Dehumanized Earth / Dis-eased (Outrageous Defecation Records)

As many of you know the Crust scene in Canada is pretty large. There are a lot of great bands, but not many of these are more or less famous. So today we will try to examine in detail and dissect this split. Let’s start with a small introduction… Both of them are from Quebec City and both of them are suffering (in the case of Dis-eased – suffered, because the band split up 10 years ago) from crust punk disease. Small and unnecessary fact: some of the guys from Dehumanized Earth also played in Septicémie (one more unknown name) and boys from Dis-eased played (and still play) in Mesrine. Everything starts here with “Arnaque Légal”. Classic d-beat parts, raw sound, ugly yelling and some riffs (I noticed here a lot of metal riffs as well). Unfortunately this DxEx material is not memorable at all (especially in comparison with their Fausses Croyances ‎album). But, these 4 songs are not so bad… They have some punk spirit and groovy punk rhythms. But, I didn’t feel their premium dark and suffering atmosphere here. I didn’t feel depression and pain (like on their split with Global Holocaust) in these noises. It`s definitely not the best stuff from this band. And now let’s switch to Dis-eased. Unfortunately these guys recorded only two songs for this split, but these tracks are rad! Both songs are rich with great thick guitar sound, sweet solos (especially in “Inside Deep”), aggressive screaming and roaring. I can say the same about the bass and drums parts. It`s seems like this concentration of d-beat and riffs can explode at any second! Both songs exude a big load good and powerful punk energy, and I feel a little sorry that this band doesn’t play anymore.

Global Holocaust / Dehumanized Earth

Here is a raw and noisy crust split from one cold and brutal country. These Canadians are pretty famous inside their land (especially Global Holocaust which started in 89). Both of them did some hiatus and both are active now. The bands dedicated their covers for war problems. Global Holocaust chose a picture from old war in Korea and Dehumanized Earth take a photo from some war act in Africa (sorry but I don’t know exactly this picture is from). This split starts with good punch from GxHx! Guys play pretty aggressive and fast. Minimum amount of melodies and maximum amount of d beat and crazy yelling. There are only two songs, but they rich with nice crashing riffs and nuclear energy. I especially like the second song which is called “Consumed”. That one is so full of great slime punk stench and crazy fun! And now let’s switch to the second side. Dehumanized Earth is a band who are based in St-Hyacinthe city (Quebec). Their music stands out on this split with a pretty dark atmosphere. Their songs have a lot of d beat moments too, but their riffs are lower… I really can say that their songs have a positive energy. Hm… These songs cause more serious emotions in my mind. It`s seems like I almost feel all the dreadful pain from which they consist of. This one is strong work, but that atmosphere is so heavy (I don’t knows what frequencies DxEx use to, but these 4 tracks impress)… Rating: 7.5 Global Holocaust Dehumanized Earth

Existench/Deboned

I don't know why but it seems Canadians won't stop...this nation has so much energy that there is no place where to spend it. So people are creating new bands or continue to play, or reunite in different "play loud drum fast" bands. Here is a great examle of releasing of such an excessive energy.
Existench songs are just as raw and stinky as the smoke that they featured on the cover. This band has a lot of releases behind its back, and its history is very interesting as well. The sound might be weak and soft, but the songs sound very good. Raw, a little bit primitive, but very powerful. Derek's vocal style reminded me of old angry hardcore punk. This guy doesn't turn his throat inside out so we can hear the text well (which is pretty rare for grindcore, ahaha).
Deboned surpsised me again. Their material doesn't sound like grind at all, it is more like old good thrash metal (with disgusting toxic grind stench). When I was listening to these songs I imagined a bunch of hairy bodies making a full kick-ass in a circle pit, ahah! I think this effect is made by the sound which is very good (it’s sad that only few metal bands use such sound). I don't know what the others think but I liked this small experiment and got only positive impressions.

