Yacøpsæ / Slight Slappers (Dead Heroes Records)

Oh guys, after all that "new wave" of powerviolence, hardcore etc, this split has become kind of like a good portion of cold beer after a hard working day for me. Both bands are well-known legends and don't need any introduction, they are loved even in the far off Nepal countrysides. But I need to know more about the photo of the cover art of this split. I suppose that the photo was taken somewhere in Africa but it reminded me a human zoo park in Belgium (yes in the 50's in "civilized Europe" there were savage people held from far off countries).

How interesting the beginning of the Germans side is... What a beautiful far east melody (in addition you can hear a pleasant sound of vinyl cracking). Here all the excess shit goes away and then without any warning these guys flood you with an unstoppable and furious fastcore stream. There is nothing new on the recording, no experiments, just good old Yacøpsæ, and as for me I like it very much. Concentrated speed, aggression, everything is traditional, and this is exactly what people wait to hear from this German powerhouse when they put the recording into the player.

Archives say that Slight Slappers have a solid and long history... There is information that these guys play powerviolence but honestly speaking it's hard to call them classical PV. All of you know very well how japanese bands differ from all others. The fury of these guys remind me of a kamikaze pilot which slays his enemies into dust by force. No matter, these guys are not very young but they can kick your ass hard enough! Ahaha! I don't know the origin of the term "Japcore" but this is exactly what Slight Slappers are playing.

What is the best way to celebrate your own 25th anniversary? Drunk party? Big cake? Nope! The best way is to record a new album! That is exactly what Yacøpsæ did! And this album is not just interesting like "new album from legends of german underground". It has a very badass idea behind! Guys ask their friends (from over the globe) to record vocals for this album. So you won't hear the same voices/screams. By the way, personaly for me the best on this record is that fact that they used children voices! Ahahaha, hell yeah! Those dirty and aggressive fastcore sounds very funny and cool with children's angel voice, hahaah!) I strongly recomended you to check Guerra song, you will love it! 25 years have passed and the boys have not lost their power I would even say the opposite... sometimes they music is even faster and meaner. I doubt that Gästezimmer will be good for beach or pajama party but it is a very good and efficient way to recharge your energy cells. I guess you can listen to this album before your work and it will replace a good cup of coffe for you!) I can't say that design on this album is special. As for the release for such anniversary there is nothing outstanding. But the booklet I barely put back in a jewel box hehehe! Here you can find photos and warm words for Yacøpsæ, from all those people that was involved on this album. There's even a Sabina Classen from old thrash band Holy Moses (and it really surprised me)!

Yacopsae & Razors (Power It Up)

It appears to be quite a task to find the right words each time I think about doing another review, but I’ll try anyway!:) 
"Hey punks! Get your worn out stuff, put on your mohawks, and let's go kick some ass!" These words wouldn't feel out of place, when you talk about this split album! It has two live records by old German punks, it should be noted that there were two versions done for this split, the CD version has rather simplier design, unlike superb execution of vinyl limited edition, I’m not exactly sure what was the reasons behind such decision, I guess it s up to guys from "Power it up". 
The split opens with very old german punk band Razors! I must admit, I haven't heard them prior to this moment. Well, sometimes it proves to be very useful to discover some previously unknown bands. These guys keep up the good vibe, you’re going to hear a tons of old school punk rock straight from the 80s. I was immediately struck with associations such as an old dank cellar club, with some obscene writings on the walls pasted with flyers and posters - a true spirit of good ol' times!!! 
However, I was really surprised when it came to their peers in Yacopsae. I got used to the fact that they play fairly fast, in fact fast enough to set a couple of towns on fire! But, here... We can observe some slow material, it is borderline sludge, little bit reminiscent of Man is the Bastard. Nevertheless, I liked it quite a lot, such a dirty yet thick sound, and it only last for 7 minutes. This length makes a material rather perfect for the listener, for it isn't very long and not boring at all!
It is also should be noted, that these performances were recorded with the soundboard, making the whole thing very audible!

Finally here is it! My long awaited split! So this release in original was on tape but here's a great news for those who had no choice but to buy it, now you can grab a vinyl version. 8 labels got together in hell circle and with all their strength they pulled out from the deepest furnaces of vinyl plant as much as 300 copies!) Mad & ugly design of front cover hide under something fast and noisy... Fuck, that was hard for me to find adapter for my turntable to listen to this record. On the one hand it is very cool that this stuff made in old style for jukebox, who once pleased our parents when they were sitting at a bar with a pint of beer. But they made a bunch of problems for me, hehe... 
So I push the red button and here we go! German armor-piercing squad put on this split 4 live tracks. All sound was recorded through soundboard, so everything sounds good, and no need to make a grimacing face. lol) Already 25 years, these guys are not giving up and they still making tours (the last of the shows was in USA by the way) Where did they get so much energy? I myself would like to know... badass trio know how to make a good punk!) On this record we can hear ultra fast songs and there we can hear some slow pieces with some groovy smell. Unfortunately all info about this release is in German, and my blockhead don't understand it :) The next band on this split is Malaysian noisy band Shitnoise Bastards. To be honest I never was a fan of their stuff. I prefer the old noisecore bands, because they made many experiments with their music and made many mad things. But here we can't hear all those what I'm talking about in previous sentence, SNB just play noisy improvisation, so I dont find it interesting. In new wave of noise (of course if I can say that) I prefer Sete Star Sept or Sedem Minut Strachu more.

Haha, personally, I was never into carnival or comparable celebrations, and I always disappointed the kids ringing at my door. Instead of giving them sweet stuff, they received a single roll of toilet paper from me. But if I have to choose a costume, I would be disguised as Michael Myers, of course.
