Hi, guys! Ok, let's begin! Curtain's up, woman in kimono is on the scene, with ritual knife in her hands... Mild Japanese music is on...
... and Jig-ai is coming. Soon will be over but before that we will load your head and body with uncompromising portion of brutal music which makes you feel you are not in this world.
So, it happened! Your third LP came out. I love it, especially cause you keep on the same sound and themes. Was the feedback from the fans good, did you get a lot of bras from girls?)
Feedback was very positive and we are pleased about that. We received many nice, crazy comments and also some negative ones but those are in absolute minority. No bras came at all... We are getting older probably. :D With the 3rd record it is always hard because some people are expecting changes, some that you will keep the same way and some of them expect innovations. You can never make happy all of them. We just did it as usual. RSC is purely music how we felt it at the time of recording. Groovy, fast and brutal.
As I remember, you were on two eastern OEFs, Australia and Japan. Were the crowd crazy as fuck there? Did you go deeper in theme of ritual suicide on birthplace of Jig Ai?))
Especially in Japan people were really crazy during our gigs. This is something that fills you with energy. Nice mosh-pit, stage diving, costumes. The same atmosphere as on OEF Europe. Just great. And of course we got deeper into Jig-ai stuff there but as ritual suicide is awoman thing and we are men, we still live and continue to play grindcore. Australia was very relaxed in general. This also applies for shows. We met a lot of good friends during this tour and it was nice experience. Thanx Curby.
All of your LPs were released on Bizarre Leprous Production. Why there? Do they keep you with free beer and hookers?) Is there any chance you would collaborate with other companies?
- There is always a chance and who knows what future will bring to us. We did not receive better deal from any other label than we have with BLP for now. Roman is our old friend and the whole cooperation is based on friendship.
Who's the main ringleader of guro theme in your band? I guess you have read a lot of manga for enough inspiration)
Kaspy is the guro man, Buraak is the head for crazy ideas. Image is one part but we are focused mainly on our music. This is the most important thing.
Do you take money for your gigs? Or maybe sometimes a plane ticket, warm bed, sushi and some beer is enough for you to perform somewhere?)
This is always different. It depends on time, location, amount of shows etc... We have our standard conditions for gigs in central and west Europe. The rest of the world depends on agreement.
Why exactly female ritual suicide and with Japanese colouring? What about sacrifices for ancient gods of Maya and Aztecs?)
It is the way we choose when we started with Jig-ai and we simply keep it alive. Jig-ai is Czech/Japanese style band. Maya/Aztec does not fit into concept. We have a lot of fans in Mexico and we had great time there but that is how it is.
By the way, what about splits? It's easy to see that you only have one, hehe) do you have any plans to do it again? I wouldn't believe that you don't get offers to make a split)
We have still many offers for splits but we prefer full length albums. Maybe there will be few of them in the future but the main course is set different way.
Let's talk about your side-projects, two members of Jig Ai also play in Eardelete. This band is some kind of continuance of N.C.C., but if you ask me, there's something missing. What was the reason of transformation of N.C.C? Is there any chance we would hear N.C.C. again?
N.C.C. switched to Eardelete after Richard (original drummer) left the band. There were some ideas to continue with the band name N.C.C. but we decided to change our name that time. If music is better or not is up to everybody?s feeling. Me and Buraak do not play in Eardelete anymore. We left the band because of lack of our time. Buraak still plays drums in Destructive Explosion of Anal Garland. Would be nice and fun to make some show with N.C.C. and play some old songs but there are no plans like that in the nearest future.
What beer Jig Ai needs to function well?))
Mostly Budvar for me. Good rum or whiskey suits well also. There are loads of Czech good beers and I am not strict with some brands. Depends also on pub, the way they keep their pipes, tanks etc... You can get same brand in one place really tasty and in other shit. Buraak is now quite a lot into Bernard beer.
How much is unemployment benefits in Czech Republic? Do you have a job aside band activity?
Of course. We all have permanent full time jobs and music is only hobby for us. That is also the reason why we do not play so many shows. Unemployment benefits in Czech are nearly nothing. Maximum what you can get is something around 500 EUR/month but this depends on how high income have you had before. Most of the Czech working population never touch this sum when they ask for unemployment compensation in case of need.
What is the most important thing for you in recording process? Quality of the sound? Or you could make over quality sound if it's raw but still cool? Is it possible to record great album without any special preparations?
We always try to make sound as brutal as possible with all instruments hearable, so this means to find compromise between those two levels. There are no special preparations but we follow some general procedures. The first of all the material for the whole CD should be ready and well rehearsed. Than you just make some final tunings during the recording process. We usually prepare the guitar sound also before we start to record.
Ok, guys, time to tell the readers, who likes bushes (you know, bushes:) ) and Santa Barbara series in your band?))
Never heard about Santa Barbara series. Futurama is classic, also True detective, The Shield, House of Cards are fine from what I saw... I am not much into TV series. It is too much time consuming. Better snowboard, inline skates, basketball or cigar/pipe and nice book to relax. The best movie for me is Machete with Danny Trejo. Buraak is a big fan of horror movies in general and is collecting records. He is also quite enthusiastic gardener. Kaspy is total maniac to whatever is connected with music... Bushes...preferences could change over the years... :D
... and party is over!
Thanx for support, space in your zine and see you under the stage!!!