Restricted Rights / Skunk

I want to dedicate this review to my good friends from both bands Skunk and Restricted Rights. This split is full of dirty noises, good swing rhythms and filled with serious social life themes... At the very first look this split seems to be super deep and cruel, the innocent victim topic is very close to me... War, suffering, death, dead children, hunger... The artist did a great job. This picture looks very detailed and the longer you look at it the more you can see. First three songs are from Restricted Rights. It`s a pretty dirty and angry crust punk featuring the member of Dehumanized Earth (if I remember it right). Guys attack with 2 songs of their own and one cover on Malignant Tumour. As I’ve already said they play muddy sound with good power. Their first song is about animals, terrible experiments on them, and their rights. The second one is a cover on "Commands From The Oval Throne". And the third song is about War... It sounds like this raw record was made in someone's basement but somehow these songs are so alive. Powerful bass sound, nice drum work and smeared guitar with a drop of screams and roars. This pile of raw noise sounds very cheerful… The next attack is coming from Skunk. So, our stinky trio released 3 songs for this vinyl as well. Despite the fact that their grind d-beat is rather cheerful, the songs are very serious, almost all of them are dedicated to war. These 3 songs are like powerful bombs that are falling on your heads... energy from that noise will charge you and brings you back to life after horrible hangover. The guitar riffs swing you and then smash you against the wall... with distorted roaring and painful drumbeats, this nuclear noise will crush you down. Skunk have some members from Flash Out and Archagathus and this is enough, I mean you can feel the influence of those bands in Skunk noise (but it`s definitely okay).

Darkmill ‎– Feed The Poor (Outrageous Defecation Records)

Oh, and what a strange CD I got here... I've been thinking what to write about this one. I had to listen to it for like 3 times to fully grasp and understand this album, because guys have mixed so many different things together here. The thing that got me confused was probably the fact that this release is considered to be crust/grind/punk... And, of course, we got all those genres here, but I could hear different metal pieces as well, multiple genres (but not like in most death metal bands). And it`s pretty good that guys don’t set limits... but it sounds pretty strange. Guys did try to do their best, but despite all the efforts, it didn’t turn out to be so good…I could not really decide on whether I liked it or not, so let’s make it 50/50, shall we? But I have to point out the good parts: grind blasting parts, crust rhythms, punk sound of bass guitar and, also, I really like this semi-black metal song which is called “Little Dream”, hardcore one “Name Fallen” and of course “Puke To You”, Dissucks cover. Among the things that I don't like about it is the sound. It`s not very bad but I think there is not enough density and low frequencies. What’s more, different metal riffs and rhythms don’t really fit the larger picture sometimes.

Dehumanized Earth – Fausses Croyances (Outrageous Defecation Records)

Quite unfairly, Canadian band 'Dehumanized Earth' aren't given enough attention. Although this group is not very well known, their were very active (they had split up some years ago but now, but have since reformed and are preparing something new) and made many good things for the local Canadian scene. The songs of this band filled with serious and painful topics, which are also displayed on the cover of this album. To newcomers, Dehumanized Earth play a combintation of crust and d-beat with strongly accented bass, with vibration from which your brain pleasantly dissolves into jelly. All songs are pretty simple, sometimes played a little crooked and the overall sound could be better. BUT! I would be lying if I said I didn't like this. I think that the main trick is the simplicity and sincerity with which play these guys. That is why Fausses Croyances is so nice to listen to - The hoarse screams and roars of vocalists, noise from guitar (in the background) and the unstoppable swatting, relentlessness of the drummer. I also need to mention the atmosphere which engulfs this release... here there is some sort of barely perceptible sadness and sorrow... like the Earth is crying from what we do with her. In some moments, I noticed something like ancient black metal... which might just be my hallucinations, but it's great anyway!

Skunk/Existench split 7"

Hm I think it's already third purely Canadian split that I review this year. But this only proves that canadian scene is growing and nothing can stop it. On this piece of plastic we can see crusters Skunk and old grinders Existench (this is their first record after reunion). Externals of this split look very pretty. Good and sharp social theme (yep today it wouldn't surprise anyone but the artist did a very good job) All this biological remains, worms, chemical factory on background all this stuff designed in best traditions. Skunk are first one, they begin this split. I think many of you know that Dan Ryckman is playing in this band. This guy is a multi musician he plays on many instruments. And I noticed that in almost all his projects there is a footprint of the main Dan`s band - Archagathus. As for material on this release I really like the sharpness of guitar riffs. Cheerful d-beat picture and mincecore vocals all together make a really good atmosphere and mood. Also there a nice readable sound with droplets of raw rot. It`s just what you need! Let's turn the page! Hmm pretty interesting, I think it`s the heaviest release of what Existench got so far. Moreover guys just got together to drink and then just was something like "what a hell lets jam!". And what came of it you can hear on this split. I love this dirty grindcore it is absolutely straightforward and aggressive as hell! Guitar sound is slightly noisy but it doesn't affect perception of this record. And to enhance it I recomend you to do the same as Existench, take few beers and listen this shit loud!)))
