpected promos; they are rare in my practice. Guys from Switzerland sent me a big parcel with their debut album “Like a Bull”. I was surprised when I opened it, there was both the LP and CD version of this full length… I must admit not every day you receive 2 formats of one release. So as I said All Over The Face are from Switzerland, they came together 5 years ago, not sure if I can still call them an active band. During their years of existence they played a bunch of gigs and released 1 album. In my opinion this band is a bit weird, because it’s mixing everything together; Punk, Metal, Crust, Grind and Hardcore. Like a Bull has a rather unattractive red cover, but it has huge portion of hate inside. All 9 songs are about our rotten world and our ugly behavior. This album is intense and fast, with quality sound and mixing. But, I found it very strange and it took me some time to realize why it's so hard to listen to this album through to the end. These guys are using many riffs, structures and tunes from different genres and together it sounds cluttered. I don't want to be an asshole, but this album can be compared to Frankenstein’s Monster or to a broken puzzle. Bass, drums, guitar, every instrument sounds good, but the way they`re combined is weird; the whole 20 minute album simply didn't catch my attention. Rating: 6/10 All Ove rThe Face fb Official site

Insomnia Isterica - Anthology Of Alcoholic Beverages

My old friends from Insomnia Isterica finally released a discography! Finally we're able to enjoy the noise without switching all 7 eps on our turntables, ha! The “Anthology Of Alcoholic Beverages” was realized on CD and cassette. I was lucky enough to get a copy of the tape, so with this write up I will cover the release from Grindfather Prod. Funny thing, this cassette looks like it's pro made (by a factory) but I definitely know that this is a diy release. Recording and all prints were made by punk hands, and that is impressive. But, all this talk makes no sense if you're hearing this name for the first time. So who is Insomnia Isterica? It's unbelievably simple! This band is just a bunch of good friends who are stuck deep in punk and grind stuff. They are making raw and gritty as fuck noise. One of the best things in their music is an aggressive punk base. These guys believe in their music, so that's why it sounds so pure and energetic. Most of the songs sound very fun and groovy. You could easily mosh and head bang to this loud music. On this tape you will hear an awesome fusion of buzzing grind guitar and aggressive yealing, sloppy blast/polka beats and much more! The vocals are very punk/mince influenced while the musical structures are so barbaric and simple, most of them are based on a crust punk/grindcore sound. "Nebbia" is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. And of course I like that raw heavy drumming, it sounds like it’s thudding around inside your skull haha! This is not a "fashion" Grind release. Its primal and raw. But if you want to hear something wild and honest, go ahead and check “Anthology Of Alcoholic Beverages”! Rating: 8/10 Insomnia Isterica fb

Unpalatable Gore Offering 4 way split!

The "Unpalatable Gore Offering" is the fourth split from Choothar Tapes. This time Elliot Smith put together 4 bands from different and dark corners of our shitty planet. Art for this noisy tape was made with the use of lovely pink and grey colors. And fuck yeah, everything looks so cute, hahaha! First band in this split is Meatus. As many of you may know, this is a one man project with Joe (Violent Gorge, Archagathus) in charge. Usually the noise of this band stands out with its messy, raw and low sound. But these 6 songs have pretty shitty sound… The sounds are deafening and inexpressive. But I still can catch some good and primitive rhythms, riffs and good mincegore energy. Ugly distorted guitar is the first thing that you will hear here. These manic buzzing noises with pitch shifted roars keep all the attention. Well it's not the best work of Meatus, but let`s see what Joe will record next. Next band is from a pretty unusual place. Sulsa was founded in South Korea. Exotic or not these guys are totally in love with Goregrind. They've chosen a path close to old school Goregrind, at least that's how it was on their early works. So we have here 4 songs full of nice classical low sound and other attributes of good gore. I really like the tone of this guitar, it sounds cool, deep and catchy. I must notice that the vomiting vocals are in good balance with the other instruments. It does not overlap and does not mix into the mess. There is only one thing that I`m not happy with. It`s the cyber drums, they sound not so annoying, but they spoil the whole impression of this small Gore work. Our old friends from Switzerland they open side B. Nasty Face consists of only two man, but that does not mean that this music sucks. On the contrary, this dude manages to do something groovy, angry and full of fun! Screams, roars, distorted vocals all these different elements help to diversify the music. The parts with high screaming guitar riffs help this band to stands out. There's a lot of death metal riffs and tempos but they are not 100% classic, they're full of goofy punk energy. And I believe that that is the secret of this band. And yes, these “tupa tupa”, blast beat parts are great. I must admit, the guy behind Nasty Face are pretty talented. Orchiopexy is a new name for me… And they pleasantly surprised me. These freaks from Ohio are playing some raw mix of gore/mince and punk. The whole sound mixing of their side is freaking raw but, somehow these noises sound very catchy. The clanking bass is the main thing here, it stands out from all the music, and it brings some stupid punk spirit. The guitar is noisy somewhere in the background, almost the same with vomiting vocals. But, the drums and bass are on the first line. These guys end their sound torture with a cover of Ahumado Granujo (which is pretty impressive). PS: This is a tape for Gore freaks only! Rating: 7.5/10

