Bloody Phoenix / Lycanthrophy / Skunk / Disturbance Project (Dead Heroes rec)
It has been years since this album was released, I wanted this LP so much, but only this year I got a chance to get this beautiful beast, haha! Yeah I know, all the bands on this release are bloody good, I don’t need to go into detail about them… But the names were not the first thing that caught my eye. Look at this artwork, this image is absolutely killer! It was made by Szymon Siech (VBRRTRD.com) and this work perfectly fits with this noise and incredibly conveys the atmosphere of madness from all 4 bands. But, enough about the artwork, let's jump into our first band on the line - Bloody Phoenix!
As far as I know this is the final recording from Bloody Phoenix and they are here to harm your ears with 5 brutal songs for the last time. The songs are overflowing with ferocity, each track feels like a strong punch. Savage screams, crazy blast beats and buzzing guitar sound, that’s what we want to hear from this band and we are given all of the above. I want to highlight the last song Bella Ciao. This really crazy song was made with the inspiration of weird Russian groove war songs, and honestly, it sounds very great. But there is one negative moment in this material. The sound is not loud enough, everything sounds a bit dumb.
Czech Fastcore warriors Lycanthrophy are honored veterans of the European Noise scene. I’m glad that they are on this split. If you have heard this band once you will recognize them every time. They have their own crazy style and powerful speed. The vocals are especially spicy here, but the riffs are good too. Punky blasting is simply badass and the bass sound makes this mess decent. They recorded 9 songs for this split, but it`s very hard to notice pauses between songs, so this material sounds like one big and mad swarm of the piranhas.
Skunk is responsible for the Crust mood on this LP. These Canadian fuckers know how to create really cheerful and groovy music. Simple and catchy riffs, clear structures and a ton of dirty power, that’s what Skunk sounds like. The caveman vocals are sick, and I can say the same about their guitar tone. Goofy drums are here too, together they are creating very cohesive noise, that sticks to you and makes start to sing the rhythms. This band has two members from Archagathus, I guess that is the main reason why these riffs sound very similar to Arch material.
Spanish grinders from Disturbance Project are closing this rodeo. This band is very sharp and dangerous... Their Noise comes at you lighting fast, like a Bullet Train of fist-pumping perfection. All the songs are short (it`s a standard of Grindcore) and charged with huge load of energy. This combination of riffs, vocals, and blasting drumming could be compared with a harsh fight. While listening to this band you will imagine yourself inside the cage during an MMA-style match. The bottom line, however, is this is an old split but, it’s still one of the best split’s to come out over the last few year.

Controlled Existence / Headless Death (Dead Heroes rec)
Be
careful boys and girls, this split is very spicy. This is the place
where Czech fastness meets with Australian primitivism. This release
sounds like a weird kind of yin and yang, on one side we have
ferocious evil and on the other side we have same evil but more angry
and barbaric. As you already understand, this is a very strong
release, with which you need to be more careful. So let's taste this
piece of noise!
Czech fellas from Controlled Existence recorded some
very “unpleasant” (for someone of course) material. This noise is
fast like a rocket and toxic like snake venom. Fast catchy riffs
slowly poison your mind; thunderous drumming continuously nails you
down. Wild screaming like an abrasive piece of sandpaper, it erases
the eardrums and causes terrible pain. The last song on this 7” is
a cover of Warsore, and I must say it sounds impressive. It's really
a pity that this side is so damn short...
Headless Death is a horde
Proto-Neanderthal guys from Australia. Their noise is so savage and
the riffs are so heavy, that it often sounds messy and raw, but that
is the point. The drum work crashes with a terrific rage, playing
into the song’s overall ferocity in tempo and tone. The same could
be said about the vocals: it`s really dreadful and primitive (in a
good way). Sometimes drums and vocals are too loud and they get
cluttered among everything else, but I believe it is a necessary
element of conception. And, for the last song the guys chose to cover
Voorhees.

