SYNTAX!
Syntax is a grindcore
band from Los Angeles that started in 2008 after Bastardass went on hiatus, and is a reincarnation of
Mobile Terror Unit (Powerviolence 2004-2008).
Often regarded (and even dismissed) as a Discordance Axis worship, the
influences behind Syntax' sound were common to those of DA: video games, anime,
and blast beats. More importantly, there was a thirst for something new,
challenging, and expansive. After
debuting with their 2009
demo, the band shifted gears with their 2012 demo and “Corridos Grind”(split 7’’ with Netherlands’ MATKA TERESA) towards a path distinctly their own.

Matka Teresa & Syntax split 7"
Cooperation of 7 (!) labels gave the opportunity for existence of split that we have here. This copy was presented to me by British label Grindfather pro. On one side of this vinyl is Matka Teresa. I’m not a big fan of live records, and when I listened to first song from this release on Bandcamp I was a little disappointed. Very noisy and slurred record. But as we know, digital and analog sounds are like camel and a horse. And this is the thing that saved them. Their stuff called “Cry Pain Suffering!”, sounds raw and tight, I kinda enjoyed this muddy evil thing. Iconoclastic guys portrayed famous picture of Jesus (Allin) and Mary by killing them and adding all-time demon – serpent! Heheh! Ok, so I opened next bottle of beer and started to listen to very strange American band, which I found out about very recently. Absolutely crazy mess, infernal speed… Very fast and sharp guys. I think they may be treated as a “new wave of grindcore” band. By the way, these guys have an enormous thirst for electric circuits, their artwork is all about circuits… Same goes for their demo…
Overall, it’s a pretty decent split.
Rating: 5.5/10; 8/10 Order:HERE