Obstreperous Mangling Botheration (Choothar tapes)

Goregrind much like a deadly plague,it creeps around the world… It seems that this genre became pretty popular in our small underground world. There are so many interesting new bands and new nasty releases from old names. So today I want to talk about this muddy international tape which is in my top Gore releases for this year. One tape, 4 slimy bands from Russia, Switzerland, Australia and UK. Cystoblastosis are the first who will release their noise to us. First of all I want to say that I`m feeling some small changes in their music (I guess it`s because of the new guitar player). Like always that dirty act from St. Petersburg has many catchy things (mostly in tempos and riffs), but the whole sound became lower. You can especially feel it in the guitar sound (that buzzing mess is heavy as fuck). But in general it's the same goofy, groovy and loud Cystoblastosis which we know so well. Next is the last recorded material from Australian Take That Vile Fiend. These guys killed me (and not only me) with their full album, so let`s see what they've prepared for us today. Hm, this material is very raw and noisy, but also this stuff is very aggressive and loud. I like these slow guitar riffs, they bring good atmosphere (sometimes those buzzing pieces remind me of some sort of strange black metal) and of course we can't miss out on these dirty blast beats (that blasting is creating a real mess). Side B is starting with Nasty Face (as I know it`s their last recording too, for this moment). This time our Swiss friends prepared a bunch of good covers. They covered bands such as Regurgitate, Dahmer, Embryonic Cryptopathia, Famine and Grossel. All of these covers were recorded with NF`s branded sound. It`s pretty hard to describe these noises, you all know these songs and you all know that NF don’t like to record bad stuff. So just put this tape in your player and enjoy the good punky gore! Regular Sized Rudy is a new name for me. It's said that this is a one man mincegrind band from the UK (Leeds). Well I must say that the whole material is influenced by goregrind, and this raw recording tastes good. All songs have the main attributes of mince, all of them are muddy, stupid, fast and groovy. Super simple riffs, pitch shifted roars and big load of fun. I`m pretty sure that this is a debut release for this band, well that guy managed to do some nice work. Rating: 8/10 Nasty Face Cystoblastosis

Precocious Gargling Audacity (4-way split)

About a year ago Choothar Tapes started to release these kind of splits. To date, they have released 5 splits in this series (they are united by a similar design and also Nasty Face is on each of these tapes). So for this noise journey we will start with this yellow (like piss) 4-way split which was released in the middle of last summer. This mess starts with good low vomit tunes from French Grossel. These bastards found their own way to curb raw primitive rhythms and sounds. These songs are full of groove and fun tunes and energy. I especially like the guitar sound… It's so low, dense and heavy. Ugly distorted roars, raw blast beats… and moldy sound. This band sets a good pace for this release. Nasty Face is up next. If you`re trying to find good Gore stuff (which sounds like in the old days) then your search is over. Chainsaw guitars mix with vomit yelling give birth to something dirty and nasty. Also I really like the raw and barbaric sound of the blast beats. But this noise mess consists not only of Goregrind madness. I feel a big influence of Death Metal (especially in the guitar riffs). Next is something pretty weird, something from the tomb of the British island. Chinsniffer are playing very crazy mix of grindcore, hardcore, noise with addition of some chaotic tunes. These guys surprised me, I did not expect to hear something like this, haha! Here there are chaotic riffs, sharp tones, powerful tempos and good sound. An endless stream of furious energy… This thing will make you jump. But unfortunately these guys only recorded 2 songs for this tape (what a shame)… And this split ends with Bloodsnorter. I must admit that this is a really nice way to end this story which is called Precocious Gargling Audacity. These bastards birthed 9 loud and crazy songs for this release. This fast mess reminds me of tunes from Brutal Blues (or Parlamentarisk Sodomi which is almost the same). I guess the main point here is chaotic speed, guys are breaking the pace all the time. They use all attributes: Speed, simple riffs, nice blast beats, a few different kinds of vocals and then they put it all together in musical equivalent of a famous Lewis Carroll story. Rating: 8/10

