Smallpox Aroma - Repulsive Pleasures (Hotel Broslin)

It was a pretty dark morning I was sleeping but my dreams were violently interrupted. My postman rang the fucking doorbell… That was the origin of the problem. He gave me a package and then he leaves me with this small box and a bad mood. I recognize the address, this parcel was sent by a young Australian label, Hotel Broslin. I take a big knife and opened the box. And there I found a new tape of Smallpox Aroma. I thought that a lucky case of destiny has just chosen a good release for review. But, before we begin I want to write few words about this band, because I'm sure that many of you don't know who they are. Well this a pretty exotic band for us, they are located in Thailand (the land of ancient mysteries and drunk Russian tourists). Our Asian friends started their way in 2006 (more than 10 years ago!). From the very beginning they played some kind of brutal death metal but then they changed their genre. During these years guys proved they are not lazy asses, thay`ve taken part in scores of compilations and splits, they've recorded a ton of nasty songs. The last their record was released in 2017 and we will talk about it right now. It’s nasty, it’s brutal, it’s negative, and it’s Smallpox Aroma. All these songs can be compared to the alien monster from “The Thing”. Do you remember that bloody mess monster with dogs parts? Here it's almost the same but with different genres. Guys started with something brutal, then switched to something gorey. But that's not all there is a lot crust and hardcore elements exist in their music too. And all of these sound really fresh and interesting. Buzzing riffs in combination with fast blasting and different vocals, created something unusual (at least for me). Powerful sound of bass guitar and the painful sound of cymbals could really crush the bones! Hard to say clearly what type of fans this was meant for, but if you like unusual brutal music, you should check out this record! Little Puppy Princess - Anti Scum Human (Hotel Broslin Records)

I`m pretty worried about people is South Korea, it seems that they have caught a strong and powerful Grind virus. For just few years their local Grind underground has grown up. And I'm really happy with that, because now we have more great Grind bands in our small family. So today we will speak about the latest release of Little Puppy Princess. This mad trio started only a few short years ago, but a few months ago they visited Australia on tour (and that was impressive). Our friends made some positive changes… They've grown up and they're mutilating the dead with some wicked old school Grindcore. This has heavy effect on their sound and riffs (we will talk about that a little bit later) and that also has effecte on their art. Just look at this collage! Okay I can can agree with the fact that is not unique, but this one looks badass! This one was made in 100% Grindcore fashion.
So “Anti Scum Human” is receptacle for being 10 very fast, dirty, short and good songs. As I said before, the sound has changed, now it's more clear, maybe even heavier… Song structures have become more rigid and direct. The guys are trying their best, they shoot you in a barrage song by song. They don't want to give you time to breathe or time to open your beer. And I must admit that they sound even more aggressive now than ever. I like how this guitar sounds, it's still a little bit messy but now its full of buzzing energy. The same can be said about the drums, now these beats sounds more confident and more powerful. So in the end I can only add that I'm really happy to see and hear these positive changes in this band. Napalm Death Is Dead / Facepalm Death (Hotel Broslin)

Japan vs USA. Again? Yes my friends, that is right. This split tape is like a horrible soundtrack for Pearl Harbor. Both bands are making fun of Napalm Death (judging by their names) and both of them are playing harsh Noisecore. All this strange hellish sound mess is packed in a small diy tape with Godzilla on the cover art. Japanese duo Napalm Death Is Dead sound very weird. It all starts with strange noise that sounds like someone is beating a stone against a stone. Then these guys bit by bit add some sort of harsh noise (I guess that is super distorted bass guitar sound). That wall of noise can make serious damage to your ears. I can't say that that was the best noise in my life, but I must admit that shit sounds pretty memorable. Mess from USA duo sounds experimental. They used a drum machine and that device makes annoying noises (my ears have suffered a lot from that evil buzzing box). Also these guys used many different sounds of everything (like car horn, screams, some samples from hip hop music and much more). And yes, these few minutes have pretty dirty, low quality sound. For me this noise sounds very regular, unfortunately this side has no catchy moment… Rating: 6/10 NxDxIxDx fb

Undinism ‎– Untitled (Hotel Broslin)

Hell yeah! You can say whatever you want but this shit is really cool! It`s only the first release of young australian label Hotel Broslin and it is already so tight! I have no idea where and how they found those rare Undinism records, but I am really happy that they are not lost and now everyone can get & listen this stuff. This band gave a good punch for australian underground scene and I really respect and love those guys for that. A very notable photo was chosen for the cover. The man on this photo has a very ugly and horrible pathology and it looks really filthy. Records on both sides is not divided into tracks. Each side has its own rehearsal record (both were made in '93!) Of course sound here is dirty and noisy, plus it is damaged... but what can you expect from very old tapes that were hidden in someone's garage for 20 years?) Sound was shaped to listenable state, cleaned up as best as they could and results are pretty nice. This release reminded me of that old tape stuff from 90th splits and demos with horrible sound, but for that time it was great and many freaks loved that. Hm... even now I like that sort of noise. Despite the old record, guys were playing great original stuff with true passion. There is no usual blastbeats or ultraspeed. Guitar riffs have big portion of metal structure and sound... but this is what we call now old school grindcore (like Terroriser or Napalm Death but of course Undinism doesn't look like them). By the way, the tape was released in limited edition (only 111 hand numbered copies), so hurry up don't miss this tape)))
