Hi, guys, how’re you doing, is it sunny on the streets?)
Hi Mr Alex. First of all, millions of sorry for the delay of this interview. No fucking reason to save our ass. But here we are to answer and let's do this till fucking end.
Currently it’s sunny day in the morning and it will be a heavy rain in the evening. It’s awesome. it will be cold at night.
Is Tools Of The Trade your first musical experience? Or you already played in other bands? Do you have some side projects, maybe somebody playing in other band or bands too?
Originally tools of the trade is one of my project bands. it’s getting more serious and we getting more focused when most of our previous band are stuck in nowhere and we didn’t have so much option either to proceed or to end it .Recently, Me tiong also playing in other band called Kah Roe Shi , Emi(bassist) played in other project band called WWHIRR and Yus, our drummer, play in other band as well called Last Minute.
Is it hard to meet like-minded persons in your area? Not only for creating a band, just people that united by noisy underground music?
It’s very hard. You need to know them very well. it depends on the situation and people your work with on your social life. It sometimes can be better or sometimes can be worse. You have to make a good and quick judgement and believe on your own perceptions.
Simple, but still necessary question. What’re your plans for 2014? Already considered how band should advance hereafter?
For 2014 more studio work needs to be done. It’s scheduled on Nov 2014.

No main tour for this year as we stuck with our own daily and family commitment. Its very hard to take as we had to pull off from Bloodshed Fest as well. And we just released our Proclamation’s LP last October. We put on hand together with the labels and organize a small show for the release party. It's succeed and we had so much fucking fun. The turn up are overwhelming.
Tools Of The Trade is pretty famous at home. What about other countries? Did you get any invitation to play somewhere, like, Europe or Australia?
Hahaha.not sure or never thought about to be a famous or be known. Just want to push the band as far as we can. Nothing to aim for. We just doing what we love to do. We got couple of invitation to play in several places. Like Bloodshed festival in Holland , India for Undergrind Festival ,Bangcock deathfest in Thailand and couples of shows in Singapore.
I know some Indonesian, Singapore, Malaysian grind bands, but stoner and sludge – never heard of any. Do such bands exist there?
Not sure about it. As far as I know we have OATH from Indonesia. The name is quite well known in South east asia. We also played with them in Johor Bahru.
What was the most creepy thing that you’ve ever seen, something that makes your hear turn gray?
Ermm…happened in the last tour in Borneo island, we were on the way back from the show to our stay apartment. from the place called keningau , we are cramped in 12-seat van. Our Van driver switch off the van lights and told us he got some problem with the light. it’s full 300% of darkness in my life. our left & right is just a jungle and empty road with no single light. we can feel it if you know what I mean. cold air,freezing..and we know its there…dang!!!!
Who’s the early Carcass fan in your band? Or name Tools Of The Trade have other origin?)
The name given from our ex bassist from our home town.Hes a Carcass maniac. The name turned up after we listened NASUM play it as a cover song in Grind Finale album. It's blown our mind and at the instant we knew that. This is a right name for this fucking band.
Naturally, a lot of time has passed since band started it’s activity. What was the changes in a matter of sound, world view etc?
From us,the music drastically change after the previous drummer and our second guitarist left out the band for their own good reason.from technical death grind (we preferred to call it like that..hahaha) into straight forward grindcore. WE just follow our heart and blood. This is the music that we want to play. This is what we love to do. And this is what is handy and laidback for us to fetch it up as far as we can .And it also motivate us to work hard for the release ,touring and be a good as family in the band.
Malaysia has good potential for development. All these skyscrapers and other huge buildings. But I think it’s just for distraction, and the question is - do ordinary people feel these life improvements? Or is it like always – authorities fatten and ordinary people rot in poverty?
It’s a good development for our own socio economy and infrastructure improvement. Yes if we look at with a sightless eyes and accept it from daily news that we read from tabloid. But the fact is, it’s not imbalance with current facilities, numbers of consumer and cross patterned with infrastructure expansion in the main city like kuala lumpur.it seems like there is no proper plan on this. Heavy traffic , social refuge in request , criminal , job opportunities , pollution ..all this point to be keep commentary and shrieking by media & society for the next 100 year. it will be always the same. Static.no future no hope yo!
What’s the first reason that Asian underground scene likes DIY so much, in your opinion?
Hurm.too deep.Just on my opinion.I believe DIY is something that needs to be done for yourself. Things that need to be done for something you want to achieve and plan. Something you need to do for all the struggle and pain which has been through for all the years.Something you need to do for the satisfaction and happinees.Even its not for yourself, but it could be for someone else.
So in my opinion, the question is not about whether we like or not..but we knew that this is something we want to believe and its really needed based on what has been through in our life daily & naturally. And for sure,it gave us so many options to become what we want to be and it will be an access and mechanism for us to think outside the box and be someone.
As the band’s getting more famous, are you becoming more popular among women? I bet fangirls just don’t let you pass easily?)
Haha.bullshit.never thought about this.never crossed our minds.we just keep on going, push the band as we can, have a good times with friends and enjoy the music.
Oh damn, I almost forgot. “Good Guys Go Grind” team congratulates you on the anniversary! 10 years anniversary, after all!)
