Self Deconstruction / Speed!!Noise!!Hell!! (RSRec)

Mysterious Japan is the land with really weird and unique stuff. But we all love this country not only for Godzilla we also love it for its music. This land is reach with sick talents, which torn up side down usual to us things. Split LP Self Deconstruction / Speed!! Noise!! Hell!! Is one of these interesting, bright and fresh experiments in music. I want to start with Self Deconstruction. Their free style of grindcore is freaking harsh! The riffs are crazy chaotic and fast, same with song structures. The drumming is mind-blowing, the guitar grind and blaze with massive precision and the vocals are crazy as hell. Throw out the melody, and these elements combine to form a landscape that is fast and ultra-brutal. Just the way how grindcore should be. I caught few moments of free jazz here, that was strange but fits perfectly into this sound massacre. The end of this side was unexpected and positive for me... these freaks played a weird Motorhead cover (Iron Fist song) and ended with remarcable riffs from Iron Maiden, ha! Speed!! Noise!! Hell!! starts with slow, dirty and atmospheric intro which is good introduction into their fast and jaw-dropping punk! God damn, here is so much furious tunes and rhythms… each song sounds so aggressive and savage. This hardcore punk make headbang me a lot, hahaha! The string instruments sounds a bit messy, I mostly hear bass, drums and frantic screams, but that not a bad thing. Speed!! Noise!! Hell!! take your soul with it powerful energy! In most respects, this is a not standard, albeit solid piece of new wave grindcore and punknoise split. Rating: 8.5/10 Self Deconstruction fb Speed!! Noise!! Hell! bc

The Borkenlayne - Pain Is The Fearminder (Radical Blarghst)

One gloomy day years ago, four dirty minds from Japan and Australia met together and decided to form a band. This decision would not only change their lives, but it will make a huge damage in grindheads minds.
Through the course of 21 tracks, The Borkenlayne absolutely tear it up. Pain Is The Fearminder is a phenomenal deathgrind, or maybe deathgore record. If you haven’t heard gored deathgrind yet and you like grind, then this is a great introduction. An epic “Oceanic Thrust” opens this gate to hell and then it drags us into the black void of boiling obscurity. First, what will really punish you, it's the sound...it has a raw taste and it's heavy as fuck! The pitch shifted vocal is as deep as Hell is, and it has a nice low tremoring sound. The guitars paint the thunderous portrait of flames and continents breaking apart. The rhythm section provides the fuel to keep the fires burning from start to finish. I want to highlight a blasting drums, they have old school sound, which is perfectly fits in.
By far one of the most bizarre covers I’ve ever seen. This paintings remind me mutilated mix of H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard (that guy who wrote Conan) stories. Muscle warrior who is fighting with sea monster it looks simply funny and epic. There is clearly a whole boatload of potential here and I am very curious to see where The Borkenlayne go with this. Rating: 8.5/10 The Borkenlayne bc

Sete Star Sept - Revision Of Noise (Fuck Yoga Records)

Tokyo's barbaric squad Sete Star Sept has been a widely revered band from the get-go, receiving love from many people in grindcore and noise families, and has become a duly noted noise force of abnormal nature since their debut in 2004. With an endless touring schedule having them trek through the USA, all of Asia, Europe, and Russia there has been a lingering wonder in my mind where the hell they managed to find time to write and record all these records? That is true insanity! This band is very active and their discography is huge (during 2018 they've had ten releases), but back in 2010 these maniacs had released a very interesting and magical album, “Revision Of Noise”. This is a remarkable and bright piece of work... this album has structures and guitar! Obviously, this 15 minutes differs from what they're doing now. The formula of this piece is deadly simple: put some intensive power, don't forget to add blasting drums and noisy, messy sound and viola! You have a sharp and aggressive beast. The guitar here is especially good, bespecially at slow moments. Savage screams add a special atmosphere of a loony bin, haha! "Revision Of Noise" is primitive aggression, and it's also a fantastic example of a not-regular noise release. You will find a lot of punchy riffs and massive sound pressure. And yeah, this album sounds almost like grindcore, so this release will be interesting for grind freaks too. Rating: 8/10 Sete Star Sept fb

