Human Cull – Revenant (Death By Digital)

Human Cull is definitely not a new name in Grind. These 3 Brits have been ripping apart the underground for the past 7 years and show no signs of slowing down. So today we sit down to swoon over their most recent offering, Revenant. Just from the cover art, you can tell this package is sure to deliver something tasty for our senses. Depicting multiple towering masses of human bodies interconnected by what seem to be either hoses or veins, not sure which exactly. Off near the bottom left corner of the artwork is depicted to be what looks like some sort of Dark Deity or Evil Conjurer using these souls for his bidding.

Alright now, let’s dive into this record and see what it has to offer us. Boasting tracks that range from 20 seconds to 2 minutes in length.  We kick things off with the ear blistering Harnessing Atrocity; Human Cull waste no time throwing you into a whirlwind of riffs, blasts and ferocious vocals. And it doesn’t slow down from here; each track feels faster and more relentless than the last. The Butcher’s Nails kicks off with a tasty little drum bit before diving face first into rage once more. And then there’s Everyday Paranoia, a song that kicked me in the ears so hard I had to replay it at least 3 times because it became a quick addiction. An Offering to the Machine, one of 2 songs to break the minute and a half mark, is filled with more aggression and hate than I thought possible for human beings.  This album, front to back is Human Cull’s most raw and primal work to date and an absolute pleasure to listen to repeatedly.

Agathocles / G.O.D.

I believe that idea of this split was born when the Agathocles visited Canada (and had a gig with GOD of course). So here we are, 1000 copies on nice 4-panel Digipak with folded single sided insert for Agathocles in the right pocket. Cover art for this Cd was made by Polish artist. What can I say...I really love the way he mixed the most famous covers of both bands. The Maciej Kamuda did a great job again! This monkey and monsters from the "Thing" looks so badass! Bravo! Both sides of this split are live records. AG brought something from their old stuff (these songs were recorded on 29th of March 2014 in Geel, Belgium) and G.O.D. part was recorded at The Spill in Peterborough on January 16 2016. Hm... everything's fine but I guess it would have beeen much better to record both bands at one gig (but anyway, we have what we have). This CD starts with Agathocles side. A little bit dirty but so good, these noise sounds are so great. 13 songs are full of ferocity and nihilism. You will be able to listen to some old hits and more or less new songs as well. Raw and angry yelling, noisy guitar and bass sounds, and of course beats from sir Nils. That's what awaits us on this split. Oh, I almost forgot, at that live set, guys played two covers on Lärm and Kuolema.
So, Grotesque Organ Defilement is coming up next. This band is really unique. The way they mix grindcore and gore is so goooooood. Pitshifted and crazy clear screams, nasty and filthy guitar, this all makes me feel wonderful. But, in my opinion, this band stands out thanks to their drummer. That guy has a pretty unusual drumming style, and this is the first thing you`ll notice when listening to GOD songs.

Ground - Squalor (Death By Digital)

The American team from New Jersey has a great sense of humor and a love for a hardcore. There are a lot of people who named them a false grindcore/hardcore. But they are not upset, even on the contrary they laugh at this stuff. They make a lot of memes about themselves (and in my opinion it`s really great). Guys do not care about the opinions of others they just play what they like. So the "Squalor" it`s their second album and in compared with the "Under", new one is more into hardcore side. Here we have a chance to hear many characteristic rhythms and (not so much) badass harcore back vocals... also groovy pieces prevail over grind smashing parts. I really like that how guys mixed hardcore from 90th with heavy blasting grindcore. And I`m sure that grindcore is a very good field for different experiments (because even fast noise is some kind of art). But I really dont get why Ground add that beatdown stuff into their songs. And its seems a bit superfluous (if you ask me ;)) because all material already have enough swing energy (but maybe it`s because that I dont like that modern hardcore things). This album is fast enough, it has great aggression but there's still something that does not allow me to feel this album for 100%. Also among these strong robust tracks you will find nice covers on Madball and Mortician (strange combination isnt it?:))...
