Bad Grind Spencer / Mindcollapse

We have talk about a lot, but there will be always some of split/album that you`ve never heard and want to talk about. For today's review I picked up a dirty and noisy split from two bands from Madrid city. Can't say that both of these squads are well known outside of their country, but Bad Grind Spencer and Mindcollapse deserve to be shown to grind fans. Please pay a bit attention for this cover. I really like this idea, the designer made fun of stupid celebrities who are wearing underground merchandise… and I agree with him, these fuckers should be punished!

Just a short static noise, and Bad Grind Spencer started to play. Hmm… all songs have traditional elements for this genre, but that didn`t make this music boring. This dirty clot of aggression has a lot of power which is nice, guitar tone is loud, screams are good and hysterical. Drums are a little bit sloppy but it`s usual thing. Unfortunately I didn`t hear the bass guitar, it's cluttered with everything else and the whole sound wasn't prepared for this format so the high and low frequency were cut off.

As far as I know this a debut work for Mindcollapse, guys used their demo for this split. These matadors are throwing 5 nasty song right into our faces. All tracks are charged with a crazy portion of ferocity and anger. Mindcollapse are mixing old raw grindcore with hyperspeed crust punk that why their noise is catchy and heavy as fuck. I really like how this harsh grind growl is compounded with all instruments. Must admit that this side sounds better than side A but it could be better.

Convulsions / Recalcitrant

Since the the early 80's and through the following decades, Grindcore was never a stable genre. Over the years this amorphous substance mutated into something more aggressive, more ferocious and with heavier sound. It's like a race, where everyone is trying to hold the lead position, hehe. So it comes as no surprise that nowadays Grindcore is drastically different than it's origins. Speaking of modern Grind... Today I want to spin a great split with fresh bands that are worthy of your attention. I hold in my hands the result of friendship between Spanish Grinders, Convulsions and American Grinders, Recalcitrant. This Grindcore salad is served with blasting sauce and a pint of bitter buzzing sound. I won't lie, the look of this release is not attractive at all, but the sound of this split is full of tasty tunes. So… The first band is Convulsions and the first song is Apurando El Día. This is blood boiling Grindcore, it`s fresh and it`s full of live energy. This noise sounds like hyperspeed punk rock, ha! Simple riffs, fast structures, good guitar tone. These rather specific kind of vocals (it sounds like guttural screaming) fit perfectly with this madness. All the noise from the cymbals and drum set line up with all the other instruments, so it doesn't pop-out. It seems that everything is in harmony, but there is one small issue I had, I didn't hear the bass guitar, that`s a pity. Recalcitrant came up with an absolutely jaw dropping session. I feel like they put all their hate and anger into these songs. I really dig this side, this noise is heavier than Convulsions, these US Grinders use a lot good tricks from old school Grind bands (personally I feel influences from Assuck and Excruciating Terror). Blasting speed is really good (without breaking the sound barrier), the drummer switches into some groove beats which just feel right. Guitar is a bit messy, but in general it sounds badass and yes, the vocals sound barbaric and evil. Recalcitrant didn't forget to use all the necessary Grind ingredients and the result is very potent. Rating: 8/10 Convulsions fb Recalcitrant fb

Bloody Phoenix / Lycanthrophy / Skunk / Disturbance Project (Dead Heroes rec)

It has been years since this album was released, I wanted this LP so much, but only this year I got a chance to get this beautiful beast, haha! Yeah I know, all the bands on this release are bloody good, I don’t need to go into detail about them… But the names were not the first thing that caught my eye. Look at this artwork, this image is absolutely killer! It was made by Szymon Siech (VBRRTRD.com) and this work perfectly fits with this noise and incredibly conveys the atmosphere of madness from all 4 bands. But, enough about the artwork, let's jump into our first band on the line - Bloody Phoenix! As far as I know this is the final recording from Bloody Phoenix and they are here to harm your ears with 5 brutal songs for the last time. The songs are overflowing with ferocity, each track feels like a strong punch. Savage screams, crazy blast beats and buzzing guitar sound, that’s what we want to hear from this band and we are given all of the above. I want to highlight the last song Bella Ciao. This really crazy song was made with the inspiration of weird Russian groove war songs, and honestly, it sounds very great. But there is one negative moment in this material. The sound is not loud enough, everything sounds a bit dumb. Czech Fastcore warriors Lycanthrophy are honored veterans of the European Noise scene. I’m glad that they are on this split. If you have heard this band once you will recognize them every time. They have their own crazy style and powerful speed. The vocals are especially spicy here, but the riffs are good too. Punky blasting is simply badass and the bass sound makes this mess decent. They recorded 9 songs for this split, but it`s very hard to notice pauses between songs, so this material sounds like one big and mad swarm of the piranhas. Skunk is responsible for the Crust mood on this LP. These Canadian fuckers know how to create really cheerful and groovy music. Simple and catchy riffs, clear structures and a ton of dirty power, that’s what Skunk sounds like. The caveman vocals are sick, and I can say the same about their guitar tone. Goofy drums are here too, together they are creating very cohesive noise, that sticks to you and makes start to sing the rhythms. This band has two members from Archagathus, I guess that is the main reason why these riffs sound very similar to Arch material. Spanish grinders from Disturbance Project are closing this rodeo. This band is very sharp and dangerous... Their Noise comes at you lighting fast, like a Bullet Train of fist-pumping perfection. All the songs are short (it`s a standard of Grindcore) and charged with huge load of energy. This combination of riffs, vocals, and blasting drumming could be compared with a harsh fight. While listening to this band you will imagine yourself inside the cage during an MMA-style match. The bottom line, however, is this is an old split but, it’s still one of the best split’s to come out over the last few year. Haemorrhage - Haematology II - The Singles Collection (Power It Up)

In the world of grind, it’s practically impossible to not know the name Haemorrhage. This nasty pathological act has taken the hearts and minds from the biggest part of the underground community. It's taken more than 10 years to release second part of Haematology, but believe me, it was worth the wait. Traditionally, I want to consider the design of this release. So, German Power It Up released 2 version of this compilation; the first is a double gatefold vinyl edition, and the second is a CD version. I was lucky to get a 2LP version, and you know what? It's fucking gorgeous! All of the polygraphy is high in quality, and everything looks just amazing. Luisma drew badass art for this one... The Mad Pathologist is back, haha! Inside the sleeve you will find much interesting information. Each of the releases within this edition has a small story about this or that split; it was really interesting to read all of them. Everything here is soaked with the creepy atmosphere of a morgue.

30 songs were gathered together - you will hear noise from split with Impaled, Embalming Theatre, Dead Infection, Dead, Disgorge, Gruesome Stuff Relish, Amputation Protocol EP, and a few songs from the split with Gutalax. Expect of more than a 1 hour bonanza with churning grooves and bloody tunes.

It's hard to find new words for this band, we all know what the guys from the Haemorrhage are capable of. Their style is very recognizable and remarkable. Their brand of gore has a moldy taste and an old school punk spirit. I believe that this formula helps to keep this noise in a fresh and cheerful condition. The catchy guitar sounds like a real butcher buzzsaw (check songs from Gruesome Stuff Relish). In most songs, you will only be able to feel the bass, but in songs 7-9 (split with Dead Infection) it's on the first line and it has a monstrous sound. The blasting material from the split with German band Dead is freaking furious, and one of the fastest materials that I have heard from Haemorrhage. The vocal is the most stable thing here, it's powerful and ugly in all songs. In all meanings Haematology II is rad release and if you really love gore, you should have this putrid piece in your collection!
