SOOM - Джєбарс (Robustfellow)

Sometimes, just sometimes, I feel the need for slow, hellish music. Sometimes, I just want to hear something that is viciously callous and devastating. Thankfully, noise-terrorists SOOM recently released their second album Джєбарс, to be honest I expect a lot from this
full length...
Chief of the Robustfellow label gave me this tape for review. I must say, I was really surprised with its looks and design. This is some truly nerdy stuff; the colors, the form, the way the whole hardcover connected - it's really something. All polygraphy was made in Ukraine but the tapes were made and recorded in the UK. The quality of this sound just paralyzed me, haha! To be honest, I've seen SOOM live about 5 times and and they touched me only once, at the really first time with old line up, that was a show in small dirty bar, but the atmosphere and sound were amazing. Unfortunately all next times when I saw them, they had no effect on me. But I really dig their first album and hopefully “Джєбарс” is cool too…

This albums begins with long, heavy and slow intro… the whole first song is just an intro. “Вщент” is the first thing with real riffs and suffocating sound. I do not know how this tape was recorded (maybe it was done with some help from demons or something) but it sounds monstrous - my speakers go crazy with all these vibrations. SOOM produce low hypnotic tunes that could scare you. This pleasant heaviness slowly envelops you and than crushes you. Most of these songs are full of classical sludge/doom/drone elements. But that doesn't mean that this noise is a clone of famous bands. These dope-smokers have their own way, with their own specific tunes and theme of ancient magical molphars (it's something like pagan wizards). I also found a lot of noise and psychedelic experiments on this piece, guys didn`t limit themselves in music creation and that is very best.

“Джєбарс” is that mix of confusion and joy that comes from saying, "What on earth is this?" then moving to "Whatever this is, it rules!"

Krupskaya (09.02.18)

Hi brothers! How are you guys? Hope that you packed a few fresh pair of pants for your small journey
Alex: Absolutely! The washing machine is on, the set is sounding tight – really looking forward to it.
Riley: Besides a short stint across the UK with my old band some twelve years ago, I’ve never actually been on tour, so it’s a bit of a strange mix between excitement and nerves at the moment.
Matt: To be honest, there's been a few details of the tour that have caused a bit more stress than usual. But now everything’s sorted and it’s just around the corner, I can't wait to start... fresh pants have been the least of our worries!
Ed: None of my pants are fresh.
Matt: I spoke too soon.

Noise - Demo Tapes 1991-1995 LP (SPHC)

I`m sure that many of tje noise freaks were very excited when they heard news about this release. This LP is like one old time bomb which contains some pretty rare stuff (here you may find the first 5 demo tape of Noise the band). These tapes were released at the beginning of 90's , all of them were made in a totally diy way (self-recorded and self-released). Well in my opinion those early years were the dawn for many of the extreme and harsh genres, whether metal or noise, punk or grind. By the way one of the most active epicenters of the Noise infection was Brazil… 25 years ago there were a lot of great (unfortunately most of them pretty unknown) and powerful Noisecore bands. The Noise band (which is still alive) were especially good. I really like these short songs, they are simple, they are loud but not ugly and stupid at all… They immerse you into the atmosphere of underground madness. It's like I opened my own eyes and found myself in a painted old cellar, where among old car tires and mold are standing old musical equipment and guys are making some noises. Their noises are replete with aggressive energy and insanity. Bright drumming, raw guitar sounds (which are like one big dirty mess) and also those endless streams of screams and yelling. Strange but, all this obscurity has no boring effect, you will want to listen to this stuff again and again. And for the very end, here is few words about the technical side of this discography. All records were remastered, I think it's some kind of miracle that we managed to keep these records. The design of this LP is consistent of many old band photos and of demo tape covers (so everything looks very old). Rating: 8/10

