We have another strong debut here. Finland`s womb just regurgitated a new grind band, meet Execution Mania from Helsinki. As I know this band includes musicians from Pelkotila and Unohdettu Tulevaisuus... And this collaboration brought a good Grind result. The case with bands like Execution Mania is - you either like, or hate them. You either "get" the noise or you don't. If you like fast, dirty and heavy music with crazy vocals and messy sound then this EP might be for you. The tape is short but, this didn't stop the guys from putting in a maximum portion of ferocity. Like I said, the whole sound is muddy and some of the instruments merge into one ugly piece. But, I should say that this noise has a lot of live energy and swinging catchy riffs. These guys are mixing old school Grindcore with Mincecore (I feel the influences of Archagathus and Agathocles). I like that they didn't use a pitch shifter and other “modern” equipment. That “real” yelling, roars and raw blastings sounds so savage... I think that the direction Execution Mania have taken from this debut is really promising and I'm sure these guys will show even more badass noise in the near future. Death Toll 80k - Step Down (Grindfather prod)

It’s been a quiet four years since Death Toll 80k recorded something new. Due to some problems with health and other bad things, this long awaited album was delayed. All this time we were silently waiting and the miracle finally happened, “Step Down” has finally arrived. For this review I picked up a cassette version which was released by Grindfather Productions. I know that the boss of this label is doing everything by himself. For example, the sound was recorded with help from a nice stacionary tape decks. All logos and other info were applied on the shell in the old diy way (by stencil). Also my copy looks exactly like a bottle of Sheridan's liqueur, haha, that is so nice! In comparing with “Harsh Realities”, this album isn't radically different; they both are massive and heavy. Death Toll 80k didn`t change the music, or the style. So, what’s the deal with Step Down? This is honestly a thundering piece of blasting Grindcore. The album did not disappoint me, these guys have always known how to sound heavy and how to squeeze out the brains with huge, furious and fast portions of noise. On this album, they've decided to speed up a little bit, that makes this album sound a bit more extreme. All the songs are short (yep, it's a gold standard), they could be compared to bites from a crazy huge dog. Track by track it bites off a piece of your mind. Let's not forget that the boys managed to find a perfect balance between blasting madness and swarming riffs. All of the above is spiced with really angry vocals. Well that's how Grindcore should be. PS: I like that the punk element is still there, it shows that they are still loyal to their roots.

Hi Alexander!! Thanks for getting in touch! It's really nice to have this chance to chat. I suppose I'm doing okay for the most part. Lately I have been way too stressed out though, and in some ways my life (or at least the way I experience it) has been quite unstable. But l can't really complain either, as at the moment I have a job which I really like, I'm surrounded by really wonderful people and I have a ton of creative projects that are very important to me, so I’m trying to stay positive you know!

Sonic Poison - Combat Grind (Me Saco Un Ojo Records)

Look who`s back! The young Finnish grinders from Sonic Poison have recorded new stuff! The guys didn't act like stinky cunts, they did not split up after the first ep “Harsh Demonstration” (you all know how many band love to split up after their first badass record) and that made me really happy. Their new work was released in tape and vinyl formats and it wears a proud name “Combat Grind”. With this lovely tape the guys are acting like Jeffrey Dahmer. They drill our heads with good and powerful noise and then they inject painful poison of oldstyle Grind. Our Finnish friends hid 7 ugly songs under this filthy cover. And I think that this cover deserves a separate review. I noted a tiny connection with the previous work (mostly because of the similar way of tearing the flesh). Just look closely at this art… I see theres a lot of influence from H. P. Lovecraft novels and maybe from Warhammer 40k universe. Tentacles, monsters, guts, corpses and an endless void of pain. What else do we need? So this satanic trip in old school times has a moldy taste. A taste of old sound and old hairy riffs. These Finnish guys really love the golden times of good music. Sonic Poison managed to recreate a dark,doomy atmosphere, but, with the addition of something all their own. Between sharp guitar riffs, solos and crazy blast beats seeps badass hoarse vocal. These screams and roars help to spice up the tracks with different textures and patterns. Every song has groovy death metal moments that actually remind me of bands like Repulsion, Obituary, Necrony, Impetigo,etc. I was surprised at the lack of samples from different movies… there is just music. These guys shoot song by song without any pauses, and it does them an honor. So if you`re a freak who loves old style music or you are an old man who is in nostalgic of old times, this tape is definitely for you! Napalm Ted / Mustasuo

The gloomy land of Finland has given birth to many great bands. Yes, this country is mostly known for its metal bands, but there (in the deepest and darkest caves) are many interesting grind and near grind squads. So today we will listen a really heavy (almost 100 gram! hahah) split 7” with two unordinary bands. As with almost all Finnish extreme albums/releases this 7” has a dark atmosphere and noticeable influence from black metal. I do not want to torture you with long and empty words, so allow me to start with the first band - Napam Ted! This band with weird name has 3 members, they're trolls located in Oulu. The sounds that come from their dark cave are pretty unusual. Mostly these tunes are based on extreme metal, but guys managed mix that with a solid portion of Grind and Crust. Their songs are fast, their sound is sharp and their roars are loud. That's how I can describe their crazy music. All 4 songs are short bursts of screaming energy (not much longer than 2 minutes). Also the whole side is pretty much riffy and unboring. Some of the parts remind me of Napalm Death and some Macabre… Next up are nasty blackned punks from the evil and dark forest! Hm, I dont know how to start. I find a lot of good things on this record, also I have found some bad stuff… I guess I will write about the good things. This record has a lot of good and interesting punk riffs and solos. These songs are impregnated with a solid load of heavy energy and of course that d-beat goodness. But the main negative I have is with the vocasl. I dont know how the vocals were recorded, but they stand out from the rest of the recording. I guess the problem is in bad mixing? Well we have what we have. Hope that guys will solve this problem on the next record! Rating: Napalm Ted - 7 Mustasuo - 6.5
