Malad/Harsh Supplement (Rotova Porojnina Records)

I really don't know why but noisecore guys really like tape. Noise labels are releasing a ton of cassettes per year. I guess it's a pretty comfortable format for them. Young Ukrainian label Rotova Porojnina Records just released this harsh tape and gave me this one for review. It's a split between Canadian noise veterans Harsh Supplement and Ukrainian noise duo Malad. Hm, this short tape has really crazy artwork… I`m pretty sure that this art mass was made by a really stoned and mad designer, haha! But we are here for the noise, so let's look into the dark void of noisecore depths... Let's taste this first noise cocktail - Malad! I've known this band from the beginning… and I must confess in the early years these guys sounded horrible. But with passing years they found the right way and now they sound much better. This recording session is pretty much dirty… distorted sound of the bass guitar makes a real mess. Sadly I can't say that I am satisfied with their side 100%, but anyway there were a lot of good moments. Stupid wall of aggression, yelling. blast beats and pure improvisation. That`s what we call Malad! The second long drink is really strong. Old duo Harsh Supplement knows how to create really high energy shit. Yes I know that almost all of their stuff is of bad quality, their sound is definitely not the best. BUT, their material is full of real ferocity and power. This recording is pretty wild, it's like the guys tried to put all of their negative emotions in this noise. It seems that these roars, yells and screams were recorded in some kind of zoo, hahah! That shit sound really wild. Rating: Malad - 6 Harsh Supplement - 7

Gorgonized Dorks – S/T (Rotova Porojnina rec)

It was quite a while ago when we wrote something about nasty noise bands, so let’s fix that! Today’s band is legendary noise duo Gorgonized Dorks! Over the decades these guys created and recorded so many different things, some of them were good some were not… But the main and best thing in this band (of course in my opinion) is the fact that these crazy fuckers always try to create something new. And it applies to this cassette too. Here is a massive wall of noise. No, here you will find many slow, space and other noises. Everything starts with adorable lovely slow melodies with some interesting noise pieces (ala space noise) and then it turns into ugly Noisecore blasts. The first few songs are rich on rhythm changes, this untitled record sounds pretty wild. Also I noticed that some of these songs have a pretty hypnotic effect, they have an atmosphere of the looney bin and that is fucking crazy, haha! In total we have here about 14 minutes of good and unboring noise. This tape is strongly recommended to all noise freaks!
And few words about tape cover. Just look at this guy, I`m pretty sure that is Ben (drums), in this picture he really looks like some old Soviet dictator, hehe!

VAVA – demo 2017 (Rotova Porojnina Records)

I got this tape from the Rotova Porojnina Records Cihef. This raw and short piece of noise was his first release. So let’s see what we got here. So if I understand everything right VAVA is a solo project from the drummer of Malad. First of all I must draw your attention to the fact that it is very primitive stuff. And I can say that after listening to this tape I remain a fan. The art of this tape is pretty nice, this primitive picture reminds me of some old soviet cartoons. VAVA consists only of drums and screams. This 6 minutes were recorded in someones garage so everything here is very raw. All songs are short, fast and messy. I didn’t hear anything special but I like the drum reverberation. Some of the songs sound like quick shots some of them sound pretty stupid (crazy stupid yelling is not my favorite sorry). In general this release is very mediocre. Rating: 6/10
