Mortlach - Crucified In A Pickle Jar

Mortlach was new to me, and I guess for most grinders this name is new too. So like always I open my beer and started to dig… after spending a half an hour I found out that the band is from Canada (Québec). And that “Crucified In A Pickle Jar” is a pretty dirty debut for them, also I have a suspicion that this release was recorded in someone’s basement (haha, and that is truly nice). Also this cassette is supplied with very amusing and funny artwork. I guess the person who drew it was so stoned, hahaha. But, let’s end it and let's finally put our tape into the tape deck. This thing is really raw but I like that… everything starts with slow sludgy riffs and tempos (really good idea for the opening song). And logically next is an explosion of blasting muddy grindcore. The whole album has different tempos, here a lot of blasting noises, but you will also hear many slower parts with “tupa tupa” style beats. Despite that dirty sound, all instruments are pretty audible, guitar riffs, ugly roars and hysterical screams. Most of the material has nice crushing power and speed. But to be honest this work is not too brilliant but this stuff sounds good. Mortlach tried hard and they make a good tape. Rating: 7.5/10 Mortlach bc Mortlach fb