Needful Things - Deception (Psychocontrol records)
Czech veterans Needful Things stunned me with the news about their new album. I remember that I thought, “Hell yeah, one more pleasant surprise for this year”,
and I was right. This album (3rd in order) proved to be strong in taste (like shot of vodka) and heavy with its sound. In addition to all of this, the album has a very good visual design. I like how the artist compiled all the elements together and chose a beautiful set of colors. The main theme of this art is blind justice, victims, endless destruction, and as a consequence, oblivion in ones own ignorance. Classical? Yes! But not boring at all.
Deception rips and slams its way from beginning to end; unleashing fifteen tracks of pure chaos. As usual, the songs are short and full of energetic rage and abrasive aggression. The music combines speed and extremity with dynamic riffs and a massive heavy sound. At first glance, this album may seem like a continuous blasting piece, mostly because of the opening song (it really sounds critically fast). I can assure you there are many different song tempos and structures from fast to slow. I like how all the instruments are combined, and together they create an impressive monolith. The grisly guitars are rumbling through my brain and I know I’ve lost control again. The low crusty bass sound is really tasty, the vocals are really emotional, and these screams and roars are handsome. The drumming fires off with pure insanity; blast beats are fast and nothing stands out from the sound line. This album is full of hate and energy - it could be compared with an MMA-style cage match.
More than 20 years of action, tons of records, and powerful performances on the world's stages; all of this is not empty words, and they proved it with “Deception”. If you like warp speed music, then “Deception” will become your shot of adrenaline.

Needful Things / Overviolence (Psychocontrol records)
Today is Tuesday and, as always, this day sucks, so let's plug it with a split from Needful Things and Overviolence!
As I know, originally this split was released as a tape and it was released for an Asia tour. Now it's been turned into a vinyl, and holy moly this piece looks great. Weird cover art, with gloomy faces, a combination of colors all of which create a nice aggressive and Grind look.
Needful Things is a Grind mastodon of the Czechs scene. Can you believe that this machine has been active more than 20 years? And they're still in great shape, just check how loud their blast beats are, haha! Their style of music hasn’t shifted any and is worthy of respect. For this split our friends recorded 3 tracks. These 3 songs are all written in a similar style to an effective template that alters each time but keeps the same basic elements (like fast and short guitar riffs, bulldozering bass and heavy blast beats), time changes are kept to the same mid to fast pace and back again formula. Everything above is spiced with massive, thundering and demonic sound. That's how grindcore should be!
Play louder, play faster! That's the main rule of the mad Swedes in Overviolence. They caught me with their first EP, I remember I was really surprised about the level of violence in their music. With this work, the boys show their Grindcore side. This material has less of Powerviolence and Fastcore feel, and more of a traditional Grindcore feel. And I like this small change. The combination of speed, simple structures and ferocity create a very painful pressure. The guitar tone perfectly fits with the blasting madness and bass sound. A few variations of vocals make this mess sound more intense and alive. This is a really robust cup of sound torture!

Rubufaso Mukufo / Nervous Impulse / Epicrise
Wake up sleepy head, it's time for Grind! Today your silent morning will be crushed with this nice 3-way split. So let's find out what is hidden under this cheesy cover art...
It's so lovely to see that Rubufaso Mukufo is back! This is a new line up, new power, new sound and life for this band (at least I hope so). I can honestly say that these 11 songs are a good step in a direction to a new higher level. All the material has a better, more clean sound (with metal taste). The songs wreak of punk riffs and great guitar sound. These guys are using different approaches in vocal parties. There are “clean” roars, screams and parts where a pitch shifter was used. The mix of intensive drumming and clanking bass are creating sweet chaos. And all together that stuff sounds freaking groovy and invigorating!
I want to be honest, it was hard for me to find the right words for this band… because this unit has a mess of genres inside. Nervous Impulse is from Canada and their music is based on Brutal Death Meta. I got the impression that the guys can not decide what they want to play. In one moment Grind riffs turning in brutal tremolo with low breakdowns… Grind yelling turning in to some low fi guttural gurgling… These tracks have some good grind parts, but all these boring "brutal" things (with triggered drums) spoil the whole impression...
Unfortunately, the guys from Epicrise didn't record anything new in ages. These tracks were taken from their old demo “Dead Sea”. But in my opinion this is one of the best pieces of material from this band. A little bit raw sound with metal touch, good rhythmic pace and a ton of fun. Unfortunately the sound of the bass guitar is cluttered by the other instruments and that is a pity. One of the positive moments of this recording session is the strong vocals and smashing d-beats and blast beats. As a small bonus the guys added few nice covers of Dead Infection, Grossmember and Cerebral Turbulency. This atomic thing is full of fast guitars, crushing beats and punching energy, so what else do you need?)
