Last year started with a lot of great Grind/Noise/Gore and Crust releases. It seems 2018 may be heading in the same direction thanks to this split. The formula of this release is simple, there are two bands, 2 different kinds of noise, fucking awesome sound (I don't even remember such clear sounding vinyl) + good cover art and insert design and that's all. Well let's find out why this split is so great...
Founded nearly thirty years ago, eclectic collective Psycho has extensively reigned as one of the most iconic and strongest names in the US Noise underground. Starting out as more of a traditional Punk act, they eventually came to a more Grind sound. Their side with 4 songs is a fantastic example of harsh Punk. Everything has a moldy taste of the 80’s, but on the other hand you realize that these songs were recorded very recently (it's an interesting hybrid of tunes, sound and atmosphere). Strong bass sound, energetic guitar buzzing, classic Punk drumming and crazy vocals, that’s what you will hear on side A. Ah yes, along with 3 tracks of their own, they also have covered Ramones (Bop Til You Drop track).
To be honest I didn't hear anything about Horrible Earth until they released their first album “Typical Human Behavior”. Also it was interesting to find that Tim Morse is playing in this band. The new songs are almost the same as on the album, but I said ALMOST. These 5 songs have a bit of a schizophrenic structure, faster tempos, and also a tiny taste of Punk and Death Metal in the sound. It is a portion of twisted Grindcore with mighty power, and yes everything is done with old traditions. I can call this buzzing monster real old school Grindcore! If you loved the era of 80’s/90’s extreme music, then check this small split!

I`m fucking happy and excited. Today we will continue a theme about grind history. And we have today a very legendary band. We will be listening to the early Psycho work “Son Of 8 Song E.P.”! There is no sense in saying how much Psycho has done for the underground (they are really fathers). Their early years were really crazy, amazing shows in basements, raw recording sessions, there was a lot of fun (and of course there still is). This EP is only the second release in Psycho's discography. They released it in 1985, and it still sounds very rad. I was lucky enough to get a fresh re-press into my collection and I must confess it's very nice to hold this thing in your hands. Also it`s great that the new version has all the old art, I really believe that is very important (there is even a Xeroxed insert). This picture brings me smile. All this hardcore punk party looks so lovely. Old art is the best. As for music…
This is what I call real punk. Moldy raw sound, groove and pure aggression these words describe the whole thing. All 6 songs are charged with a good portion of kicking energy. If you listen to their previous work “8 song EP”, then you will definitely feel the changes. This EP contains more aggression, more hardcore madness. This record is fast and tight. This screaming guitar is really good, yes it has a simple sound, but it is very perfect for this genre. Also just listen to the bass guitar; these loud clanking noises are just adorable. The drummer has no high technical skills but he tries his best. So in the end I just only say that every second on this vinyl is worth being heard.

Today I want to talk about old good punk. American veterans of punk/noise scene Psycho who visited Mexico in 2013 and here's what happened there. Beside of bunch awesome gigs, guys recorded 5 songs on local radio, but I'll keep it for later.
On album cover we can see unchangeable band’s talisman - Chainsaw Priest. He brings The Word Of God to a crowd of zombies, hah. By the way, the vinyl is red, and all information on it is painted by silver colour inks.
And back to music. After short introduction from a broadcaster, they start playing. Damn, despite very noisy sound, it feels so good, very fresh. American veterans deliver very cool oldschool harcore punk. You’ll find strong bass beat as well as solo on a single string. Harsh vocal and strong drums section. I really want to hit the moshpit and join to the bloody circlepit. Despite, this is a live session, all instruments are well mastered and are pretty distinguishable. And in the end, in outro you can hear a small piece of Iron Maiden, hah))

A long time ago, not even in our galaxy... ancient evil, which was sleeping in ages, finally woke up! It blew off age-old dust and started to slowly rise, its eyes opened, and while exposing its ugly face, it released a shrill roar! Last days of humanity has begun! That's the way to describe what has happened. Legendary men from Psycho released their second album! More than 20 years has passed since their first LP called "Hosebags From Hell", the second LP is named "Chainsaw Priest". On the cover of this LP crazy priest is watching right into my soul (everybody saw this chainsaw lover, it's basically a pasteboard of the band, just look at the split with Agathocles!), who's slaying everything and everyone with his chainsaw, a lot of blood and severed limbs included! Great design (gore stuff performed in mild colors, lyrics and other information are also there), but that's not the main thing, and you might have already got that. Comparing this album with previous one, this LP is not much punk and the sound is much heavier there. Sometimes I got the feeling that the old demons of GG Allin and Anal Cunt impregnated the sound. 17 tracks of superb as fuck punk-grind. The sound isn't crystal clean as a lot of bands do nowadays. Decent amount of raw sound even adorn this album. So, I should say that old fans of Psycho wouldn't be disappointed!

Hi, charlie, how’re you doing? First of all, what people that never heard about psycho (yeah, this kind of things happen too) should know about you?
I am doing well my friend !!!Well, first off we have been together over 30 years - we started in 1981!!! I joined in 1984 !! We started as a
Punk band and we just keep getting faster and faster and more brutal as well! No we are this d.i.y., grind, punk hybrid!
Finally, priest came out to slash all sinners. Judgement day has come) how people react on your new album? I was about to fall off the chair when i found out that you released a new album, i was so shocked)
Most of the reactions have been very good! But you have to expect a few shitty reviews by people "who dont get it" !! We waited way too long to release new material! We are finally happy with this new cd and we do plan more releases right away! Next plans are a flexi disc recorded live at a radio station in mexico 2013... A split 7 inch with mesrine (canada) and another split 7 inch with martyrvore (usa).
