Sturmovik - Destination Nowhere (Selfmadegod rec)

Crust band from Poland? Yes! Why not? Sturmovik is a rather young band and this CD is only their first album. But I take my hat off to them, these guys put everything that they had into this release and I felt that during listening. But, for now let`s focus on visual pleasure that is the cover art of this full length. I especially enjoy this piece, the artist has drawn an old plane from WW2 with a bit modern flair but I like it. It looks very handsome with the band logo. And if you open up the booklet, you will get a band poster, nice surprise isn't it? 

To be honest this debut album of Polish Sturmovik crashed around in my mind for a long time. I was quite surprised with it’s quality and material in general. All the songs remind me of the Swedish school of Crust, that was odd to me, but on the other hand it was a pleasure too. These brilliant musicians managed to create a really rock n roll album that could bite, haha! Everything is tied together song writing wise, and the album flows nicely. The music is heavy, well defined, with doses of melody that are simplistic yet catchy. Songs like “Matters Not”, “Bad Earth, Bad Sons”, and “Trial By Fire” feature plenty of catchy d-beat sections, fast punk riffs, and nice loud screaming vocals. In fact, “Matters Not” has quickly risen to be one of my favorite songs on this album. Very cool intro, swing and crashing rhythms, drop of melodies, awesome solos, caveman d-beats, screams and a ton of catchy moments. But after I put this CD in my player I discovered one frustrating thing… it`s sound. I got the feeling that I was listening “Destination Nowhere” on youtube and not from the CD itself. This spoiled the general impression of listening to this album.

Humus - Eterna Condanna (Death Crush rec)

Humus is our target today. I want to talk about their last album “Eterna Condanna”. This LP is an excellent example of badass Crust Punk. This full length is like a small nuclear missile, it’s charged with destructive power. These guys managed to use so many of the classic Crust elements. From the riffs, to the structures, and even down to the furious energy. Even the artwork is made the old way (a marvelous collage with lots of elements) plus traditional black and white. 

Eterna Condanna is a wild Rock and Roll ride that will keep you holding on by the seat of your pants. The crazed buzzing riffs and potent bass playing in conjunction with the maniacal half shrieked vocals quite frankly rides the line of madness. Twisting d beats will drive you crazy; this music can cheer up even a dead person, haha! You feel the band about to fall apart, but that's what makes Eterna Condanna so addictive. One of the album’s better songs, “Supermarket overdose” comes at the end of the album, and it stands out with its punchy sound pressure and fantastic catchy guitar solo. 

If you`re into Crust music or you have a hangover, we recommend to you this kick ass album. This noise will cure a bad mood, and chronic depression.

Social Chaos - Dia do óbito (Rødel Records)

At the end of this long day I just want a Grind album that I can enjoy that has enough of aggression and barbarity. Social Chaos will help me convince you that Grindcore will never die.
Originally “Dia do óbito” was released in 2014, on CD, but I guess that did not satisfy the fans, and in 2017 this monolith was reborn on beautiful black wax with a nice gatefold sleeve. Actually, I am a bit disappointed by the cover artwork. Because this full length deserves something much stronger, more aggressive and brutal. In my opinion this gothic art does not fit this album. Ah well, one cannot have everything.
Social Chaos undoubtedly plays around with the traditional aspects of old school Grind. But, these guy are using elements from other genres like Death Metal, Punk and Crust. The mixture of these things helps to keep this noise fresh, full of energy and juicy. The guitar spewing out primitive and brutal riffs with low buzzing sound, these tunes can crush bones! Also there is some cute small solos, which perfectly fit into this old noise. Death Metal growling and screams make the sound of this album more demonic, the vocal section is an integral part of “Dia do óbito”. The drumming sound is interesting too. Snare has a weird sound, it sounds like the drummer is playing on a human skull, hahah! Unfortunately the bass is lost somewhere under the guitars and blasts beat, that is not a catastrophe, because this album still sounds raw and badass.
This band has been active since 2001, during these years they have released a lot of good stuff. And I really hope to hear a new album from them soon, because I cant satisfy myself with only Dia do óbito, no matter how often I to listen it

