Jack / Meth Leppard (Grey Water Collective)

Summer of 2017 was rather eventful for Aussie Grinders Meth Leppard. From touring the US and playing both Maryland Death Fest as well as Summergrind Fest. To releasing this monster split we present to you today! And they are joined by one of Hungary's finest Grind acts, the mighty Jack! The front cover of this masterpiece depicts an almost zombie like Crust punk with his dog standing at a stop light on the corner of Eat Shit Boulevard and Die Avenue as a city crumbles behind in chaos and fire behind him. Starting things off with the Jack side of the split, we don't have to even wait to be beaten to a bloody pulp. No audio samples, just straight forward gut punching Grindcore from front to back. These 4 gents really know what any true Grind fanatic would want served up to them steaming on a platter. The combination of low growling yells and shrill pissed off screams meld perfectly and balance one another out. To say that Jack are anything short of amazing is underestimating them. Now, here's a band I'm sure many if not all of you are familiar with. The finest 2 Piece Grind and a Biscuit combo to come from Oz, Meth Leppard! Starting things off a little bit different from their counterparts, we are greeted with an audio clip of a young man speaking in Spanish, possibly reciting a poem? Then like a flash from an atomic bomb we are hit in the teeth with full frontal Grindcore! The Meth Leppard boys sure know how to make me wanna mosh even by myself as I sit here writing this. Every song from both sides of this split resonate well and the feelings of pure aggression and rage will not subside in you for some time. So be prepared to just be on a Grindcore binge once you've heard this split. Rating: 8/10 Meth Leppard fb Jack fb

Ape Unit/Horsebastard

This split was released earlier in 2017, and what an absolute monster it is! Italian simian madness Ape Unit wanted to join forces with the UK's finest Equestrian blast factory, and boy did they deliver! Just starting with the cover art alone you're immediately intrigued. Depicting a Half Horse Human Hybrid and a Chimpanzee at a table loaded with drugs, food and booze on a background of psychidelic colors and patterns. On to what we are really here for, the music! Starting with the superbly named Apey side of the split we are greeted with eerie riffs and pounding drums, only to have it shift pace 8 seconds later and turn into a groovy blastbeat party with strange riffs and menacing vocals to top it off. The onslaught only continues from here. With hilarious song titles like Herbalife After Death and, Between the Burger and Me. This raucous group of Ape loving fiends are sure to please! And of course who can forget Horsebastard? Starting up the horsey side we are greeted with a slowed down and distorted recording of what sounds like someone having really bad drug trip and freaking out. And then we get turned on our head and sandpaper crammed in our ears with the blistering fury of a 100 stallions. Delivering punishing blow after punishing blow, Horsebastard are relentless to say the absolute least. And much like their Italian counterparts in this release they feed us some humorous song titles from the intro track Catastrophic Sobriety to the properly fitting Nostrils Engage. They are the complete package for anyone wishing to have their ears put to death.

Hack Job - Demo

A good friend of mine advised I listen to this demo tape and that’s how this review was born. Obviously Hack Job is a 100% new name for me… So I started to dig for some info about them. This band is located in the UK, they started just few years ago. They released a demo and one split (with Hooked on Christ), and of course they have done a lot of gigs. And I can tell many other things about them but let’s concentrate on this small tape. 11 tracks are hidden behind a simple cover (as you can see it's only a logo and one word). But this modest shell is just a cover for yelling fast madness. In these songs you will find the good spirit of extreme punk. Hack Job are a trio which can smash you with their music. These bastards find a great formula and balance for fastcore, hardcore, noise and punk. It`s hard to believe that just a simple tape can accommodate so much crazy energy! I must admit great riffs and good drum work. Fast rhythms and cool sound burn and force you to jump and crush everything, hahaha! There is so much great live energy (and personally for me it's very important in music). Also in my opinion the yelling and angry vocals make this record even more wild.
