How it all started? Who came up with this crazy idea of creating a grindcore band?
Everything started arround 2008/2009 when Lop came with this new grindcore band Idea, every members by that time played in different grind bands before so the idea wasn't really brand new, I guess what was special back then was the will of starting something sounding Swedish, it was quite new in the French grindcore scene.
As far as I know, you're from Besancon. Is there an underground movement, or you're the only band who plays that kind of music?
Half of the band is from Besancon and the other is from Jura, which is a mountainous area of the east part of France. So concerning Besancon there is somekind of underground movement. A lot of bands come from this city and we are quite famous for our melodic punk rock scene. Concerning Grindcore, Crust or DIY spirit in general it is less impressive, the crust / grind scene consists of around ten people who are really active, the rest are just friends who are trying to support us as best as they can. We have few labels coming from our town as well such as Impure Muzik, Svoboda Records, Kanivo Chaos or Tanker Records, these people are together with the DIY promoters the last people carrying the real DIY spirit according to me. But anyway even if Besancon is not the best DIY city in Europe, the numerous bands is a good argument to get a proper rehearsal place, so we have since 30 years now a huge structure where we can go and practice which is great.
I don't know, we had few great new grindcore releases in France lately but I think it is just the reflect of a general atmosphere around the world. I guess internet and the fact that we can get all the music we want helped in someway, it helped people to discover grindcore and many awesome bands which inspired them. Otherwise it is just regular development in life: bands come and go.
Your new kick in the fan's teeth is called Scum Will Reign and it should come out on one-sided LP, is that right? What label took an honor to release it?
Yup our next release is called Scum Will Reign, we recorded it in may and it will be finally out very soon ! We chose to release it on a one side LP, we did not experiment this format before so we're quite exited ! The seminal project was to do a split with some other band but it didn't work out so we're on our own on this one … Concerning the Label it is our friend Mika from WITCH BUKKAKE RECORDS who will release it. We're very proud and honored of this. According to me it is one of the best actual grindcore label in Europe, he has a very eclectic and homogenous catalog at the same time, almost all his releases are pure gold. And he is really ahead of the grind trend in Europe.
haha never saw it that way actually ! But it's true that this anatomical subject can remind of General Surgery or Carcass cover, which means good goregrind so thanks a lot ! Actually it is Arnaud Maniak, the drawer, who came up with this idea ! The full artwork details the allegory of freedom but under death or anatomical features, so you can see in it whatever you want: as an allegory of our lack of freedom or maybe as a deconstruction process of what is liberty for nowadays ? That's what is great with such kind of artwork, it is open to many interpretation. The colours are the ones from the French flags, not because of some pride of whatever, but death of freedom, climax of control + France = epic win according to us.
I just can't pass by your title. Is it like all people on the planet are whores, or one particular nation?)
All nations are whores. We sometimes have trouble with that name, it comes from a bad translation from French and it is sometimes hard to explain that we are not sexists. We despise the idea of nation or government.
Last year you did a lot of gigs, toured with a lot of bands, and drank a lot of alcohol ;) what's the most attractive thing in this on-the-road lifestyle to you?
I have my very own top 5 of good things on the road : Friends, Food, Party, Music, Travels. Life on tour is so impressive, you are detached from anything and it allows you to do what you really like : noise + party ! You get to meet so many nice people and to see so many places, I would not trade it for anything. It is an exhaustive day dream. Last year we played 51 gigs, 51 awesome travels, hundreds of beers, thousand of snare hits, just awesomeness.
I really believe in the power of music when it comes to spread ideas. Without Hardcore Punk my life would be probably different, I would not be aware of political issues and I would see the world a different way. Thanks to Punk I was able to grow up and it gave me a starting point to think about my personality and how I want to behave in society. That's why we're trying to write meaningful lyrics, that's why I try as best as I can to introduce the songs on stage.
As everyone knows, France is famous for its wine, cheese and cute girls. What cheese is the best to eat while listening to Whoresnation?)
Blue cheese I guess, kind of strong and disgusting ! But you'd better drink a shitload of wine and avoid eating anything so you'd be drunk and under the spell of blast beat. This would be the best.
What's more important: music or good meaningful lyrics?
Both? Haha.
What about fast-food? Do you like to fill your bellies in McDonald's and other similar Satan's luncheonettes?))
Ok … I have to be honest on that one, but yes … sometimes some of us betray our ethic and eat that kind of Junk food … Sorry, but you know cultural pressure is sometimes so strong. So when fat is involved we become suddenly very weak ...
Have you ever dreamed about doing a gig under an Eiffel Tower or inside a Notre Dame De Paris? It would blow everyone's mind for sure))
About Eiffel tower no but organizing a sludge gig in Notre Dame de Paris would be fucking amazing. Or some harsh noise gig, the noise would be so powerful with all this echo. But actually our main dream is to destroy paris I guess haha.