Beelzebeat - Mondo Trasho Or A Strange Walk On The Filthy Side

Maybe for someone this review will be something like an offtop but I can't keep a silence hahaha! The Beelzebeats are really strange band, why? That because guys mix psyhobilly, grindcore and rock n roll! I guess many of hard grind and psychobilly fans don't like them "because it`s a boolshit not a grind/psycho" hahaha, but fuck them. This groovy music overcrowded with mad swing energy. If the names "Gore Beyond Necropsy", "Noise a Go Go`s", "Penis Vibrator" are not the empty sound for you then you will definitely love "Mondo Trasho Or A Strange Walk On The Filthy Side". So let's start our research work with a cover. Artist who made this was 100% stonnneeed, hahaha! A red demon who climbs from turkeys ass... what can I say? It`s really and truly madness and big folly!) This music can turn you on with a first song! This album full of good rolling rhythms. The Contrabass sound so angry and so loud that makes me dance!) But this songs dont sounds like typical psycho or rock'n'roll, all they are a little bit dirty and raw and that make them better. Yelling and roaring vocals, also small balst beats parts all of them unite in a bizarre mash. All song full of dirty and nasty and stupid themes, Beelzebeats make a fun of many things. Maybe this album will be no too fast or not too dirty for someone but this album will 100% leave a smile on your faces.

Fuck, Bud! - demo (self release)

What is the most primitive thing that you have heard? I'm sure that the duo Fuck, Bud! Will surprise you! If anybody remembers Finnish guys from the Ramin Kuntopolku, these two Canadian-American psychos sound more primitive than they are ahaha! But the primitivism here does not mean something bad... this raw and stupid noise is pretty funny. Close in the basement, Neal (Truth of All Death) and Ben (Cephalophore), recorded a small tape in their own pleasure. You can hear how the guys fool around, are trying to create different rhythms, and fool around again. And it seems that the recording was made just on simple Dictaphone , ahaha!) I am sure that this small release was written just for fun, and I guess the whole idea was born (and likely) while some strong drinking party... and I can truly say that this joke had a success ;)

Prisoner 639 / StevexJobs

The first thing that caught my attention in this release is a photo on the cover. Hell, I've seen a lot of things but such action I see for the first time. I do not know what kind of sick mind could come up with to harness the hippo in the wagon. Ahah, weird stuff))) On this split you will find a confluence of two strange powerful violence bands from Belgium and Argentina. Perhaps I'll start from the Prisoner 639. With using only bass and drums the music of these guys that sounds very hard and noisy. Their powerful violence quite primitive and very aggressive, some kind of cavemen music spiced with different noises. In their songs it feels great the low gutter bass that makes an excellent shake to the brain. Usually, it is a typical for such genre tempo changing, as well as a bit chaotic madness. There are some songs of normal length and very short one that more closely resemble to noise-core. In general, it is a very pleasant noisy-powerful violence.

If I'm not mistaken, StevexJobs - it is the first Argentine band that I got for reviews. In contrast to Belgians, these guys use a guitar although it really sounds quite dry...but it is full of mindless and enjoyable experiments such as some punk rock and hard rock moments (as in the song Rol), ahah) All tracks sounds cheerful and a little bit unusual and it is very amusing.

Misanthropic Ignorance!

Misanthropic Ignorance was started primarily to release my own band's releases along with my friends projects. The label has been primarily used to for grindcore, goregrind, noisecore, harsh noise, dark ambient, and black metal projects. At this point the releasing has halted for the most part but will continue to release works from time to time. The store includes distro items, label releases, and personal collection items. (The label is ran by Kyle from Couple Skate)

Next release is that of a live PIZZAHIFIVE tape including a soundboard recording from their set at the Agathocles show in Cleveland 2016. This will be coreleased between MI, Feel Good Grind, and Haunted Hotel.

Discophobia / Slecht ‎(Vleesklak Records)

It's impossible to release only good stuff all the time, something messy and shitty can always happen. After listening to this material I understood that this split is one of the worst Vleesklak Records releases. I never heard these bands before so I didnt expect nothing speсial from them... but I still would like to ask one big question "why would someone release something like that on vinyl?"... Discophobia - if I understand correctly it`s one more project from belgian maniac who`s standing behind VRV band. Honestly I have tried to listen to that stuff but I havent found any interesting for myself. It sounds pretty boring. Just some incomprehensible mixture of black metal and goregrind with drum machine noise... Slecht - one more belgian band and for this time it`s just pure black metal. But it`s not interesting too. Mostly it`s the same boring thing as Discophobia and I didnt like them too. In my opinion this release does not merit the cost that was spent on it ... would be better to release it on some diy tape.