Happivaje - S/T

My friend introduced me to Happivaje, saying they are a great piece of raw Crust. I remember only that I really liked their dirty EP back in the day. And then I just simply forgot about these Finnish punk bastards. Until now, when I found this tape inside my mail box. As this band is pretty unknown I feel that I should shed light on them. Happivaje consists of 4 units, they are based in Joensuu, and yes these punks are all native Finns. This 9 song, self-titled record is their debut (and it is a very good one). All this noise is wrapped in a classic (I guess I can say that) grindcore cover. This collage looks pretty dreadful; all these elements (theme of tracking, blind children, “big brother is watching you”) create nice dark atmosphere. This tape starts with a very classic intro (as for crust punk of course), few short riffs, good punk solo and then an endless wall of raw energy. I do enjoy the crunchy downtuned bass and distorted rhythm guitar. Both of these instruments sound very filthy on this recording and it suits the Crust Punk atmosphere well. Drums sound a little bit sloppy but I really love that (that brings more points to the whole sound). The vocalist did a great job too, he is spitting out lyrics with such anger and this also effects the whole atmosphere. Almost all the songs consist of straight-up speed attacks, sometimes it seems that I hear pure grind (like in an Aivopesty song). Well now I really don't know what more I can add... Just try to listen to this EP on your own folks, I`m pretty sure that you will like it. Rating: 7.5/10 Happivaje fb Happivaje bc

Global Holocaust / Dehumanized Earth

Here is a raw and noisy crust split from one cold and brutal country. These Canadians are pretty famous inside their land (especially Global Holocaust which started in 89). Both of them did some hiatus and both are active now. The bands dedicated their covers for war problems. Global Holocaust chose a picture from old war in Korea and Dehumanized Earth take a photo from some war act in Africa (sorry but I don’t know exactly this picture is from). This split starts with good punch from GxHx! Guys play pretty aggressive and fast. Minimum amount of melodies and maximum amount of d beat and crazy yelling. There are only two songs, but they rich with nice crashing riffs and nuclear energy. I especially like the second song which is called “Consumed”. That one is so full of great slime punk stench and crazy fun! And now let’s switch to the second side. Dehumanized Earth is a band who are based in St-Hyacinthe city (Quebec). Their music stands out on this split with a pretty dark atmosphere. Their songs have a lot of d beat moments too, but their riffs are lower… I really can say that their songs have a positive energy. Hm… These songs cause more serious emotions in my mind. It`s seems like I almost feel all the dreadful pain from which they consist of. This one is strong work, but that atmosphere is so heavy (I don’t knows what frequencies DxEx use to, but these 4 tracks impress)… Rating: 7.5 Global Holocaust Dehumanized Earth

Horryfying and violent noisy d-beat hardcore punk act from Boston with members of G.A.S.H., Video Filth, Aspects of War, Human Bodies. To me its kind of mixture between anarchist/anti-war ideology of Crass, live violent actions of singer Ghost in the vein of GISM, industrial/harsh noise parts by Bombings and all these injected into good overfuzzed d-beat punk! This stuff is intense and forceful with buzzing riffs, thumping percussion and ferocious vocal howls. The LP includs their demo 1st time on vinyl and their following 7" which was remastered by Jack Control. You can order this suff at Regurgitated Semen Records! 

Hellkrusher / Visions Of War (Power it Up)

Okay Crust lovers keep your pants tight because today we will listen to a very cool split from two very cool bands. Bands with great history and big experience in making punk noise. Old Hellkrusher is the first band which will attack us. These crust punk veterans presented two very toxic songs. Hellkrusher does not depart from their traditions, they continue to destroy this world with their noisy music. Fuck, from the very first second that bass guitar sound just struck my heart… it sounds so adorable. Also just check those buzzing riffs and guitar solos I have a feeling like I just got out from my DeLorean and found myself in the 80's at a punk concert hahaha! Good sound, simple but lovely songs, aggressive tempos… what else do you need?) Next one is a very robust boys from Belgium. Visions Of War plays more harsh stuff then their colleagues from Hellkrusher. Their noise is full of extreme power, some crust violence and hard grindcore spirit. This low sound wall can crush everything and everyone. But these songs are not as brutal as it may seem. There is a lot of good swing d beat pieces, sharp guitar solos and loud roars. Intensive barbarian energy just overflowing their side… And for the end I left a few words about the art on this small split. Front cover is not super interesting, understand this please, it's nice but the theme of skulls and ammunition is very common in crust. But art on the back side is the real deal. It`s a very cool idea to portray two predators (scavengers) who are fighting for the bone. And on back the artist painted bombs that are falling to the ground. I think that in this way he wanted to show how politicians (or maybe big corporations) are fighting for power and they do not care about anyone else. I mean because of their interests, innocent people suffer and die. Well I guess (and hope) that people will listen to this split for a long time… and this split will not go unnoticed and forgotten.
