Wounded Pig - A Permanent Mark

And hello again sunny Australia! I know that I have already written a lot of reviews and took a bunch of interviews with the local gangs, but hell, I keep coming upon more and more Australian bands, haha! I've already talked about the teens who played grindcore, and told about the ancient dead bands, now it is time to take a look at a trio of guys and their rhythm matrix and tempo project named Wounded Pig. Honestly, I did not get their music right away; I had to listen to the album three times in order to understand what is what. I think the reason is that  the genre itself was so distorted in this album. The cover design of "A Permanent Mark" is a bit confusing. At first I thought it was deathcore ... all those flowers and color palette have nothing to do with really extreme music, in my opinion)))

I know that the guys consider themselves a grindcore band, but there is not so much of it really. The basis here is the different kinds of metal, and then go crust, grindcore, and more. But it's not that bad, for example black metal pieces add a nice atmosphere (take for example the song Career Suicide). This “style” mess was good, but I liked the crust pieces the most anyway; they really rock. Of course, there are boring spots as well, especially when thrashing guitar riffs and two bass drums are in play, and when guys are trying to rock it out using something similar to deathcore too, it sounds a bit too much (like the song Whores, for example). After listening to this album, I’ve noticed a slight resemblance between Wounded Pig and their homies Fuck I'm Dead (these two gangs have some similarities). Also, these guys surprised me with their  Black Army Jacket cover, I did not expect such a choice :)
