3 way noise madness! More info soon!

Agathocles / Cum Sock (Vleesklak Rec)

Who said noise? Who wants some? Join us, because today we will listen one short and dirty split and, let's be honest there's only 1 proper way to do so. Turn the volume up full blast. Yes, it`s Agathocles, if you haven't heard of them yet, then you must have been living in a monastery. This time the Belgian maniacs cooperated with the Canadian Noisecore psychos from Cum Sock. 1 spin and AG is vomiting from my speakers! These raw songs smashed me with a powerful flow. 12 short tracks with a recognizable style and messy buzzing sound, that's what you will find here. This material is definitely not the best stuff to come from AG. The songs feel old and sound a bit dry. But, I will admit, this noise did give me a good portion of enjoyment nonetheless. Wow, Cum Sock's side of the split is ridiculously loud, haha! This material is what I call pure fun. There is a lot of cheesy structures/riffs, they clearly had fun during this recording. I find that is very important because if you don't enjoy your stuff, you will never record a good song, EP, or album. I even caught some influences from Anal Cunt in this “music”, haha. Of course there are dirty punk roots in Cum Sock's noise. Chaotic, stupid, loud, goofy. That's how I can describe this noise. Rating: Agathocles 7/10 Cum Sock: 7.5 / 10

Chepang - Barriga De Verme

Before we get started with the review of this release, I think it's really important that we talk about Chepang as a group first. Chepang is definitely one of the more interesting (if not the most, if we're honest) grindcore bands out there at the moment. What really captures most people's attention is the fact that they use two drummers. It's pretty fucking insane to see two maniacs blasting at the same time and to do it perfectly; unfortunately, this is where most people's understanding of the group stops. Yeah, it's goddamn impressive to have more drummers than guitar players in a band, but I find the most interesting part of Chepang to be that it's not really a band... it's really a collective of musicians that rotate in and out of playing. Because of this, Chepang has presented themselves in many ways - as a 3 piece, 4 piece, 5 piece; so on and so forth. The collective whole of Chepang is what makes BARRIGA DE VERME really interesting; 12 different musicians are present on this recording. 3 guitar players, 1 WARR guitar, 2 people on noise, an organ, 3 drummers, and 2 vocalists (4 if you count the guys on double-duty). Even more interesting to me is the whole philosophy that went into this record - "Choosing an extreme path but without interfering with anyone. Absolute chaos but in harmony. This was the main idea we imagined when we decided to do this project. Challenge here was not to be technically proficient and create a masterpiece but to liberate your mind and be yourself." And damn, did they stick to that. But we'll get to that in a sec - let's talk about the physical record itself. I was able to snag a copy of this limited run of 100, printed on 180 gram black vinyl. I love the art too - it's simple in the sense that it's just piles and piles of maggots and a face, but when you take a good look at it, there are hundreds of them on either side of the record, and it's a really cool piece to look at. There are no frills - no track lists, no credits - no nothing. Just...maggots. Inside there's a liner that has some additional artwork on it as well as the credits and the message and such. So after the record stopped spinning, I had one thought - "What the fuck did I just listen to?". But, this is not a negative reaction. I was truly kind of confused, but also totally blown away. These guys really took their mission (that I note above) and went for it. The record starts out with a solid 5 mintues or so of noise until the drums kick in, and when they do, things start getting crazy. It becomes a chaotic mess of noise and drums, and once that picks up, it doesn't stop until we're greeted with an acoustic guitar track that breaks everything up. It's a peaceful sounding track, which is definitely necessary for what happens next. Following this track, we get a nearly 20 minute long track of absolute fucking chaos. Once the blast kicks in, it's total mayhem until the end. There's ripping guitars, all kinds of crazy vocals, insane drumming - it's an absolute mindfuck. Listen - I love this record. I find it to be really innovative and unique, as well as being a pinnacle of of what grindcore should be - true self expresssion without giving a fuck about music theory or other peoples expectations. They took a concept and ran with it, and they executed it flawlessly. Do yourself a favor and go listen to this. There's a reason Chepang exploded, and I truly hope they keep innovating. Sete Star Sept - Revision Of Noise (Fuck Yoga Records)

Tokyo's barbaric squad Sete Star Sept has been a widely revered band from the get-go, receiving love from many people in grindcore and noise families, and has become a duly noted noise force of abnormal nature since their debut in 2004. With an endless touring schedule having them trek through the USA, all of Asia, Europe, and Russia there has been a lingering wonder in my mind where the hell they managed to find time to write and record all these records? That is true insanity! This band is very active and their discography is huge (during 2018 they've had ten releases), but back in 2010 these maniacs had released a very interesting and magical album, “Revision Of Noise”. This is a remarkable and bright piece of work... this album has structures and guitar! Obviously, this 15 minutes differs from what they're doing now. The formula of this piece is deadly simple: put some intensive power, don't forget to add blasting drums and noisy, messy sound and viola! You have a sharp and aggressive beast. The guitar here is especially good, bespecially at slow moments. Savage screams add a special atmosphere of a loony bin, haha! "Revision Of Noise" is primitive aggression, and it's also a fantastic example of a not-regular noise release. You will find a lot of punchy riffs and massive sound pressure. And yeah, this album sounds almost like grindcore, so this release will be interesting for grind freaks too. Rating: 8/10 Sete Star Sept fb

Final Exit / Sedem Minut Strachu (SPHC Records)

It`s very hard to review Noise releases, during the years I have not had the chance to meet many of the original and interesting Noise bands. But, this 7” is one of those special and catchy releases. We have here Final Exit from Japan and Sedem Minut Strachu from Slovakia. Noise lovers must know both of them; they are pretty unique and original. SPHC Records (located in USA) released this noise in vinyl format. This lovely colored vinyl is hiding a very high dose of Noise, so be careful and be sure to put the volume on maximum!
I want to start with side A. Japanese legends Final Exit didn't disappoint me. Their diverse Noise cheers me up; this material can be compared to a digital Frankenstein. So many different styles are stitched together. Same with the tempos… fast, crazy and blasting parts are perfectly balanced with slow, acoustic parts. I guess this mess could blow up the heads of fans of modern rap or pop music, but I found this noise very enjoyable.
My old Slovakian friends managed to make something very strange and funny. Their side is dedicated to Cliff Burton; also they have used a few riffs from a famous Metallica song. That sounds pretty fresh in the mix with their brand of Noise. But unfortunately this experiment didn't touch me…
Rating: Final Exit 8/10    SedemMinut Strachu 7/10
