Agathocles - Mince the Bastards (Shark Attack Records)
Last year was quite productive for Agathocles, they did almost 30 (!) releases. And among all these cassettes, vinyls and CDs, I noticed one very interesting collection published by the Colombian Shark Attack Records. I can not claim that many releases of these Belgian veterans passed through my hands, but this particular CD was a real cultural shock for me! Without exaggeration, I can assure you, this is the best Ag. release that I have ever seen. What is so good about it? First, offset printing, the logo and the name of the disc is printed in silver, would that be enough for you? Here, have a badge and a pair of stickers. You tell you've seen this before? And what do you say about that super printed fabric cover, with the alternative cover art? (by the way it is available already in 10 different colours)
The CD contains 40 tracks that cover the period starting from 1996 to 2013. The first 11 tracks were recorded back in '96, at the BRTN Radio Studios in Brussels, Belgium. And it looks like those are the tracks from the album Razor Sharp Daggers (but only with remastered sound). Sound is very fresh and, as for Agathocles, is very readable, heheh)) After that there goes a record made at the John Peel radio program (yes, the peel sessions, you're right). But here, as far as I understood, the track list is complete, since the old release had only 15 tracks. Omitting the record made at the BBC studio, we gradually move to the 13 tracks made by Ag. in 2013 in Jakarta (Indonesia). At that times they did a tour across the country, and the guys did not miss the chance to leave mark at a local studio :). And this whole mincecore story is accomplished by track #40 that lasts as much as 4 seconds.
In general, this disc is very useful to those who want to get acquainted with Agathocles. Here you'll find both the best hits and some different sound (anyone can pick up a track to his taste)
