Grid - Human Collapse Syndrome
Here we are now, two years later, with new noise from Grid. Human Collapse Syndrome is the second attack from these Swedish commandos, and I found some very good changes in it… I must say this work sounds more mature. Yes, there is only 10 minutes, but I enjoyed them lot. I think that these guys have found their sound and speed; it's heavy and deep with a light touch of modernity.
The mini-gun sounding guitar shoots very tight riffs, and literally annihilate everything with fast buzzing tunes. Skull thumping drums could crash the rock; I like how this snare sounds. And, of course, these blast beats are good, I like that they didn't clutter everything, as they are somewhere on the same line with the guitar. A nice distorted bass is there too, just go and check out the two last songs “Fooled” and “Out Of Air”. Pleasant screams and roars are cover everything above and holy moly this type of vocal is a perfect fit to this grinding madness. I can hear a lot influences from Nasum (I bet this is an iconic band to them). I found similar riffs there and there, but anyway this recording session is damn catchy.
After all that crazy rush you may think that this noise were created by group of skilled musicians? Yes they're pretty skilled but there is only two guys! Grid is just a duo, and I think these airheads have a big future.

Axis of Despair - Contempt for Man
Well
today is the day! Swedish grinders Axis of Despair have finally released their
first full length album! Hip-hip hooray! This work sounds much stronger than
the previous 2 EPs. This album is the real deal; half an hour of insane
Grindcore in the relentless Swedish style. These guys managed to make this
album deep in so many ways, strong lyrics about human behavior, social queues
and the blackest shit in our souls. The awesome artwork (drawn by Paul Romano)
has many key features; including a dark atmosphere and cold undertone. Then of
course there is the music. All the songs were not written by a single
individual. Each song is intricately written by one of the band members, so in
the end we have something along the lines of a compilation of each members greatest
traits shining through. Despite that fact that these guys are all different
people with different views, all the songs sound like they flow in one smooth
line.
Contempt for Man is the complete package: twenty songs of pure brutality
and anger. One of the things on this album that I love most, is it`s a great
balance between instrumental parts and vocals. Joel did a great job; he screams
exactly as much as these songs need, he does not clutter everything with roars,
and that is necessary. Anders drum work is amazing, the reverberation of the
cymbals and the stuttering blasts just get inside me and I lose all sense of
time and place. Oskar managed to catch a really nice and low tone. The grizzly
sound of his bass guitar brings some dense notes into the whole song structure.
Fast riffing from Kristofer could smash your skull. The buzzing tunes from his
instrument literally drilled my ears, ha!
As you may know this band features
members of Nasum. But, believe me Axis of Despair sounds nothing like Nasum.
They have their own view of Grindcore and they don’t intend to change. So if
you like fast blasting Grindcore with a great concept, go and listen to this
album!

Needful Things / Overviolence (Psychocontrol records)
Today is Tuesday and, as always, this day sucks, so let's plug it with a split from Needful Things and Overviolence!
As I know, originally this split was released as a tape and it was released for an Asia tour. Now it's been turned into a vinyl, and holy moly this piece looks great. Weird cover art, with gloomy faces, a combination of colors all of which create a nice aggressive and Grind look.
Needful Things is a Grind mastodon of the Czechs scene. Can you believe that this machine has been active more than 20 years? And they're still in great shape, just check how loud their blast beats are, haha! Their style of music hasn’t shifted any and is worthy of respect. For this split our friends recorded 3 tracks. These 3 songs are all written in a similar style to an effective template that alters each time but keeps the same basic elements (like fast and short guitar riffs, bulldozering bass and heavy blast beats), time changes are kept to the same mid to fast pace and back again formula. Everything above is spiced with massive, thundering and demonic sound. That's how grindcore should be!
Play louder, play faster! That's the main rule of the mad Swedes in Overviolence. They caught me with their first EP, I remember I was really surprised about the level of violence in their music. With this work, the boys show their Grindcore side. This material has less of Powerviolence and Fastcore feel, and more of a traditional Grindcore feel. And I like this small change. The combination of speed, simple structures and ferocity create a very painful pressure. The guitar tone perfectly fits with the blasting madness and bass sound. A few variations of vocals make this mess sound more intense and alive. This is a really robust cup of sound torture!
