Currently we have one bass player who also does the main vocal duties, a guitar player who also does backing vocals, another guitar player who writes a lot of material and does the few solos we have. And last but not least there's a drummer who's also in charge of the production side of things.
4 years has passed since your previous album has been released, and now you're preparing your 3rd LP! If I'm not mistaken, you recorded it in winter 2013/14. Tell us a little about process of creating it. Could you tell us approximate release date?
Personally i've lost count of the days, weeks, hours, and so on that have been spent on creating the forthcoming album. The process started maybe a year and a half ago with writing and practicing the material. The latter half of last year was spent recording, and this summer it was finally mixed and mastered. The process has been gruelling to say the least, mainly because of the huge timespan. Each one of us has had some personal stuff that has interferred and prolonged the whole thing, jobs, relationships, other projects, and whatnot. You know, everyday life. But now that it's done we can all be proud of it. What comes to a release date we're hoping that we could get it out in the months nearby.
Last year two of your members quit, bassist and drummer. What happened? Did you record new material with old members or with a new ones?
Indeed there were people going in and out of the band and that was also something that caused disturbance. Luckily nothing was recorded with old members still on-board, because that would've caused problems. as for the reasons for people leaving, everyone had their personal stuff. It's certainly not a walk in the park to be on a band that has five members and everyone going thru their own life and trying to pull the band in a certain direction. Relationships within a band always have a unique dynamic that can't be put into words, but try figuring out how to be married to four different people. not easy at all.
And what does your band's name means? I was racking my brain for a long time over it but still don't get it, is it something on Finnish language?
I myself was not in the band when it was first founded so i can't tell you the origin of the name, but i do know what it means. I'll only say that you'll get it when the new album comes out.
Artworks on both of your albums were made the same style. Let me guess, third will be the same style?) and do you have a name for this style? 'Cause I've never seen such artworks (like in Dead Infection compilation)
Yeah, the two previous covers were done by this polish guy named Szymon Siech who i have never met personally but based on his art he seems like a very stable and nice guy! For the new album we are going to a new direction though, mainly because we feel like we've grown out of that style of music and thus also cover art.
I love vocals on your albums. Different types of vox elaborates each other. What should we wait from the new one, maybe a lot of pitched vox? One track is too little to understand what's coming to us)
As the vocalist of the band i take that as a huge compliment, thank you. Nevertheless i am sorry to tell you that pitchshifter vocals are not totally gone, but in the minority. This was already the direction that we pursued with the cultivate disdain album, and on this new one they will be even more punky and simplified. So no more layers of silly vocals about pussy and diarrhea (okay there's one song about diarrhea), but more of an angry and pissed of dry-wall of midrange screaming about the state of the band, about the society, about mental problems, and about drug abuse.
There're rumors that Finns drink a lot (yeah yeah, that's totally generic, but still I will ask you)) What's your opinion about it, do you also like to sacrifice your liver in the name of booze?))
Let me just start by saying that i love beer, i love lagers, i love stouts, i love ales, i love everything about beer. And then there's weed also. I'm not a fan but some people are fanatic about it. I don't like overdoing stuff, but gaf has been originally based on the idea of creating music while enjoying life with the help of everyones drug of choice. In Finland because of a handful of people who can't control themselves we now have politicians trying to make enjoying life impossible. When visiting places like prague or berlin you can't help but wonder how can it be so easy and simple for them. Cornershops selling beer around the clock and people being easy and conversating and smiling everywhere, whereas we finns always try to find a way to get fucked up as fast and cheap as possible. I fucking hate that and it pisses me of. but i do hope, and i'm pretty sure that that day will come in our lifetime, that reason will be added to the discourse concerning finnish drinking habits, and also maybe the legalization of mild drugs. sorry for ranting but this happens to be a matter of heart to us...
What can you say about your underground scene, is it friendly and united? (Oh, by the way, say hi to your friends Feastem:))
It depends a lot, we've been around for seven years and have come across some of the most kind and friendly people, but also real dicks that are there just to push their personal agendas. The first types luckily have been in the majority. I'm no christian but the golden rule can happily be applied to life in general and also into music. Feastem is a good example of nowadays close friends that otherwise i think i would've never met if we hadn't done a gig together.
Also, why are you concentrated on LPs, where are the splits? Where's split with Agathocles, I'm asking you!?)))
Agathocles hasn't called yet, that's why. No really, there just hasn't been enough time. When making a 25 minute album takes four years there's just no time to do everything that a proper grind band should do. Like a split with Agathocles.
If Dinosaurs still existed on Earth, which one of them would have been your vehicle?))
Aah, the first silly question! I was a huge fan of dino riders when growing up, so i'll have to say that maybe a somewhat retarded velociraptor with a ginormous ballsack would be totally our vehicle of choice. We would have no idea where we're headed but we would get there fast and with sore nuts.
Who would've beaten Chuck Norris: Godzilla or nazi-zombie from space?)
I'm thinking that by the time the space nazis have made it from the moon to the earth Chuck Norris has had time to tame Godzilla and they would've shared a reasonably sized hit of nice home grown weed and come up with a plan to get rid of those no good promoters of unhealthy human values.
Ok, let's get serious for a moment. Everyday we watch humanity's going down. Moral degradation, wars, Oprah's shows... How it will turn out in the end, in your opinion?
I do have to say that despite of being surrounded by people who i have a hard time understanding, I do believe that theres a place for everyone in this world. And where there's problem mankind can't solve, well then nature will find a way. Cycles is what this whole thing is about and depending on your race, origin, or social status you're either going uphill or downhill. there's only so much a single person can do to make the world a better place. Everyday choices do count and that's pretty much it. there's no doubt that a new ice age will come some day, but i don't think there's much you, or i, or anyone can do about it. Until then just be cool, give some, love back, and enjoy the ride.
What associations come to your mind when you hear: DIY, metalhead, kangaroo and Nasum?)
DIY: culture, metalhead: relic, kangaroo: evolution is fun, and Nasum: rip Mieszko.
Well, we're out of beer and it's time to call it a day)) Thank you so much for this interview, couple of final words from you)
Thank you for having us, sorry for all the typos, give a hug to someone today, promote democracy, and when in doubt listen to iron maiden.
