Gorenoise is definitely not a place for cowards. The split I'm about to review will explain why. We have here two very nasty and heavy projects. Cystgurgle (Thailand) and Vomitoma (USA) have prepared for you a ton of filthy and harsh material. The sounds of sonic vomit will smash and melt you down, but on the other hand this tape is full of fun!
I want start with the first name on this split, the duo Cystgurgle. My aquaintance with this act started with their 7” Regurgitant Slurp Of Mashed Embryo, I was really surprised with their massive and dirty sound and monstrous bass guitar sound. However, this material is something different. The whole concept is more borderline Gorenoise, everything is very dirty and noisy. Bass riffs have turned in some kind of mess, so its function more like background sound. The main thing that you will hear (and what will damage your hearing) is the snare sound. It's ridiculously loud and has high ringing sound. Second thing is the vocals, distorted and horrible these vocals are the audible variant of vomit stench. I must say I really dig this new Cystgurgle.
The second band is a legendary one man machine, Vomitoma. Raw, liquid, putrid sound that slowly begins eating you… That's how I can describe this shit, ha! God damn, these pitch shifted vocals sound really loud and dreadful (btw, that is a mainstay here). I like the bass too, I can almost recognize some of the riffs. Here's one small but, very worthwhile addition. Live drums that were recorded by Adrian (Putrefuck). The blastbeats are a bit punky and goofy but they combine very well with the vocals. Only the last song has super annoying drum-machine that drills your head like crazy. That track was really the last nail in the coffin of cowards, haha!

Smallpox Aroma - Repulsive Pleasures (Hotel Broslin)
It was a pretty dark morning I was sleeping but my dreams were violently interrupted. My postman rang the fucking doorbell… That was the origin of the problem. He gave me a package and then he leaves me with this small box and a bad mood. I recognize the address, this parcel was sent by a young Australian label, Hotel Broslin. I take a big knife and opened the box. And there I found a new tape of Smallpox Aroma. I thought that a lucky case of destiny has just chosen a good release for review. But, before we begin I want to write few words about this band, because I'm sure that many of you don't know who they are. Well this a pretty exotic band for us, they are located in Thailand (the land of ancient mysteries and drunk Russian tourists). Our Asian friends started their way in 2006 (more than 10 years ago!). From the very beginning they played some kind of brutal death metal but then they changed their genre. During these years guys proved they are not lazy asses, thay`ve taken part in scores of compilations and splits, they've recorded a ton of nasty songs. The last their record was released in 2017 and we will talk about it right now.
It’s nasty, it’s brutal, it’s negative, and it’s Smallpox Aroma. All these songs can be compared to the alien monster from “The Thing”. Do you remember that bloody mess monster with dogs parts? Here it's almost the same but with different genres. Guys started with something brutal, then switched to something gorey. But that's not all there is a lot crust and hardcore elements exist in their music too. And all of these sound really fresh and interesting. Buzzing riffs in combination with fast blasting and different vocals, created something unusual (at least for me). Powerful sound of bass guitar and the painful sound of cymbals could really crush the bones! Hard to say clearly what type of fans this was meant for, but if you like unusual brutal music, you should check out this record!
PS: The sound of this tape is damn good, it`s always a pleasure to listen a well recorded tape.

Smallpox Aroma - Collection of Vivisection
Thailand is a country sort of shrouded in mystery when it comes to Grind and other extreme genres of music. Hailing from Bangkok,Thailand Smallpox Aroma bring us a bone splintering dose of Goregrind and Grindcore. This release features 70 tracks from across their discography. The cover art is very simple and doesn't distract you too much from the real artistry. Depicting a human head swarming with maggots and insect larvae. Now let's dig into the massive feast laid before us. I must admit it's definitely odd to hear Smallpox Aroma with a drum program/drum machine after being so adjusted to their sound with real drums. The first few songs are less Grind and more of a Brutal Death Metal/Slam feel. Which isn't horrible because they still manage to mix in Grind elements throughout. Once the real Goregrind/Grindcore fury kicks in it is just endless. Gurgling putrid grunts, bone chilling shrieks, chainsaw riffs and pinging to high hell drums! The tempo never seems to hit a lull, constantly feeding your aural receptors into a woodchipper. The raw energy and aggression shown on this compiled release prove this band is a force unlike most others. Several times throughout this album I wanted to get up and dance because the groove was so thick. Other times I wanted to rip someone apart in a mosh pit.
To say this album doesn't have a bit of everything for Gore fans, is saying Thailand has no extreme music.

Smallpox Aroma - Collection of Vivisection!
A 70-song compilation album featuring the tracks from the 6 previously released splits recorded between 2006-2011. Back to the old days when they still played some mix of majorly goregrind and minorly grindcore. Disgusting grunts, sharp shrieks, chunky riffs, punky riffs, grooves, and blastbeats.

Cystgurgle (15.08.17)
Hey Polwach, thanks for taking the
time out of your schedule to do this interview with Good Guys Go Grind.
What’s up Shawn/GGGG. My pleasures man. Go for
it.
Some of us are curious, what was it
exactly that peaked your interest about drumming?
Well, I started listening to rock and extreme
music when I was like 13-14 and the drums attracted me the most. From that
point I started to learn drumming. I remembered when I first listened to
Diabolis Interium by Dark Funeral and was amazed on how fast that shit was.
