Endless Swarm – Imprisoned in Skin (Mind Ripper Collective)

We have a very special treat for everyone today. We are here to review the brand new album from Scotland’s finest Grindviolence Quartet Endless Swarm! Imprisoned in Skin is their first LP and it is an absolute monster! 19 tracks of blistering, filthy, ungodly fury that is sure to please! Let’s kick this adventure off by taking the time to drink in the cover art. We see depicted here, what appears to be a human head that has been split open, and contains some kind of parasitic worm that has taken full control of its host. It is a truly captivating piece of art to say the least.

Now, I know you aren’t all here to discuss the artwork; you came here with a much more specific purpose. You wanna read a review of this sweet new full length album right? Well then, let’s dive into this beast. This album wastes absolutely no time punching you square in the face, the opening track Ether hits so fast and furiously that you almost feel like you’ve been knocked off your feet. Each song feels more disastrous and gritty than the last, holding nothing back. The 57 second banger that is Corrosive Matter is another stand out track, filled with both Groove and relentless blasts sure to satisfy even the most Grind hungry freaks and geeks. P.T.M. also sticks out to me, but for a much different purpose. It is the only song to exceed the 2 minute mark, and it is just flat out heavy. You can feel the weight of this song in your bones. Then there is Grief, it opens with speed and aggression only to give way to a short groove piece that breaks right back into fury and rage in a seamless fashion. And to close things out for this album we have Glos Pana, and for a final track it is a beast like no other. You are met with Unearthly Grunts that give way to hard hitting Chainsaw riffs and cannon blasts from the kit. This is by far the meanest song you will encounter on this record to say the least. All in all, this is easily the best work the lads of Endless Swarm have birthed into this world. It contains the stench of Grind, the primal emotions of Powerviolence, and a tiny pinch of Punk attitude to create a goulash of musical prowess.

Insufferable - Survival (Fermented Bile Vomit Productions)

Insufferable is a double masked attack from Scotland... These dudes love to hide their faces and they also don't like music. That's probably why they started to ruin everything around them with harsh noisegrind, hehe. So let's dive into this smelly swamp of noise and let's try to survive! The EP is very aggressive, with short and fast songs and tons of low painful sounds. Crashing guitar makes that mess more malicious and even denser. I love that the whole sound is pretty clean, it seems like you're listening grindcore instead of noise. These primitive riffs and blasting drums.... mmmm... god damn that shit is strong! I really feel that these guys put all their madness and energy into these songs. These 18 songs are a good cure for a hangover (believe me while I'm writing these words my head is trying to blow up, hahah). It's also great that Insufferable are "alive" band, I mean they don't use a drum machine or other electronic equipment. It seems like the vocalist is gonna spit out his guts while he yelling, that was really honest and, I guess, pretty painful to do, and I really appreciate that, that guys is mad for sure!

Concussive / Endless Swarm

Pain. This is the word that comes to my mind when I look at this cover. The artist manadged to pick some really provokative and horrible pictures. There is everything there: diseases, tortures, experiments on people and animals. Creepy art - that's what I say... Fortunately the music is not as creepy and horrible as the cover itself :) Two bands from two different places meet up on one small but beautiful piece of plastic. Both bands advocate powerviolence, but each of them do it in their own way.

Concussive - California/USA. Excellent example of the new wave of powerviolence. These guys have the spirit of old school. Concussive play fast and agressive, so fast they managed to squeeze 5 tracks in 2 minutes, hehe!) Their raw sound is pretty nice. The sound like this is very appropriate for this genre (for example if you record the same material with clean quality sound it will sound like shit). Also, there is no big difference in the tempo of the songs, guys decided in favor of the insane presentation and speed and that was a right decision!

Endless Swarm - Edinburgh city/Scotland. One of a few scottish bands. They don't wear kilts like their ancestors but trust me, these guys could kick anyone's ass, hahaha!) They differ from their colleagues Endless Swarm by the solidity of sound first of all (this is because guys add some grind into their violence). Tempos differ from mid to hell fast that makes it sound very pleasing to the ear. And Graham's vocals reminded me of good old Apartment 213 and Spazz.
