Today I want to present you one interesting designer and illustrator from Brazil. Douglas Correia makes a pretty dark arts, and he is not well known in grind underground, but this guy have a talent. He fills his gloomy paintings with a dark atmosphere, also he real master in small detail. You can check more of his works HERE! 

4 Ways to Grind (Libertinus Records)

Brazilians are very friendly people. This split especially, shows the tightness of their fraternal ties. These four Brazilian bands came together to honor the memory of their dead brother Antonio Ambrozio and I’d like to take the chance to join them with the memory, rest in peace my friend...

Four crazy bands must be packed in a suitable packaging. Well, I must say that this artwork was executed very skillfully. The artist made his best and realistically conveyed the madness which destroys a person from the inside. But let’s move from the visual part, it`s time to check the music out. The Cachorroda Duença plays first. Hmm, this stuff has a good and steady sound pressure... in their grindcore they interweave a good dose of old good and smelly death metal. The whole sound is a little bit raw. In fact, all the instruments and even the vocals remind me of the atmosphere of the ‘90s that will surely please fans of the old ways. Up next, 6 tracks by the Baga collective. Here we can hear a much more modern sound and the whole material is more aggressive too. The songs are fast and sharp. The rhythms, however, are not so smooth, but still very angry... It`s obvious that these guys belong more to the new grindcore wave. Next is Nosso Ódio Irá Atacar. These guys are pretty noisy but their music is pleasant to me. It’s good old school death metal with additions of vicious grindcore. Mid-tempo rhythms are dominating and they will press the listener with their weight. At the end of their part they also play a cover of Extreme Noise Terror. Last but not least comes Plague Rages. Oh... what a fury! What's going on with this singer?! It seems like he’s about to spit his own guts out :) Besides the crazy vocals, I enjoy the nice buzzing guitar and the strong rhythm section. Like in the older times, Plague Rages do not deviate from their course; like in the older times, they are still playing oldschool grindcore (many love them for that). There’s also a small bonus track hidden at the end, but I won’t tell you about it. Discover it yourself! :)

Plague Rages & Mindboil (Digital Yourself)

Split release of Plague Rages & Mindboil is a great example of small acoustic bomb. A sort of a sound terrorist act which happened on the both continents at one time and all the clues lead to Digital Yourself (which made those bombs). Frankly, I love this small and funny format of 3 inch CD (doesn't take much place and also looks great) I cannot say that this split has cool art, but evaluating release only by the cover (as I have said many times) is stupid... The first explosive device is activated by my good friends Plague Rages! First what can I say after I heard first few seconds - "it`s powerful!". I've always loved these Brazilian guys for their straightforward and sincere grindcore without any frills. Destroy, crash and grind it again! So in short the Plague Rages is similar to the deconstruction team, which takes down walls with jackhammers, haha!) Yes it`s only few songs here, but they are full of energetic and good sound. At that time these guys have proven themselves worthy to stand in the ranks of the top grind teams of their country. But with American bombers Mindboil I meet for the first time. The first thing you notice is the sound, in Mindboil it`s a little bit dirty... While on the other hand the guys compensate it with powerful sound pressure. In addition to hurricane drum parts (as far as I know Frank Gold (PLF/ Insect Warfare) is sitting behind the drums) and very sharp cutting guitars, we can also hear really nice vocals.. Part of them are clean harsh screams and growl and part with using distortion (aka goregrind style) and it adds density to the sound. In conclusion, I want to say that the guys got a good debut release. PS: I want to dedicate this review for my brazilian amigos Plague Rages, this year they celebrated 20th anniversary!)

Plague Rages/Shitfun (Gozer Records)

How many grind albums & splits have been released through all those past years? But brazilians don't lose their interest in that style, it still burns so brightly! Every year this country gives a lot of good different releases for fans of grind. And now I hold in my hands this lathe сut split with two old well-known and respected bands. Must notice that this small release was dedicated to our friend Antonio Ambrozio, rest in peace brother...
Art on this split is pretty thematic (as for grindcore). Impersonation of chaos, destroyed town and the main character looking at its remains… Frankly, I've been thinking for some time on what to write about the musical content of this release. Because this split has about 50 seconds of sound... a little bit more than 20 second for each band (this is not enough to understand everything). Probably the main difference between both bands is in vocals and sound. Shitfun has more punk sound than Plague Rages. And Plague Rages has more heavy and a little bit more aggressive sound.
Also this lathe сut has an info card inside. It contains a lot of different info, personally for me was it very interesting to know that this vinyl was made on 70 (!) year old machine :)
