Rip Roaring Shit Storm Records has sent me this tape twice (first parcel was lost), as they really wanted me to hear this noise.
Obviously, I can't refuse him. So, after some short research, I found out that The Grindful Dead is a Brazilian grindcore band with deep old school roots. This tape is a re-issue of their demo, but besides the old material, I found a lot of bonus materials. This fresh tape is limited to 50 pieces and has refreshed artwork. The strange thing is, both A and B sides are almost the same; the difference is only in the last tracks. It's a weird decision, what we have have here.
Black Goat Barbecue Bash Edition is done in the Brazilian way; it's heavy and primitive (best formula in my opinion). This noise is not unique; I found a massive/monstrous influence from Napalm Death in this music. Tempos, structure even guitar sound, everything has a taste of 90's grind. The bass is either turned way down, or buzzing guitars clutter it. The death growls are alright, nothing real special. The drums are loud, but there is only one problem with the drums. The snare and cymbals are not nearly juicy enough, perhaps that's because these Brazilian grinders wanted to copy old style in full 100%... Must say it was hard to listen this album to the end, somewhere in the middle of side A it started to be boring to me.
I bet that guys tried to create something close to their idols...well this album may be able to compete with Terrorizer and Napalm Death’s hooky grind, but with less of power, atmosphere and anger.

Atomçk - Every Room In Britain
So after 3 years of silence, our English croquet players are back to us with a brand new album. Hooray! I guess the main reason why I'm so interested in these guys is their uniqueness. In some unimaginable way Atomçk were able to curb their own insanity and turn it into music. Also (of course in my own opinion) this album stands out not only with the sound side, just take a look at this cover art. Luke Oram created something really interesting… I guess it's his own view on expression of “our mind is our prison”. Well I must admit that this character and these buildings has pretty dismal atmosphere…
The album starts off with a distorted very short noisy and strange intro. The tracks that follow it are full of thrashy grindcore structures, sound, riffs and they are charged with the high energy of fast blasting hardcore. These noises sewed the seeds of madness in me, haha! As always these guys make their focus on demonic tempos and dynamic riffs (believe me, this album is rich with these things). The guitar sounds really well, its sound is not super low, but it has good crashing power. The vocals that Linus delivers sound aggressive and evil. Except for the usual “grind roaring” he uses some pretty unique kind of vocal. These short and super high screams sound so strange, haha! And of course I must note a good drummers job, he didn’t fail on any of the fast parts (I don’t know how many times he re-recorded his beats but result is really great). Every minute of “Every Room In Britain” is worth listening to.

Godhole / Crozier
These Scottish collaboration is like a little clot of rage. Behind the pretty stylish design the pretty fucked-up recording is hidden. These two modern bands show us how nicely sick englishmen can be... but lets keep things in order
Hmm, it's pretty good idea to make a noisy intro and to kick the listener just the second after. Godhole made a solid sound with the metallized accents, not bad. Hard chaotic hardcore/powerviolence shoud be certain to the taste of all modern hardcore lovers. It's full of agression and that's good. But the recording itself is rather noisy.
Crozier is something experimental, noisy and screaming. A load of effects had been layered on the record make it more interesting. Chaotic rhythm comes as and electrical impulse through the ears. The guitars have a sharp sound as in Godhole, this makes them very similar. I can't say that this is 100% my cup of tea but it was very interesting to listen. Also on the track "Anthrophobia" we can even hear a few moments of black metal.

The Mild - Left To Starve (Rip Roaring Shit Storm Records)
The Mild is a young italian band from Venice city. This tape was sent to me with request for a review. So I must say that it`s pretty short tape, there is only 6 song, but they are well recorded. I listened to these 7 minutes, and that's what I can tell... Those guys make a good mix between hardcore and metal. Now it became very popular to play something like that (but I do not want to say that the guys are chasing fashion). I dont understand why they tagged their songs with grindcore and powerviolence because in fact there is nothing like that... I don't want to offend anyone but fucking why almost all new bands tag they works with grindcore/pv wtf? Yep I can definitely say they have very good fast aggressive songs with good screaming vocal.. all that sounds pretty good (especially pieces with d-beat) but it hasn't got any effect on me...
Separately it is worth mentioning the design of this cassette. It has very nice art, there is all what you need for this kind of music, all those skulls and and dead Bambi...and minimalism in colors.

Atomçk – Never Work (Rip Roaring Shit Storm Records)
I've already lost count of how many times I said that the British people are extremely mad and resourceful in musical matters. British bands are very special and therefore they don't usually have lots of fans. That Atomçk, for example, is definitely not for everyone. The guys from South Wales play very specific music. I do not know what lives in their heads, but it's just very sick and evil. Guys break all possible limits, and they successfully mix sludge, grind, stoner, black metal and, of course, noise in their tracks. The theme of their songs is very social. Cover art is appropriate, these riots and protests, fucking redneck cops and more, but all this shit, according to the name of the album, never work(s). The power of the human passion for freedom can not be stopped.
It all starts with a nice melodic stoner rock, somehow you do not suspect what kind of fucked up shit is waiting for you. Somewhere only in the middle of the first song it becomes clear what to expect next. By the way, rather strange, but most of the songs on this album last no more than a minute. After the first track, the guys are already on full speed and do not stop until the end. They kick your ass with fast and aggressive deathgrind with a bunch of stylish inserts. It's nice that the guys use a lot of different vocals. Ultra-high hysterical, sometimes raucous scream, a bit of growl. Those bits of hysterical vocals add some crazy atmosphere. Incidentally, after the main part, there is a nice bonus in the form of Live records.
