Oh, those artists)) At first, I thought that cover shows a creature from Sumerian mythology (presumably Jinn). But I was as far from the truth as Leonardo DiCaprio was from Oscar in 2000. This small 4-way split is entirely Japanese, hence, we need to seek answers in their mythology. The artist depicted a Japanese god of wind by the name of Fujin, who protects the Japanese land from the capitalist invasion (in my opinion, roots of this idea grow from the period when Mongols were trying to conquer Japan’s shores). Vinyl is also not so simple. Its color reminded me of a ripe juicy watermelon, very beautiful color of vinyl. These black splatters on a blood-red vinyl are fascinating. This truly Japanese collection is opened by Mass Collapse. Their thundering grindcore punk, although sounds kind of muffled, could be listened to very easily. With these sounds, the body is getting filled with vigor and energy. These 2 tracks are very good, I will take note of these punks. Mold ... this team is focusing more on hardcore. Their loud music reminded me a little of the legendary Unholy Grave. It seems to me that the vocals recorded with some minimal effect, which I can’t exactly determine. Even if it all sounds a bit noisy and dirty, but as for me, it draws attention to them. But Corbata is probably the heaviest band here. There is no high-speed riffs and drum knockouts. Corbata is like a great big truck that is rushing at full speed. Thick sound, coupled with wild vocals, makes the sound of this band very cool. During some moments, the songs reminded me of the good old Napalm Death in thei best years Picnic - the strangest band here. In their songs they combined speed, brutality and, oddly enough, melody. Fast and aggressive piece is replaced by a sudden pop melody and vocals transition from screams to clean vocals. Then again, a quick punch, and pop again ... very strange thing (although what is there to wonder about if this is Japan :)) Rating: Mass Collapse 7/10 Mold 7,5 / 10

Corbata - En La Bruno (Imminent Destruction Records)

Grind or not grind at all! To be honest, I somehow did not track this Japanese band after their performance at the OEF and now... suddenly... After participating on a couple of compilations and releasing a demo, Corbata delivered their first full-length album. I remember I was chatting with their drummer once, and he told me several times that he doesnt want the album to get to the Internet. I think that's why the album was released on vinyl (lazy pirates hardly will buy separate sound card and wind up with a bunch of hardware to steal this album, so the guys from Corbata shouldn't worry :)) The first thing that catches your eye when looking at the photos of band participants is their appearance. They hide their faces behind masks ... and this theme even took place on the album cover. I knew that the Japanese are not indifferent to various Mexican stuff, but the first time I can see (in the lyrics), and hear songs sung in two languages. The percentage of Spanish prevails over Japanese but anyway it's weird))
I really liked the sound on En La Bruo. It's not overmastered, not straight like a pillar ... there is something to catch your ear, and it is very good. The album does not start right away with a sharp sound attack, first guys rock the listener, and only then strike (all as in good old 90s). Album is remarkable with its insistence, here you will not hear the evil super speeds as in modern grindviolence, so PV fans will likely get disappointed listening to Corbata, but that's their problem, hahaha!)
Speaking of the aforementioned drummer, he is famous for playing in I.R.F., Vivisection. If someone of you remembers and loves IRF, you will also like Corbata. I almost forgot, there is only 10 tracks... 10 tracks for a grind release is not serious at all)))

Cryptic Void - Psychomanteum (Imminent Destruction Records)

I was very glad that Imminent Destruction sent me this vinyl of guys from Texas for review. This is a vinyl reissue of their debut work, which was first released in the form of a cassette. Even though it's debut but the quality of this work is simply amazing. Average listener will think "so what's wrong with that?". And the feature is that members of Cryptic Void passed through fire and water in such bands as: Nibiru, Insect Warfare, P.L.F., War Master!
Psychomanteum can be compared with a small nuclear bomb. It is a very dangerous thing, I must tell you. The energy of these songs, just like radiation, penetrates to the bones! Damn, the rage of this "music" really makes my ears feel good, haha! Frank's blastbeats are as intense as Soviets dropping bombs on Berlin at the end of WWII! And singer's "output" reminds the roar of a hungry bear who saw the bunch of tourists :) Juicy sound of string instruments completes all this mess ... what else to say ... Keep it up guys!
By the way, the cover artwork would be quite suitable for all kinds of releases of occult rock collectives, but the one who buys this thing shouldn't consider that it was recorded under the light of 100 candles, hahaha
