Faršas / Whoresnation (Deaf Death Husky Records)

I bet the idea of this split was born before the tour of Faršas and Whoresnation. Anyway this collaboration is tight as hell, together these bands generate pure and killer noise! So first of all let's look at this tape and you know what? It's freaking green! My favorite color, haha! I don't know who, but someone did a nice job with all the designing. A combination of green tape and nasty cover art are creating wizardly look. This atomic green split hosts 28 toxic songs of varying Grindcore madness. Needless to say this release is also interesting because both bands are absolutely different. So now let's check out the noise. First on the line is the squad from Lithuania. I must say that this band is underestimated, but we will try to fix that. First of all, our friends have a unique sound and style, they use no guitars, only super distorted bass guitar. Be careful because its deep buzzing sound will grind you down. The second feature is the vocals. They sound so strange, aggressive and annoying, haha. It reminds me of Anal Cunt's style. But, what is Grindcore without blast beats? That's right we have here nice, punky, blasting drums which perfectly fits with this music. Grindcore is the main base in Faršas noise, but I noticed tighny Powerviolence and Hardcore influences in this crazy mess (that makes this Grind more spicy). Whoresnation is a good example of new age Grindcore, they didn`t stop on only Grindcore, they are using Hardcore, Metal and some Punk elements. Their side was recorded at a gig in Torvi in Lahti, Finland. Yes it's a live recording but in spite of it, it sounds pretty nice. At the beginning of this tape, Pierre talks to the audience like a real black metal man, with gravelly and ugly screams, haha! After that,the guys turned into a twister. Song by song, these bastards are torturing our ears with their ferocious Grind. Hard to handle this hurricane of riffs and blast beats. Unfortunately the guitar sound is a little bit cluttered by the vocals and drums (it's a sad part of this live recording). That raw blasting sounds especially good here when I hear every single bit of the snare and thunderous screams of the cymbals. I bet that Whoresnation kicked asses on that gig, ha! I'm sure that this split is already rare, so if you find this piece in someones distro, act fast or cry later. Rating: Faršas: 8/10 Whoresnation: 7.5/10

Coming from Vilnius, Lithuania, (North-East Europe), where not many grind bands come from... FARŠAS (Lithuanian for "ground meat"), a bass fronted, grindcore trio inspired by and developed from many years of participation in various goregrind, metal, hc/punk, grindcore, noise etc. projects. Formed in late 2009 FARŠAS comes as a fresh outlook and raw sound representing todays Lithuanian current hot topics and overall scene with classic super-fast grindcore inspired by the best... and not necessarily well known! Now on a brink of new full length album, stay tuned to hear more from the honest breed of the northern slums.

Faršas - Kažkaiptai Nejuokinga (Epileptic Media)

"Hello, do you have a minute to talk about our God - grindcore?" Oh, I've been waiting for this release for so long. Their previous album Bėdų Turgus got me really hooked! And the time has come and finally Epileptic Media showed us a photo with a ready-to-go release! Of course, I got this tape in my possession after a while. For starters, let's disappoint a bit those who expected the same Faršas as we heard last year. Kažkaiptai Nejuokinga is different in many things, different song style, such as the sound, the bass here sounds more like guitar. Overall it's more like traditional grindcore that sometimes takes some fastcore/powerviolence tropes, no mincecore influence, but "Seth Putnam"-styled vocal is still here :) 
I listened to these 20 songs for 5 times or so, and without a doubt Faršas deserves to be noticed. This is a true killer grindcore with an outstanding blasbeats, awesome bass sound and overwhelming screams (with some pitch-shifters here and there). And one of the most noticeable songs on this release is Georgijaus juostelė, as I've been informed by band's members, it's about foolish fanatics of USSR system (by the way, it is performed in crust-punk manner). Also I would like to note a great cover on "Cool Guy" by legendary Spazz, well performed, to say the least, Chris Dodge and Max Ward would definitely approve this :)
Add a pleasing eye artwork and vinous-black desing of the tape to all that mentioned above and you got yourself a release worth having a place in your collection.

Hi, amigo! Well, you’ve finally been caught in the net of our blog, hehe) 

Hey! Thanks for the opportunity, it's great being in the same net with some big sharks!

You belong to the minority of bands that play music without guitars. How did you come up with this idea? Maybe you haven’t found guitar player or because of some other reasons? 

I think we started out just with bass and drums, thinking that maybe in the future we'll find a guitar player, but then decided to keep it that way, as it seemed to be just fine. I play power chords with big fuzz, imitating a guitar, but it sounds heavier than guitar... because it's bass! If you disagree we can go on a wrestling match...  Everything is just easier and more fun with less people. Also I believe it looks more fascinating from viewers perception when it's only three of us on stage and we have no guitars. But that's a matter of taste, i suppose.
