Hi hows it goin? Well we're back from our hiatus for quite some time now, but still takin it easy. We have a 10 new tracks done, and 11 others to put together before recording!! We managed to play 2 shows lately on the Bloody Phoenix tour. But they were denied entry in Canada at the customs it sucked as the turn outs were way smaller than expected!! We have 4 gigs for the summer/fall planned including an outdoor festival on a friend's farmland....with AGATHOCLES!!! Also, we're having 2 releases comin out within a few weeks : a split 7'' w/ ENDLESS DEMISE (L.A. Grindcore feat. Excruciating terror singer+ex-Nausea L.A. guit player) and our first full 7''ep ''Dealing with remains''.
Canada is famous for its lumberjacks, forests and gold mines. So, Jean for how much time you'll need to cut down the average tree?)
Hahaha I dunno... I 've never cut a tree!
While preparing for this interview, rummaging in all the information about the band, I noticed that you do not have full-length album, but splits. Is it on purpose that you do not want to record full-length album, or is it just somehow turned itself?
Yes it is on purpose. See, I personnally think grindcore/HC is supposed to be fast, short, straight to the point and over in minutes. Full lenght records would need way too many songs in one project as opposed to splits/eps where you can have 4-5 records out in a single recording session. Plus I always thought it was fun buying a split for a certain band and discovering another one in the process. Thats what I've been aiming for from the start :trying to get somewhat known bands so people hear us while buying a split from a band they like hahahah
This year you will be densely sweating on a very good show. Finally the Obscene Extreme reached you! What can you say about this?
Yeah that's cool. We'll finally get to play with a bunch of friends we havent had the chance yet!! PLus getting to see childhood faves like Immolation, pungent stench etc as a bonus!! Will be an awesome week end for sure!!!
What about future plans? I have seen announced split with Warsore! Where, pray tell, how you managed to get in touch with these kangaroo cowboys? Even I could not get in touch with them.
I got in contact with Mark Harvey (R.I.P. sept.2014) through my pal Dennis from GOO (Sweden) in 2010 or so... I originally asked him if he still had unreleased stuff, and that we hadnt forgotten about them in Quebec. We chatted and became friends he really dug our band and said it sucks that he didnt have leftovers but still wanted to do a split. So he had the idea of gathering all the cover songs they recorded studio & live and make a side with that. Now I've seen a lot of controversy goin on with that split, but I dont give a shit. When Mark sadly passed away, we considered abandonning the project, but his girlfriend Jodie, reached me and told me to make sure the record comes out, that Mark was excited about that split. So, with that in mind I can't care less about other peoples opinion hahah. Other future releases will be : split 7''s w/ EXCRUCIATING TERROR , w/ VIOLENT HEADACHE, w/ HEMDALE, split tape w/ PIZZA HI FIVE and maybe another cd ep of advance stuff+rehearsal tracks thats an idea we've been throwin around.
Well, a little more about live performances. How to play better, on sober or under a good dose of the booze?)
Sure it's always better to play sober. But that's something we can never manage to do hahah.
And do you love to hear the good old gorеgrind and look the cult of bloody movie?)
Yeah I like old horror movies a lot. Some of my bests are From Beyond, the 1st Hellraiser, always been a fan of the 1st few Nightmare on elm street. As for the bloody stuff I love all of Lucio Fulci's and Dario Argento. For the goregrind...well the only I will listen is the death metal oriented bands and only the founders ya know? Like Carcass, General Surgery (demos and 1st 7''), early GUT, old Dead Infection, stuff like that.
Well, I can not getting around the fact that you seem to already have two children! Perhaps it is difficult? How often do you manage to grab some free time for a band or a couple of beers with friends?
Yeah, sometimes it's difficult to find time for outer things, but ya know i'm not like: ''fuck...I don't have time anymore blah blah'' I enjoy my family time as much as my time for the band and friends. Now I'm not the only one either!! Our drummer's girlfriend is expecting their 1st child for January 2015!! We manage to gather it all together with friends and family all at once at Bbq's and stuff too!!
There's a whole bunch of stuff in Canada now I cant tell which is the well-known or little known but i will name drop a list of friends bands people should check out : Fistfuck (ex- Dahmer band), Six brew bantha, Uncle, Ahna, Oath (total death metal!!), Striver, Powercup , Deboned, Retard nation, Shatter it all, Existench, System shit, Burnt church, Hellacaust, Archagathus/Horrible pain/Violent gorge/Parfumerie, a whole lot more I cant think of at the moment!!!
Yeah a girl cousin of mine babysit me one time when i was 5 and she had brought tapes with her : BonJovi ''slippery when wet'', Def Leppard ''hysteria'' and.......metallica ''ride the lightning'' holy crap that was it !! The damage had been done!! hahah Then in elementary school my best friend had older brothers, when we used to play little cars and action figures in his basement, there was a big pile of glam and speed metal tapes we always ran into. Like S.o.d., krokus, twisted sister, w.a.s.p, anthrax, voivod, motley crue, quiet riot, slayer etc. Then in 5th grade when i was about 10 some older guy introduced me to Death metal and Industrial, loaning me tapes of: Deicide, Sepultura, Gorguts, Malevolent creation, Cannibal Corpse, Brutal Truth, Skinny puppy, Ministry and so on....
Have you ever wondered about old age? Do you see yourself like an old dreaded punk with a can of beer in the hand?)
I used to go with the live fast, die young kind of thing but changed some of my views since being involved with having children. As for the dreadlocks hahah Im actually back to school since last summer to be become a plumber, so I will cut them off at the end of scool. Its been 15 years I have them time for a change!!! I will always be young at heart ya know I don't dress too much like a crusty punk anymore, but will always be into the HC/punk , powerviolence, death/grind.....and good beer!!
Sometimes a sludge slips in your songs, sort of a light layer. What do you think about this?Haven't you got an idea to gather a sludge band?
We all love sludge thats why!! Plus, we're all Sabbath fans as well!!! I'm into a lot of doom/death like old My dying bride, old Paradise lost, Thergothon, Disembowelment, etc I really dig my Grief, Eyehategod,13, Dystopia, Cattlepress/Iabhorher records since high school...that's probably the main source for having sludge in the songs. No we dont have plans for sludge but we started a death/doom side band called MORTAL TORMENT (with trap jaw and deboned members) some months ago. We have a song done, but havent jammed since 3 months i think ahha
What do you think, how fair to judge a man, judging by his art, appearance, and so on?
I have always been a defender of the ''you cant judge a book by its cover'' philosophy ya know?? I was expecting society to stop like judging on first sight as time would go by....but it seems it will never change, it pisses me off. I live in a small town and you should have seen people jaw-drop when they 1st saw me walkin on the streets with my kids, like theyre sayin''what?? people like that have the right to have kids too?'' Its like ''Fuck you man, wake up?? Im not hooked on any drug, I have a job, am a good dad, don't even cheat my wife, etc so fuck off for expecting bad stuff from me''
Do you still getting in touch with musicians which you had a chance to share the stage?
Yeah we have a bunch of friends we shared the stage with!!!
Thank you for this interview!I am looking forward to new releases from you!)
Thanx Alex!!! Stay grind stay tuned for next eps!!!