Embalming Theatre - The Beast Collection (Power it Up)

Okay boys and girls let’s sit around the fire and relax… Let me tell you the bloody story about the adventures of some maniacs, different disgusting things and many other interesting stories. The Beast Collection is like a book (okay audio book) with many scary stories. Here you'll find songs from splits with Mesrine, Dead, FUBAR, Fondlecorpse and the Sadisticannibal ep. And if I understand it right all this material is united by one song about James Young. The design for this tape was made with pieces from each release involved here (by the way this art was made by one of the E.T. member). So you can already understand that this tape is rich with some disgusting sounds, strange and distuebing themes… well lets dig a little bit into the noise. Hmmm... these Swiss bastards put a lot of great movie samples. Many words from films with (and about) maniacs and like a cherry on the top, sample from the Evil Dead, hahaha that’s so great! This tape is full of audio maggots and radioactive audio slime! These middle tempos like a patient maniac which is waiting their victim. Not in any rush, he is waiting for the right moment to attack. The same with E.T., these buzzing guitars, crazy screams and roars. They'll slowly penetrate and poison you from within. And then in one brief moment they destroy you… your brain is melting, your lungs are stopping… you can’t think and breathe. This brand of Death/Gore brings you a swift but painful death. Embalming Theatre - Exquisite Cadaveric Hormon Cocktail (Power It Up)

This tape had to take a long trip from Germany (nice people from Power it Up send it to me) before eventually falling into my tape player, hehe)). This is not a new record but it is definitely a pretty nice and lovely tape. It is sort of a dreadful monster pregnant with two very ugly babies... “Exquisite Cadaveric Hormon Cocktail” absorbed songs from the mini album "Hormones From The Dead" and the split-CD with Torture Incident. In total we have 20 songs about different strange, horror, nasty and creepy things. The tape comes with both cover artworks so that you can choose which one to display on the front. And by the way, both covers look fantastic... It’s another perfect work by Marco (Vocals). Everything is drawn by hand and it’s really insane... Good and spooky work. Let’s now focus on the music.
These Swiss bloodsuckers really love scary things. In their songs they use many dark themes like stories about butchers and other different maniacs. There’s even a song about Wendigo (a creature from Indian mythology). I know that many grind freaks believe that this gang is boring and not original but personally, I found many interesting things in these noises. Okay, maybe their material is not super extreme and the overall speed is not ultra-duper-blasting. However, the gloomy rhythms and the dark low sound are nice. I like the way these guys mix death metal with goregrind... Especially old school death metal guitar riffs. The ugly roaring vocals make these songs even more monstrous, haha! I must also mention the good work of the drummer. Maybe he is not hyper technical but his "tupa tupa" and blast beats will pound your brain like a jackhammer.
I hope to hear some new stuff by these noisy butchers. For now, let's enjoy this compilation.

Insomnia Isterica / Grossel

This is one of those splits that I've been waiting for a long time. This is because of two solid representatives of European grind core scene (we will talk about them a little bit later). The split was designed by the vocalist of Insomnia Isterica, his style is so unique that it is hard not to recognize it. This time he managed to insert a big amount of cute characters in one picture. All these punk zombies look very funny to me and if you look at them more carefully, you won't find two similar characters.

Switzerland is famous not only for its beautiful landscapes and reliable banks but also for people who play grind, ahah!) Finally, we’ve got fresh record from Insomnia Isterica! And I bet that these guys won’t disappoint you. It is definitely one of their greatest recordings. It’s warmed up, cheerful with armor-crushing songs. They are like the sound of the drill in the early morning smashing into your walls from the outside; it warms up very much :) It is good that these guys mixed fast aggression with slow parts, this is the thing for a good mush, ahaha)

French bandits Grossel step out confidently on the path of the noisy underground. This is their first vinyl release and guys have done their best. They have presented a very good record here. Oh, this is the guitar sound that I like the most in their songs. It is very low and solid... and has simple rhythms that will make you dance and shake your head at full power!) And I should point out the main song here which is called «We Don't Want Your Politics…». To me, it is the best one here, this ridiculous singing on the chorus is a great thing!)

If you have missed heavy raw and warmed up grind core, then I highly recommend you to listen to this split! For better experience - just buy it from labels or the bands itself, to support them and help them make a new material ;)