Crash Syndrom - Anatomical Amusements

I freaking love unknown bands! There is something special when you're listening to unfamiliar material for the first time. You don't know what to expect, and it's always intriguing. Todays unknown name will be Crash Syndrom; this band is from Japan and I will write a few words about their fresh EP “Anatomical Amusements”. This 5 songs cassette was released under Obliteration rec (like their previous album as well), and it has classical gore art and song titles. It does not sound promising, does it? But wait until the noise flows from the speakers. My first impression is positive. "Anatomical Amusements" is a remarkable work of heavy ferocity and massive, tremerous riffs. This deathgrind has a lot of groovy and catchy moments, and the heaviness of this tape pleasantly irritates my ear membranes. The sound is bit messy (it's tape format, so that's okay) but massive and dynamic. I like that the bass guitar is at the front line - its grizzly sound is really crushing. Sometimes the guitar sounds cluttered with the bass and drums, but it's still good. There is one thing that I like about vocal part - Crash Syndrom are using few different kinds of vocals: old school death metal growling/screams and pitch shifted vomiting (which brings a lot of gore mood into this music). As for drums, hmmm, hard to highlight something special here, but I totally love the sound of the snare drum. During listening I was left with the thoughts that the guys are big fans of Dead Infection, Carcass, Napalm Death, Blood and other legends. For example I caught a good Carcass smell in “Process of Decay” song. In comparison with their debut album “Postmortem Solutions To Mundane Issues”, this EP is more interesting - it has more of an old grind feel, and it is much more memorable than the debut one. This is a very nice tape for fans of old death metal or for grind freaks. Rating: 8/10 Crash Syndrom bc

Final Exit / Sedem Minut Strachu (SPHC Records)

It`s very hard to review Noise releases, during the years I have not had the chance to meet many of the original and interesting Noise bands. But, this 7” is one of those special and catchy releases. We have here Final Exit from Japan and Sedem Minut Strachu from Slovakia. Noise lovers must know both of them; they are pretty unique and original. SPHC Records (located in USA) released this noise in vinyl format. This lovely colored vinyl is hiding a very high dose of Noise, so be careful and be sure to put the volume on maximum!
I want to start with side A. Japanese legends Final Exit didn't disappoint me. Their diverse Noise cheers me up; this material can be compared to a digital Frankenstein. So many different styles are stitched together. Same with the tempos… fast, crazy and blasting parts are perfectly balanced with slow, acoustic parts. I guess this mess could blow up the heads of fans of modern rap or pop music, but I found this noise very enjoyable.
My old Slovakian friends managed to make something very strange and funny. Their side is dedicated to Cliff Burton; also they have used a few riffs from a famous Metallica song. That sounds pretty fresh in the mix with their brand of Noise. But unfortunately this experiment didn't touch me…

Butcher ABC - North Of Hell (Power It Up)

I guess everyone who is interested in the Japanese underground scene is familiar with this band. They have been butchering the ears of Grind fans for almost 20 years; they play many gigs around our dirty globe… Of course they havea lot of records, but the fact that they have released their first full length just now is a bit weird to me. Anyway they did it well. I know that there are a few different editions of “North Of Hell” with various cover arts and formats. For this review I will review the vinyl version. It was released by German Power It Up Rec.
Regular black color and fantastic front cover. Creepy butchers that are trying to carve a giant half rotten head that looks dreadful and is probably one of my favorite pieces of cover art for this year. As for the noise...
This album has more of a Death Metal sound but, I can’t call this album 100% Deathgrind. I caught a lot of other elements. Just check the first song… “Join Us.” It has so many groovy tunes; sometimes it reminds me very mutated stoner metal with a Deathgrind base. The whole production is very tight and that helps this release stand out. The guitars are heavy and fast, yet clear when the blasting grind ensues. Half grind, half death their riffs are like a butcher knife, easily cutting off flesh from the listeners. The bass is bone-jarring, and mixed into the sound well. I like that Butcher ABC used two different kinds of vocals; one is clear and second is pitch shifted. Of course distorted vomit roars brings a huge load of Gore madness into this mess. Call me crazy but, I think that the drums sound more like Death Metal. There is a lot of middle tempos and slow and deep cymbal crashes. There are not many blast beat parts… But that does not mean that the drums suck, no, in fact they fit perfectly into this bloody sound hell.
This album starts with an unusual groovy song and it ends with very similar manor. “North Of Hell” is a very long song, coming in at 8 minutes, it consists of massive slow and heavy tunes. It sounds like weird mix of Doom, Death, Grind and Psychedelic genres. Maybe it’s strange to use such approaches in grind music, but that helps to highlight this album.

Ejaculation Generater / Sete Star Sept

If I remember correctly, I received this tape from United Arab Emirates, and that surprised me a lot. I put this tape in my box for reviews and somehow it opened on the bottom of it, so I'm only just finding it now(my bad). It's necessary to mention that this is pretty harsh split, so you should expect the appropriate sound, chaotic structures, and blood pouring from your ears.

I will go in order and start with Los Angeles band Ejaculation Generater. I tried to listen to their noise few times, but I didn't find anything interesting for me. This is a pretty messy harsh noise gob with extremely hysterical vocals and sound distortion. But in the end of this torture they put funny and dirty punk rock song, and that cheers me up. For me, that cheesy punk attack was best moment at this tape.

This time, Japan legends Sete Star Sept disappointed me. Okay - this noise is still chaotic as fuck, but somehow I find it blank. I only heard a few good catchy moment here. The painful wall of distorted bass sound and loud drumming is here, but almost every song sound like the previous song and that is no good. Anyway, when you have so many records, it's normal that some of than are not brilliant…
